FOUR PAWS is an international animal welfare organisation with headquarters in Vienna, Austria, and offices in 14 other countries including London. Founded by Heli Dungler in 1988, the organisation strives to help animals in need with sustainable campaigns and projects. FOUR PAWS focuses on animals that are directly under human influence, for example stray dogs and stray cats, farm animals, companions animals and wild animals kept in inappropriate conditions. 

FOUR PAWS is searching for a positive thinking personality with great affinity to animal welfare as soon as possible:

This role would suit an SAE/AM from an agency background or someone working in house in a PR role with a strong social/digital slant. 

Reporting to and working closely with the Head of Comms in London, your role will focus on building their social/digital presence in the UK and internationally.

FOUR PAWS aims to be the global animal welfare organisation that encourages and activates people to raise their digital voice to support animal welfare. This role will be fundamental in achieving this within the UK. With over 85,000 digital supporters in the UK and growing, FOUR PAWS wants to continue to engage, inform and educate its internal, external and stakeholder audiences. The state-of-the-art digital environment encourages and activates people to support FOUR PAWS online and donate money to projects and campaigns, increasing influence, impact and income.

This fantastic role supports the UK Head of Communications by building FOUR PAWS profile across traditional media and digital platforms to deliver a wide range of integrated digital communications. The role will involve close working with the Digital Communications team based in Vienna and both national and International Fundraising teams as required. There will also be scope within the role to have a part in the development and subsequent implementation of international campaigns.

In addition to the development of the online communities will be the provision of support to FOUR PAWS’ wild, farm and companion animal departments, helping to create public awareness in order to reach predetermined campaign goals.

Primary / general responsibilities:

• Supporting the Head of Communications to deliver the department’s UK strategy on and offline

• Monitoring FOUR PAWS’ social media activity and managing the brand identity as directed by the Head of Communications

• Trend spotting within the animal welfare and digital sectors

• Acting as a brand guardian across all forms of content generated from the UK office

• Engaging with and development of relationships with audiences online in keeping with the digital style guide and processes

• Assisting with the community management of the organisation’s social media channels

• Conducting in-depth research to support communications, projects and initiatives

• Contributing in creative and strategic planning and development of communications plans

• Assisting in the preparation of meetings and attending them on behalf of FOUR PAWS

• Monitoring relevant international and national animal welfare topics and sharing with key internal stakeholders as relevant

• Dealing with press office enquiries and liaising with journalists to secure media coverage

• Participating in the development and distribution of press releases

• Assisting in administration of day-to-day communications activities and projects, including media monitoring, evaluation and reporting into International Communications HQ

• Regular updating and maintaining of the UK website

• Responding to internal and external media enquiries

• The job may involve some out-of-hours work, but this will be managed with the Head of Communications

Experience needed:

• Ability to demonstrate proven experience working in a communications role within a similar organisation – minimum of three years’ experience is preferred. You could be working within an agency on PR/social/digital campaigns across consumer, charity or issues based campaigns with a strong interest in animal welfare or in house in a PR/digital/social role

• Written and oral fluency in English, second language is beneficial but not essential

• Ability to work unsupervised within a small busy team

• Proven ability to plan, prioritise and meet deadlines

• Excellent writing and presentation skills for a variety of audiences; including supporters, journalists, social media followers

• Ability to demonstrate high levels of creativity and openness to new ideas

• Strong understanding of social media and digital technology and the role it plays in modern communications

• Strong working knowledge of the UK media

• Good IT skills including Microsoft Office, Google Analytics, CRM databases, website and communications software

• Awareness of, and an interest in, animal welfare and the charity sector

• Educated to degree level or equivalent
