The role
Our Communications and Marketing Officers support all areas of Family Fund’s communications and marketing department. In this role, you will use your creative flair to help deliver strategic communications and marketing plans. And you’ll craft compelling and engaging targeted content to support cross-channel campaigns.
Working closely with colleagues and partners, you’ll be promoting the grants and services we deliver and helping generate vital income so we can be there for even more families.

- Working with the Communications and Marketing Manager to create, implement and evaluate communications and marketing strategies and campaigns, across all areas of Family Fund’s work.
- Creating vibrant content that’s really focused on our target audiences This could be news stories, press releases, blogs, campaign copy, or email newsletters, website pages, social media posts.
- Helping secure positive media coverage for Family Fund and our work
- Supporting wide-ranging internal teams with communications and marketing advice and guidance, and targeted plans to help them achieve their goals
- Giving an editorial steer- editing and proof-reading so all our external content is in line with our brand guidelines.
- Staying up-to-date with the latest communications and digital marketing trends and putting these into practice in your role.
About you
You’ll be someone who is driven by our purpose, and excited about achieving impactful communications and marketing outcomes. You’ll need strong verbal and written communication skills as well as experience of copywriting, editing and proof-reading.
Also, you’ll need solid digital marketing skills, including creating engaging social media posts, across channels.
Finally, you’ll need to be confident in using Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.

Role Summary
This position provides key support for the policy and research functions of the charity, in addition to collaborating on campaigns and public affairs work. You will be responsible for carrying out primary research relevant to the charity’s policy and research functions. You’ll be monitoring and collating new policy and research materials and contributing to public communications including report-writing, blog posts and social media activity. You’ll be providing input into strategic planning regarding policy and research activities. You’ll connect with researchers and policy people from other charities and from universities. Key Tasks and Responsibilities
Policy

Support the P&RM, DR&PA and CEO in responding to public consultations, advising policymakers and working with national policy and research bodies as appropriate.

Represent the charity in meetings with policy partners where appropriate.

Attend policy and research conferences on behalf of the charity, providing feedback to the team on key learning and opportunities that arise.

Work with the SC&PA and DR&PA to draw up influencing strategies to target key stakeholders on policy priorities.

Monitor external research that helps our policy work and opportunities for collaboration.

Work with the SC&PA to engage campaigners in our policy work.
Research

Work with the P&RM to carry out research activities relevant to the policy and research functions of the charity; including collating and analysing data, and co-authoring reports for both internal and public purposes.

Work with the P&RM and the Communications and Marketing teams to produce engaging and accessible communication of research findings for a range of audiences.

Monitor and collate new policy and research materials, including research reports, policy documents and media activity. Work with the P&RM to produce internal reports where appropriate and to ensure the charity’s activities reflect and respond to the wider policy and research environment.

Work with the P&RM on external research projects funded by the charity, including support with assessing the quality of bids by external researchers.
Across both areas

Produce social media communications where relevant to policy and research. Work with colleagues across the Research and Public Affairs and Communications and Marketing teams to develop strategies for maximising impact, especially in digital communications.

Contribute to strategic planning by contributing to staff meetings, producing supporting materials and providing feedback on public affairs.

Young Start distributes money from dormant accounts on behalf of the Scottish Government to projects that are run for and by young people aged eight to 25. Since 2012, it has distributed over £60 million to thousands of projects across Scotland.
You will be part of the Communications and Engagement team responsible for telling the story of our Young Start funding in Scotland to a variety of audiences.
You will also provide communications support and advice to a recently established Young Start development team tasked with ensuring that children and young people are better engaged with and centred in the work of the Young Start funding programme.
Responsibilities include:
•Leading on all regular announcements of Young Start funding to the media and stakeholders

You will play a key role in helping to bring the TAWS brand proposition to life, telling our story in compelling and engaging ways to a range of audiences. You will be able to think creatively and see the bigger picture, as well as be comfortable delivering key tasks such as producing a newsletter and social media content. You will be responsible for communications about our key projects, and priorities, taking complex and varied information and translating it into content that promotes the work of TAWS and its impact to diverse audiences.
We are working to a hybrid model across the organisation and value in-person contact. This role will require regular weekly working at our head office in Birmingham or other designated offices / locations across the city and travel and work from other locations outside of Birmingham as part of our national work.
Main duties
- Write and edit high quality engaging copy for sharing across internal and external marketing communications channels and in support of the strategic vision, mission and values of TAWS.
- Build organisational profile with key strategic audiences online on social media, the website, digital channels and through content creation.
- Support the development and execution of communications and marketing strategies, tactics and deliverables, in line with the brand proposition; develop and implement quarterly communications plans.
- Working with HR, lead and implement internal communications projects and plans including delivering a monthly internal newsletter and updating the intranet.
- Develop and deliver communications campaigns for positive social change.

We are looking for a Marketing & Communications Manager to develop and manage the marketing and communications function and team at Barnwood Trust. This includes Barnwood Trust’s websites, social media channels and print media, as well as responsibility for marketing and logistics planning for public-facing workshops and events.
Expertise in communications, including delivering high standards of accessibility, implementing organisation-wide communications and marketing strategies, and line management experience are welcomed for this role.

Contract terms:

This role is permanent, and we welcome applications from people looking for full time hours (37.5hrs per week).

We offer a flexible start between 8am and 9.30am Monday to Friday.

Salary £42,639 p/a FTE

This position is based in our office in central Cheltenham with occasional opportunities for home working.
Summary of key duties:
Management of Barnwood’s external communications channels
-
To engage with a wide range of external audiences, including Barnwood Circle members, potential project partners and participants in our convening and learning activities.

To manage communications and marketing strategic plans, and their delivery for Barnwood Trust.
-
To coordinate printed and digital products, in a range of accessible formats and in line with the Trust’s vision.
-
To develop, lead and ensure the implementation of our social media strategy to positively reflect the Trust’s culture and values.

To lead the delivery of the Trust’s external events.
Line management of x3 direct reports:
-
Provide line management to the function team, managing resources and maximising the skills and capabilities of team members.

Enact the Trust’s management processes and ensuring that access requirements are supported.

Hold regular management reviews with direct reports, providing open and honest feedback on performance, setting personal development goals and plans.
Knowledge and experience:

Line managing a small team.
-
Creating dissemination plans and marketing materials for a wide range of audiences and channels, including print media, digital media and face to face engagement.

Planning and delivering public events.

Delivering communications to high standards of accessibility.

Project planning tools and techniques.
-
Independently managing complex projects with a diverse range of stakeholders.

Supporting the implementation of organisation-wide communications and marketing strategies.

Data management, adhering to legal information governance requirements and internal policies.
