About us

Who we are

At Future Woodlands Scotland, we work alongside landowners, communities and partners to bring trees and woodlands back to life, for the benefit people, nature and the climate.

Restoring Scotland’s woodlands means thinking long-term, from the youngest trees in local nurseries to the protection of ancient forests. By investing in people and partnerships, we’re making sure trees, woodlands and communities can thrive together.

Our vision is a Scotland where trees and native woodlands are thriving for our wildlife, communities and climate.

Our mission is to protect, create and restore woodlands. We do this by building skills, sharing knowledge, and transforming urban and rural landscapes through meaningful partnerships.

Our priorities

Our work is guided by five strategic priorities. Each one reflects where we can have the greatest long-term impact for Scotland’s trees, landscapes and communities:

  • Restoring threatened woodlands
  • Planting more trees in towns and cities
  • Developing woodland skills
  • Expanding knowledge and awareness
  • Championing resilient forestry

Our culture and values

We are unified by one vision and one set of values for the way we work: Curiosity, Respect, Collaboration, Professionalism.

  • Be Curious. We ask questions, are interested and continue learning, whether this is for ourselves, with others in mind or being part of a wider world view.
  • Be Respectful. We have regard for environmental and social beliefs, understanding that the range of views of others, no matter their age, status or background, are as important as our own.
  • Work Collaboratively. We create dynamic joint working that recognises, applies and adapts around different processes, working relationships, opinions and skillsets.
  • Be Professional. We ensure that our standards of work, dedication, attitude and communication reflect positively on our organisation.

Equality, diversity and inclusion policy

We are committed to promoting equal opportunities in employment and creating a workplace culture in which diversity and inclusion is valued and everyone is treated with dignity and respect. As part of our zero-tolerance approach to discrimination in any form, you and any job applicants will receive equal treatment regardless of age, disability, gender reassignment, marital or civil partner status, pregnancy or maternity, race, colour, nationality, ethnic or national origin, religion or belief, sex or sexual orientation (Protected Characteristics). We are also committed to providing equitable treatment to all those we deal with as an organisation, including customers and suppliers.
