Who we are

The Global Campaign for Education (GCE) is a not-for-profit organisation which works to achieve education for all. Operating in over 100 countries, GCE's mission is to hold governments and the international community accountable for delivery the right of everyone to a free quality public education. Since our formation, 40 million more children have been able to go to school, and a financing mechanism (Education Fast Track Initiative) has been established to help meet the education goals. Yet the fact remains that quality education for all is still far from reality, and close to a billion people right now are being denied their right to an education that would change their lives. In 2010 our 1GOAL campaign seized the opportunity to garner mass public interest in education by working with FIFA during the 2010 Football World Cup. With the world’s eyes on Africa, there was no better way to draw attention to the fact that millions of the continent’s children are denied an education. 1GOAL became football’s largest ever campaign amassing support from over 200 stars including Pele and Cristiano Ronaldo, 70 high profile clubs and organisations including Manchester United, Inter Milan, Barcelona, Players Unions, Football Associations and ambassadors such as Queen Rania of Jordan, Shakira, Desmond Tutu and Mick Jagger. It mobilised over 18 million people to sign up as supporters and helped to gain almost $4 billion more towards education by 2015, enabling 4 million more children to go to primary school.
