About us
Who we are
TransActual are working towards a world where trans people can live safely, in dignity and with access to the healthcare that we need. We’re a national, trans led and run non-profit organisation focussed specifically on working for trans adults in the UK. Our work is broad ranging, but we have a particular focus on healthcare and trans people’s legal protections. We also seek to raise trans people’s voices and raise awareness of trans people’s lived experiences.
We are working to improve:
1. Trans and non-binary people’s experiences of healthcare
2. Legal recognition & protections for trans and non-binary people
3. Media representation of trans and non-binary people and are working for an end to press transphobia
Our culture and values
At TransActual we are committed to:
+ Improving the UK (and the world) for all trans people - this includes non-binary people, people from the Global Majority, disabled and/or neurodivergent people, D/deaf people, and people of all ages.
+ Ongoing community engagement - making sure we're doing the work that our communities want us to
+ Working in an authentically intersectional way
+ Being actively anti-racist
+ Challenging ableism and being as accessible as we can be in all that we do
We believe in:
+ Speaking out on the things that matter
+ Openness and honesty
+ Treating people fairly and with respect
+ The power of collaborative working
+ The importance of bringing community voice into all that we do
Equality, diversity and inclusion policy
People are important to TransActual - it is why we exist. We lead by example and treat our team in the way we'd expect others to treat their staff.
TransActual is a trans led organisation, and most of our staff and volunteers are trans. A third of our staff and directors are from the Global Majority (ie Black and brown people, people who have experience of racism, people from non-white backgrounds), half are neurodivergent and half are disabled.
At TransActual, we are committed to ensuring our work is anti-racist and that an intersectional approach is embedded in all that we do. We make sure that people from the Global Majority, people of all genders (and non), and disabled people are actively involved in planning our work and making decisions.
Accessibility is important to us and we're committed to being an accessible workplace, whether this relates to yours disability/ies, chronic illness or neurodivergence.
