Context and Background
The NSPCC’s vision is that together, we can stop child abuse and neglect. Through the collective power of our staff, volunteers, supporters, partners, and over 100 years of experience we will move closer to achieving that vision. We launched our ten-year strategy in 2021, which is centred around three impact goals. This is the difference we want to make by 2031:
1. Everyone plays their part to prevent child abuse: we’ll work together to make it easier for everyone to play their part and create a social safety net that prevents child abuse and neglect.
2. Every child is safe online: together, we’ll transform the online world, so it’s safe for every child to go online.
3. Children feel safe, listened to, and supported: more children will be able to speak out, so they feel safe, listened to, and understood – and abuse doesn’t shape their future.
The Policy and Public Affairs (PAPA) team is part of the Strategy and Knowledge Directorate at the NSPCC. The Directorate exists to help shape the world around us – and what the NSPCC does – so that it reflects what we have learned and can help keep children safe from abuse.

We develop and hold the NSPCC’s positions on key public policy issues and harness these to influence policy makers and external stakeholders across the UK. They will be responsible for line managing two policy and public affairs team members and supporting them to develop robust policy and regulatory analysis.
The successful candidate will have a good understanding of online harms or related public policy areas and in-depth knowledge of regulatory structures and processes from experience of working in regulated sectors or for a regulator.

Join the friendly Carers’ Hub team and make a vital difference to the lives of unpaid carers in Lambeth.
We are looking for two Hospital Carers' Leads to join our new service supporting unpaid carers while the person they look after is in hospital or is discharged from hospital. We know that this can be a worrying and stressful time and that too often carers do not know where to turn to for information and support. Help us make sure that carers get the help and support they need, at this critical time.
You will play a pivotal role in developing and delivering a brand new offer for carers which seeks to increase the identification of carers within local hospitals, improve carer support during their cared for hospital stay and following their discharge from hospital.
Each Carer Lead will be based at Kings' College Hospital (Denmark Hill) or St Thomas Hospital, and will be responsible for:
-
Offering tailored short-term 1 to 1 support to unpaid carers, working together to develop and implement plans to help improve carers’ experiences during the hospital stay, prepare for discharge and to address carers’ own needs.
-
Supporting unpaid carers while the person they care for is in hospital via signposting to relevant support and information about their rights.
-
Working collaboratively with partners within the hospital, to raise awareness of carers and increase identification.
If you are a passionate individual looking for a fast paced, rewarding role that will make a real difference to carers, we would love to hear from you.
About us
Carers’ Hub plays a vital role in Lambeth, supporting the many unpaid carers across the borough. Our work stems from the fact that carers often go about their roles despite the toll it might take on their own wellbeing, often having to make sacrifices that hamper their own ability to lead a normal life. Whether financial, educational or otherwise, we seek to limit the challenges that carers face. We achieve this through four core workstreams:
-
raising awareness of carers,
-
influencing local policy through community engagement activities,
-
improving carer wellbeing and
-
connecting carers to each other and to support and training opportunities through our services.
We welcome requests for informal chats to find out more about us as an organisation and the role. For more details, including how to get in touch, please see the Application Pack.
Closing date: Wednesday 17th April 2024 at 9 am.
Interviews: Please note we are actively interviewing for this role, and may close applications early.
The client requests no contact from agencies or media sales.

We are recruiting a volunteer officer to coordinate our volunteer-run projects and activities, currently delivered by 60+ committed volunteers. Managed by Praxis support coordinator, the candidate will work with services and function leads to identify and develop volunteer roles responding to the organisation's and service users' needs, with a particular emphasis on volunteer opportunities for people with lived experience of migration.
Praxis is a dynamic, award-winning human rights charity supporting migrants in crisis or at risk, ensuring that their essential human needs are met and they can overcome their barriers. We have more than 35 years of experience working with migrant communities, and in 2019 we supported around 2,000 people through expert legal advice, housing and peer support. Our holistic approach supports people away from a point of crisis and destitution towards safety, economic independence, social engagement and greater emotional wellbeing.
At Praxis, we work to build community, challenge exclusion and discrimination, influence policy and improve services. We played a leading role in exposing the Windrush scandal and advocate and campaign for lasting changes to policy and practice to address the root causes of the issues faced by at-risk migrants.
