We’re looking for someone with experience of both campaigning, including an understanding of the basic tools and techniques used in campaigning, and of working with volunteers and services users, including how best to support them to achieve their campaigning goals.
About the role
You’ll lead and coordinate our local campaigning work across Wales. Your work will help the charity improve the lives of people in local communities affected by Parkinson’s. You’ll listen to the needs of our local communities and work with volunteers and colleagues in the wider Wales team to do focussed campaigning and advocacy work.
Through co-production you’ll ensure that the voices of people with Parkinson’s, their families and carers are heard by decision makers.
What you’ll do:

Support the development and delivery of campaigns activity for Wales and proactively identify opportunities for public-facing campaigns.

Recruit and manage a sustainable community of campaign volunteers.

Use our national campaign priorities to deliver related local campaign activity.

Organise and deliver training events for people with lived experience who wish to engage as well as campaign volunteers.

Create content for public facing elements of campaigns, including supporter actions, web pages, newsletter and social media.

We’re looking for someone with excellent bilingual communication skills (Welsh and English) with great news sense, demonstrated through utilising bilingual media outlets in Wales, and a sound knowledge of Wales and UK media.
About the role
You’ll co-develop and implement an inclusive bilingual media and communications programme across traditional, digital and social media and maximise our messaging and campaigning impact in Wales through powerful communications.
You’ll build a sustainable team of proactive volunteers affected by Parkinson’s to energise our communications through their personal stories and participation in communications work.
What you’ll do:

Manage, monitor and report on the bilingual web pages and Facebook page for Wales

Maximise coverage for campaigns and fundraising communications in Wales, and produce creative content, including video

Research and ‘sell’ stories to maximise coverage, involving people affected by Parkinson’s

Conduct media and social media training for staff and volunteers and produce media briefings to support interviews

Parkinson’s UK – Head of Major Gifts
Location: London Victoria, SW1V, hybrid working (minimum of two days per week in person working). Occasional travel will also be required.
Salary: £65k - £70k, depending on experience.

Parkinson’s UK is seeking an exceptional and experienced, innovative leader to shape their high value strategy to deliver significant growth in income and the charity’s established high value fundraising.
Parkinson's UK is there for everyone affected by Parkinson's. By funding the right research into the most promising treatments, they are moving closer to a cure every day and are the largest European charitable funder of Parkinson's research.
This role will support and inspire an ambitious and high performing team to build propositions, proposals and pipelines in order to unlock opportunities to engage the charity’s supporters and untap networks across the charity, securing vital funds to underpin their strategic programmes and ambitions for people with Parkinson’s. The post-holder will inspire supporters to give their biggest donation and ensure that the organisation is giving its supporters the best experience possible, delivering an annual income target of £6m+. The role will also play a pivotal part in driving a new multi-year, multi-million pound charity appeal.
Maximising the value and contribution of supporters is fundamental to Parkinson’s UK; building networks, understanding what motivates their supporters, and aligning programmes to their charitable interests is key to the charity’s growth plans for Major Gifts. This role will be critical to leading the philanthropy, trust and statutory, special events and prospect research and insights teams (approximately 18 people) and working with colleagues and leaders across the charity to identify prospects and opportunities to give at a transformational level. The post will also be an active member of the Fundraising Leadership Team.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in major gifts fundraising and a proven track record of securing large gifts. They will also have experience of managing a large annual income target and driving continued growth and ensuring targets are met. They will have the ability to lead, motivate and inspire multiple teams to coordinate projects and exceed fundraising targets. Strong presentation skills and budgetary skills will be combined with the ability to build positive and high-value relationships across a range of sectors, individuals, organisations and committees. Finally, they will be solutions focused with the ability to work well under pressure.

So we urgently need new treatments, more support for people living with the condition and more funds to find a cure. In the last 50 years, we’ve invested more than £100 million in cutting-edge research to uncover the causes of Parkinson’s. We believe we’re close to finding a solution. But not close enough. You’ll be at the heart of our annual iconic campaign to maximise the positive impact from World Parkinson’s Day, in April every year, to ensure the delivery in the most efficient, impactful and relevant manner to both our core audiences and throughout the charity.
You will communicate with and coordinate colleagues across multiple teams in the charity and in the Parkinson’s Community in the shared purpose of inspiring the Parkinson’s community to support the campaign and engage with our charity. It will involve high profile brand awareness activity, digital, social media as well as local community involvement and fundraising initiatives to further establish the charity as the ‘go to’ for people with Parkinson’s, those who support them and our supporters.
You’ll bring skills gained in campaign and project management and support the evaluation of the previous campaign to inform development of new activity, help colleagues and supporters understand its impact and embedding key insights / learning.
This is a fixed term contract for a duration of 7 months
What you’ll do:

Operationally plan and project manage the WPD campaign, leading on preparatory work and building systems and processes to ensure its success.

Prepare project plan and help align activity with existing BAU and other strategic campaigns in the External Relations Directorate and the Studio

Work with the Campaign Strategy Lead to define wider KPIs to measure the campaign’s success, identify opportunities and manage risks.

Build knowledge of and commitment to the campaign with key teams and with the senior leadership team and trustees. Provide feedback to colleagues, communicating project learning and celebrating successes

About the role
You’ll bring expert knowledge of Parkinson’s pathophysiology, pharmacology and therapeutics development to all our VB activities. These include primarily the sourcing and evaluation of new project proposals, and then the funding and management of the most promising ones. You will liaise extensively with the Parkinson’s community and external partners, and maintain up to date knowledge in the field.
With your years of preclinical disease-area expertise you will work alongside your colleagues with backgrounds in medicinal chemistry and biological aspects of drug discovery, clinical research and biotech finance.

Provide expert knowledge of Parkinson’s pathophysiology, in vitro and in vivo models of aspects of Parkinson’s and neurodegeneration, to all our activities.

Solicit external proposals for new projects and develop internal project proposals, and bring new initiatives and working practices to the Virtual Biotech, as appropriate

Critically review the target validation and preclinical pharmacology aspects of internal and external project proposals

About the role
You’ll apply expert knowledge of drug discovery principles and practices to guide the deployment of over £25m in funding through the Parkinson’s Virtual Biotech programme. As part of the Virtual Biotech team you will evaluate new project proposals, manage our interactions with funded projects, and liaise with external partners and the Parkinson’s community, whilst maintaining professional knowledge and networks.
You’ll lead on our funding and oversight of some of our projects and support others; including developing robust project plans with the sponsor, featuring efficient use of external resource providers (e.g. for medicinal chemistry, compound synthesis, computational chemistry, crystallography, ADME/physchem profiling, IP handling).
What you’ll do:

Provide expert management and leadership for the charity’s ongoing preclinical projects to ensure studies are delivered on time and on budget, and participate in joint steering committees and other advisory meetings, providing expert scientific and strategic insight

Bring new initiatives and working practices to the Virtual Biotech, as appropriate, contribute to the design and evaluation of novel compounds, and identify and evaluate candidate service providers for project work packages

Extensive drug discovery experience with at least 5 years spent in pharma or biotech environments, and a doctoral degree in a relevant discipline (Ph.D., M.D., D.Phil.)
