We are searching for our next Executive Director to lead Philanthropy and Alumni Relations at King’s College London, an internationally renowned university delivering exceptional education and world-leading research to over 40,000 students (including more than 19,000 postgraduates) from some 150 countries.
As one of England’s oldest universities, based in the heart of London, philanthropy has been a critical element in King’s success to date, raising £68 million in philanthropic income for King’s and its Health partners last year, and will continue to play a fundamental role in delivering our strategic ambitions.
The King’s Fundraising and Supporter Development Team (F&SD), as it has been traditionally called, brings together fundraising activity across the following areas: major and principal gifts; trusts & foundations; legacies; corporate engagement and annual giving. We also focus on engaging with King’s College London’s worldwide alumni community. Our work is underpinned and enhanced by a range of dedicated professionals in areas such as donor relations, project development, events, communications, prospect research, finance, data, supporter services, governance, and general administration.
This is an exceptional opportunity to build on our many successes to date as we look towards our 200th Anniversary in 2029. We are searching for someone with a demonstrable track record in fundraising, with the drive and passion to lead a values-driven team with a commitment to building a supportive culture. The candidate will be proactive, and results oriented with experience of developing purposeful and effective relationships with prospective benefactors and connectors. Reporting to the Vice Chancellor & President, and as a senior leader in the University, you will be expected to build relationships with academics across our nine academic faculties to support colleagues in identifying and developing projects for philanthropic support. Our ambitions

To help realise our ambition, we are looking for a Director of Fundraising and Communications to join our senior leadership team and support the charity in achieving our goals.
The role
This crucial role will help to strategically grow and develop our income and awareness. As part of the Senior Management Team, you will report directly to the charity’s CEO, have key Trustee relationships with the Chair and Fundraising lead Trustee, and build collaborative relationships with the senior staff and clinicians across St George’s University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
You will build and lead the fundraising and communications team, both strategically and operationally, whilst managing them through a period of change. You will drive and deliver fundraising and marketing strategies, identify key areas to accelerate growth across a diversified range of income streams, and drive greater brand awareness.
This role will be required in the office a minimum of two days a week, with flexibility to engage with key stakeholders in the hospital according to their availability.
The person
We are seeking an experienced senior fundraiser to develop and grow sustainable, long-term support across all income streams, but with particular attention to the high-value portfolio.
With proven experience of successfully developing and implementing ambitious fundraising and communications strategies, you will be an exceptional relationship builder, capable of building and nurturing strong and productive relationships, both internally and externally. We are also looking for an inspiring leader who will empower and support their team through a period of change, as well as the wider organisation to deliver our ambitious growth targets.

We’re looking for someone who can support our talented team of 40 people, by making sure the organisation runs smoothly and being a ‘go-to’ person.
You will join our small Operations team who manage our finances, governance and people operations. We oversee policies, processes and systems so that it is easy and enjoyable for people to do their best work. That means making sure everyone has what they need to do their jobs. You will manage queries, provide basic IT and financial support, support recruitment and make sure people have a good experience whether they are starting or leaving us. You’ll keep the office running smoothly and make sure we have up to date documentation.

Manage incoming internal and external queries via post, the admin and team email addresses, the operations Slack channel, main phone line and any operational queries (via Freshdesk)

Manage any necessary purchasing to ensure the team have what they need to work effectively

Support the Fundraising team with correspondence to donors and mail campaigns

Provide basic IT support to the team by monitoring the IT Support Slack channel, ordering equipment, providing instructions for how to use Google Workspace, Trello and Slack, and equipment such as laptops and cameras used in hybrid meetings

Support the Senior Operations Manager with bookkeeping to enable the SOM / accountants to produce timely and accurate management accounts

Support the People Operations Manager with recruitment by posting job adverts on our website and third party channels, managing communication with candidates and setting up new team members with everything they need to get started at Full Fact

Manage the tasks involved with people leaving the organisation.

Support the Senior Operations Manager with coordination and minute taking of Board, Committee and Management Team meetings

Ensure a well run office by managing supplies and liaising with the facilities team (e.g. delivery of water bottles, ensuring facilities are working, setting up the office for team events)

Keep registers up to date (e.g. fixed assets, abuse register, software register)

Support the team with travel arrangements

Support the People Operations Manager with coordinating training and development initiatives

The interview panel will be Charlotte Ross (Senior Operations Manager), Laura Dewis (COO) and Sophie Hale (People Operations Manager).
The process starts off with an anonymised covering letter and CV. This will be read by at least two people to produce a shortlist for interview.
The first round interviews will be a phone (not video) interview, lasting no more than half an hour, at a time that’s convenient for you. We will record it so at least two people can review each interview to decide who we invite back for the second round. The recordings will be deleted at the end of the process.
The second round will include a structured interview and a timed task which assumes no prior knowledge. The task can be completed prior to the interview, at a time that most suits you.
The interview will be with the full panel by video and last no more than an hour. We’ll tell you everything you need to know to prepare, including anything we’d recommend reading in advance
