You will be supporting the Finance Team for CIPD and a key player tasked with producing accurate financial data to enable effective decision-making across the business.
What you’ll be doing
- Using accounting system to process and manage financial transactions related to CIPD UK and CIPD Enterprises and potentially other entities within the group. Posting transactions and month end journals in NetSuite including prepayments, accruals and revenue deferrals.
- Day to day accounting activities include managing transactions in the ledger, ensuring coding is accurate and adjusting miscoding before the month end to minimise time it takes to close the month.
- Working with others in the finance team and in teams across the business to ensure month end reporting is accurate, on time and all appropriate journals are supported.
- Completing revenue reconciliations between Netsuite and other source systems to ensure deferred and accrued income is accurate. Working with the systems accountant and financial accountant where necessary to complete this.
- Reconciliation of the Purchase Order System and goods receiving. Working with areas around the business to ensure accurate transaction recording.
- Production of the management accounts.
- Preparing supporting documentation for the year-end audit and liaising with external auditors.
- Providing support to Finance Business Partners within operational finance and operational queries from wider commercial business.
- Supporting Finance Business Partners in the budgeting and forecasting process.
What you’ll need to be successful
- Accounting experience in a similar role, with a focus on ERPs such as Oracle (NetSuite), SAP, Microsoft
- Part-qualified accountant preferred (ACCA, CIMA, ACA or equivalent)
- Advanced knowledge of Excel (sumifs, pivot tables, vlookups) and experience of working with accounts systems
- Demonstrate integrity, a strong work ethic and a sense of urgency in executing and completing tasks

Main Areas of Responsibility
Your responsibilities will include:
- The preparation of monthly management accounts for the Federation head office departments
- Preparing and monitoring head office budgets, ensuring no overspends
- Providing financial advice to budget holders preparing funding bids and business cases
- Head Office accounting, including month end reviews
- Meeting regularly with budget holders to assist in their budget management and stay up to date with activities

What We are Looking For

Main duties and responsibilities:
·Lead on parts of the financial systems e.g. fixed assets, the sales ledger, grant income reconciliations

We are looking for a Financial Accountant to join our busy London (hybrid) based Finance team on a Fixed Term Contract until 31st December 2024.
In this role you be the Financial Accountant responsible for Poppyscotland. Reporting to our Head of Financial Accounts, and working closely with the Head of Finance of Poppyscotland, you will be ensuring that all daily and month end processes are carried out on a timely and accurate basis for Poppyscotland - part of the RBL charity group and who provide life-changing support to the Armed Forces community in Scotland.

Some key responsibilities will include:

· Assisting with, and eventually preparing, the quarterly VAT returns for Poppyscotland
· Dealing with finance related queries from Poppyscotland, RBL Finance and auditors as required
You may have focussed all or part of your career on being a Financial Accountant and are likely to have worked in an organisation of similar size, scale, and complexity. You may also have audited charities in an accounting practice environment and are now looking to move industry.

Below is a list of some of the most essential criteria we are looking for, please be advised a professional accounting qualification is highly desirable but not essential, providing you are qualified by experience.
- Producing comprehensive accounts from beginning to end for a similar or larger size organisation (e.g. Staff number 150+; multiple revenue streams/business activities with turnover £25 million +) (essential).
- Proven track record of preparing consolidated budgets, monthly consolidated accounts, year-end statutory accounts, mid-year forecasts and cash forecasts (essential).
- Highly numerate with advanced Excel skills (essential, will be tested).
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a relevant accounting or finance role.
- Previous experience in audit, particularly within the charity sector, is highly desirable. Familiarity with audit procedures, documentation, and best practices
- Understanding of the unique financial challenges and regulatory framework of the charity sector. Knowledge of FRS102 and SORP.
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
- Deadline-oriented with the ability to manage multiple priorities.

The Senior Accountant (Financial Control) post can be based in either the London or Manchester office. This role is in the central Financial Accounting and Control Team (FACT). In addition to being DCMS’ financial accounting Centre of Excellence, the team leads in the production of the consolidated accounts of the DCMS Group (with 34 of its 42 Arms Length Bodies directly consolidated) and manages the National Lottery Distribution Fund. The team is the hub for all financial operational and control functions including treasury management, VAT, purchase to pay support and manages the relationship with DCMS’ shared services provider. The DCMS Finance team is relatively small and this provides opportunities for development not always found in a bigger department.
Key responsibilities of the Senior Accountant (Financial Control) will include:
- Management and delivery of robust financial policies, controls, processes and systems.
- Management of the core department’s key finance system (Integra) and the relationship with the department’s shared service provider.
- Overseeing the payment process for suppliers via Purchase to Pay (P2P), including prompt payment monitoring and reporting.
- Lead on the preparation of the DCMS core accounts.
- Leading the audit of the Core Department and ensuring all necessary documentation is available to the National Audit Office.
- Provision of sound technical advice on complex accounting, taxation and budgeting issues to a wide range of stakeholders.
- Ensuring that the Department’s financial systems, cash management and cash forecasting regimes run securely, smoothly and efficiently.
- Key influencer in the Matrix cross-departmental cluster to drive decision making for the new Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system which DCMS will be an early adopter of.
- Leadership and line management (including recruitment, development and training) of 3 direct staff and task management/close collaboration with 2 other staff members within the wider team.
The successful Senior Accountant (Financial Control) will have:
- Qualified financial accountant (CCAB, CIMA or equivalent) with demonstrable post qualifying experience in a large finance team
- Experience of preparing (or auditing) accounts in conformity with relevant accounting standards
- Experience of managing or using financial systems and advanced knowledge of Excel
- Be an excellent communicator, able to explain complex ideas both verbally and written
- Proven ability to work as part of a team delivering at pace in a fast-moving environment
- External audit background (desirable)
- Knowledge and experience of the FReM, Consolidated Budgeting Guidance (CBG), Managing Public Money and HM Treasury’s supply estimates manual (desirable)
