About us

Who we are

The Stuart Low Trust was founded in 1999 and (‘SLT’) is a Registered Charity (No. 1102325). Stuart Low was 27 years old when he tragically took his own life.  His family and Islington residents founded The Stuart Low Trust in his memory because they believed the Stuart could not find the right help at the right time.

SLT aims to support local adults in Islington and surrounding area, especially those most at risk and vulnerable, who are isolated, in despair and in poverty.  One in four of us will experience a mental health problem at some point in our lives and the stigma around mental illness means people feel alone, ashamed and judged.  We exist to counter this downward spiral.

We achieve this through providing award-winning, free, socially therapeutic activities at ‘out of hours’ times when isolated people are at their lowest ebb and there are few – if any – suitable alternatives for them locally. They build their confidence, skills, self-esteem and sense of wellbeing and community, in a supportive, welcoming, non-judgemental environment.

We run three programmes Arts, Nature and Wellbeing supporting 1,000 participants per annum through over 200 activities all run in collaboration with specialist community partners in the local area. Our expected attendance at most sessions is 10 participants, except for our flagship Friday evening events running throughout the year where 50 people has been the average attendance. Over 20 volunteers support the delivery of our activities fulfilling a range of important roles.
