Rang De (www.rangde.org) is a non-profit social enterprise which allows individuals to make social investments (from Rs 100 /~ £1 onwards ; all of which goes to the borrower) to the underprivileged poor across India through a model utilizing crowdfunding, peer-peer lending and microcredit. Rang De has facilitated ~£3 million of social investments (94% of which have been made to women) with repayment rates of 99.7% so far (As the loans are being repaid one can re-lend the same money to another borrower as well). The typical loan size is between ~ £50- £150 with interest rates repaid by the borrower of 4.5-10% p.a. flat. The interest rate is split between the social investor, Rang De and the field partner through which Rang De operate. These loans are used for livelihood purposes (ragpicking, cow-rearing etc) and also for education loans (primary/secondary) as well.
Rang De also works with Indian government through NABARD and been recognized by Ashoka, World Bank Development Marketplace, Millennium Alliance ; within the UK Chapter (as with other chapters across the globe) we work on a number of items to build Rang De awareness and we are working on a number of ways to build that (working with corporates, universities, parliamentarians, community etc).
