Who we are

We are a small, inclusive team, united in our commitment to improving long-term outcomes for children in India and South Africa.

Starting out as a broad, generalist funder under the guiding hand of colleagues at Stewart Investors, Maitri aimed to give back to the communities they were active in around the globe.  Over the years we have refined our strategic focus to improving primary education in just two countries.  By dedicating our full resources in this way, we aim to achieve maximum impact on outcomes for children across India and South Africa.

With children at the heart of our work, we approach our grantmaking with learner-level impact in mind. Everything we do is underpinned by our guiding principles and our vision, mission and theory of change. These form the foundation of our 2023-28 strategy, which aims to ensure every child in India and South Africa completes primary school able to read, write and calculate.

Providing flexible funding to a broad spectrum of transformative solutions, we focus on outcomes at learner, school and system levels, encouraging creativity, innovation and collaboration to catalyse change for children.
