Job Summary:

We are seeking a passionate and experienced Charity Fundraiser to join our dedicated team in Malton, North Yorkshire. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing fundraising strategies to support the goals of our mental health charity. This is an exciting opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of those affected by mental health issues.

Key Responsibilities:

• Promote awareness of our objectives and our work to relieve suffering and distress
• Research and identify potential funding sources and grant opportunities
• Prepare grant proposals and manage grant reporting requirements
• Develop and implement fundraising strategies to meet or exceed fundraising targets
• Cultivate and maintain relationships with donors, sponsors, and supporters
• Recruit and lead a team of fundraising volunteers
• Plan and execute fundraising events, campaigns, and initiatives
• Collaborate with colleagues e.g. Comms Assistant to create fundraising initiatives
• Provide excellent customer service to donors, sponsors, and supporters

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in communications, business, public relations, or related field
• Certification, diploma, or similar qualification in fundraising
• Proven experience in fundraising (minimum of three-years), preferably within the mental health charity sector
• Strong knowledge of fundraising principles, techniques, and best practices
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including having confidence in public speaking, and paying good attention to detail
• Ability to lead and motivate volunteers
• Ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders
• Strong organisational and project management skills

About Community Counselling:

The charity was established in 2013.  It provides free therapeutic interventions such as counselling, play and creative art therapy, and EMDR (trauma) treatment to vulnerable people living in North Yorkshire, including children who have been the victim of crime. The clinical team consists of over 30 part-time practitioners, being a mixture of staff, volunteers (including trainees) and sessional workers.  Last year we helped over 800 people with a wide range of mental health issues.

The role is essential to delivering the charities income targets for Trusts and Foundations and developing long term relationships. In addition, the post holder will support the Head of Income Generation with approaching, reporting, and maintaining Trust and Foundation relationships for major appeals.

he Fundraising Officer will work as part of the Fundraising team and focus on delivering income targets from trusts and foundations. The role is responsible for growing LDCT’s trust and foundation income by increasing the amount and longevity of funding from current supporters, as well as building a portfolio of new trusts and foundations through research, maintaining a pipeline of prospects, updating the Funding Matrix and making successful applications. Building good relationships with new funders including regular reporting, as well as good stewardship of existing funders, is an important part of the role.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

1. Delivering on fundraising priorities and targets for trusts and foundations income, including our current and future major appeals.
2. Researching, identifying, and prioritising appropriate trusts and foundations to maintain and convert a pipeline of new, prospective trusts and foundations.
3. Working with colleagues across the organisation to help shape projects for funding and creating strong Cases for Support to ensure effective applications.
4. Writing and submitting high quality targeted funding applications.
5. Maintaining an effective stewardship programme for trusts and foundations including appropriate accurate records, ensuring the fundraising e-Tapestry database is kept up-todate and that fundraising income is processed efficiently with timely thank you letters and acknowledgements.
6. Managing relationships with existing and new funders to encourage maximum funding, multi-year funding awards and repeat funding.
7. Monitoring outcomes, updating the Funding Matrix and producing timely reports and information as required externally by funders and internally for Management reporting.
8. Promoting the support of funders through press releases and social media posts.
9. Adhering to standards of fundraising best practise as set out in the Institute of Fundraising’s Code of Practise and ensuring all activities comply with relevant Data Protection obligations and any other legislation

The Role:

This role will cover a wider area of executive support including governance, meeting management, senior leadership team support, managing on-line gatherings, travel management, diary management, correspondence management and relationship management.

The post-holder will be key in supporting the WWP in this, and also, with both WWP and CEO, in mapping out the key events and activities over a 6 year cycle, so that there is a clear structure for the new WWP (and ultimately successor to CEO ) to come into and work with. They will also assist the CEO in “standard agenda planning” for the board, for example, the induction of the new Board in early 2025.

Whilst the role is for 3 days per week, ideally this would be flexible, with the individual working more days at certain times (for example during the Board week) and less at quieter times.

MU is a small team, (about 25) and there is an expectation that all will show flexibility in helping out on areas not explicit in their role descriptions, when time and their expertise and ongoing workload allow

The ideal candidate should be proficient in handling the Microsoft suite, zoom, familiarity with handling databases and finance systems. They should be confident in taking minutes in board meetings, experienced in acting as a project manager, able to use a project tool to facilitate planning of schedules for SLT, Board and committees throughout the year, and possess excellent relationship skills, confident to liaise with board members and provincial presidents from around the Globe.

Work Location

This role will be based at our Head Office in central London. Mothers’ Union operates a hybrid working model. Staff are required to work an aggregate minimum of 90 days per calendar year (pro rata for part timers) at our Head Office, Mary Sumner House in central London. Tuesdays are our anchor days where every staff member is expected to be at the office. The 90 days includes anchor Tuesdays.

Organisational Background

The Council for At-Risk Academics is a UK-registered charity founded in 1933 under the leadership of William Beveridge, to rescue academics suffering persecution under the rise of Nazism and facilitate their continued work in safety. Sixteen Cara Fellows from the 1930s and 1940s became Nobel Laureates, and many more innovators in their fields, including, Nikolaus Pevsner, Lise Meitner and Karl Popper. A number of Cara’s founders and Council members also personally provided places and/or funds to help individual academics; and Cara, known in the 1930s as the AAC, later the SPSL, was closely involved in the successful effort in 1933 to bring to London the Warburg Institute art library, which had been prohibited by the Nazis, and six of its staff. The Fellowship Programme is the continuation of the rescue mission operation started in 1933.

Cara has been a lifeline to academics at risk for just over 90 years, as and when world events have placed them in the line of fire: Hungarian Uprising, Cold War, Apartheid South Africa, Iran, Latin American Juntas, Vietnam, Kosovo, DRC, Rwanda, Sudan, Zimbabwe etc. and, more recently Iraq, Turkey, Yemen, Palestine, Syria, Afghanistan and Ukraine. Cara support is typically framed as temporary sanctuary offered at times of heightened risk.

Part-time Fellowship Programme Assistant Role & Responsibilities

· Produce a weekly list of payments.

The Fundraising Co-Ordinator will raise the profile and awareness of Young Bristol and working with the Head of Fundraising develop a fundraising work plan to qualify and develop a range of key funding streams. The BNSSG Mental Health Alliance is a network of over 20 Voluntary, Community and 
Social Enterprise (VCSE) organisations based across the Bristol, North Somerset and South 
Glos (BNSSG) regions, working collaboratively to deliver a range of psychological 
interventions for our communities. Commissioned by the Integrated Care Board (ICB) to 
work alongside the statutory sector, our aim is to offer holistic and inclusive support for 
people experiencing a range of challenges to their mental health including depression, 
anxiety, trauma, eating disorders, perinatal mental health. As part of this, the VCSE Mental 
Health Alliance recently received funding from the ICB to undertake a review of 
psychological therapies within BNSSG, seeking to better align the VCSE and statutory 
services in keeping with the new Community Mental Health Framework. 
We are now seeking to recruit two part-time Project Coordinators to help us develop this 
project over the next 10 months.

About the Project
There is a lack of accessible psychological therapy provision across Bristol, North Somerset, 
and South Gloucestershire (BNSSG) leading to gaps in service, some people not accessing 
services or waiting a long time to be seen. This is particularly true for people who have 
‘complex’ trauma presentations, experience multiple barriers to accessing services and/ or
require evidenced based and trauma informed interventions to address their needs.
Much of the therapy that people access in Primary Care outside of NHS Talking Therapies 
and Secondary Care, is provided in the Voluntary Community and Social Enterprise (VCSE)
sector, by specialist charitable organisations. This therapy is unevenly distributed across the 
six localities in BNSSG.

Womankind completed Phase 1 with a comprehensive report on VCSE talking therapies 
provision, (January 2024). 
Bristol Mind and Womankind are members of the VCSE Mental Health Alliance and are 
leading on Phase 2 of the project.

Job purpose and responsibilities
To reach and represent our diverse membership, we are recruiting two part-time Project 
Coordinator posts who will work collaboratively to plan and deliver activities. Project 
Coordinators will be managed separately by our organisations. 
The Project Coordinator(s) will be responsible for the successful delivery of Phase 2 of the 
project and will work in collaboration with key stakeholders to support the re-design of a new, 
integrated model of care that will optimise psychological therapies provision for the people of 
BNSSG. 

Role Description
1. To work in collaboration with key stakeholders.
2. To collate referral and signposting data between statutory & VCSE Psychological 
Therapies services, tracking service-user journeys and gaps in provision.
3. To undertake targeted ‘deep dive’ consultations with evidence-based VCSE 
Psychological Therapies providers (121 and group), drawing out information on 
numbers/ sessions, waiting lists/times, geography, presenting issues, equity-based 
offers, service and clinical outcomes.
4. To work closely with Lived Experience groups to identify key system blocks and 
solutions relating to referral pathways, waiting times, choice/ flexibility, co-design and 
service-user voice.
5. To support the design of a new integrated model, working closely with the VCSE MH 
Alliance and wider Evidence-Based Practice Steering Group in order to agree key 
elements.
6. To support the design and delivery of a ‘test & learn’ approach to piloting the model, 
working closely with lived experience volunteers and an external research consultant.
7. To contribute to a final report designed to recommend best practice, promote interagency training, and support joined-up mental health provision across BNSSG.

Job Description

The Permanent Part Time (0.6) Head of Finance is a core member of the organisation's structure and is a strategic partner to the Director of Operations on all areas of finance. Responsibilities will include:

 

Run the accounting functions

• Manage payment runs and other banking.
• Manage payroll, pension and staff benefits as required.
• Administer investments and banking.
• Cashflow Management.
• Finance app management inc. Xero, ApprovalMax

Management accounts and planning

• Produce management accounts.
• Analyse trends and variances, and other analysis as required.
• Model company finances including budgets and 3-year business plan.

Compliance

• Manage VAT, corporation tax, and tax planning.
• Generate and review accounting and compliance policies.
• Work with auditors throughout the year as required.
• Implement and manage spending and authorisation controls.

The Successful Applicant

• Fully Qualified Accountant (CIMA, ACCA, ACA, ICAEW etc)
• 5+ years PQE
• Can demonstrate working independently and as finance lead with board responsibilities. (Experience in a SME preferable)
• May suit fractional or part-time (3 days/week). Flexible working possible.

• Experience of working within one or more of the following areas:  volunteer management, counselling and psychotherapy, mental health, sexual violence, domestic abuse, health and social care, young people, refugees, trafficked women.

Reporting to the Finance and Pensions Manager, this plays a pivotal role in developing and continuously revising the CTO’s budgets, financial rules, and regulations. The post holder will control all areas of expenditure and on the revenue side, the Accounting Officer will ensure all receivables are accounted for, actualised, and appropriately posted. The Accounting Officer will ensure the accounting software package is optimised and will be expected to prudently manage the CTO’s cash flow and investment activities. The incumbent will work closely with the IT Administrator to develop and/or revise the accounting system that will be used by the CTO.

We are looking for a detail-oriented accounting professional with significant experience in a similar capacity in an organisation with a comparable scope and complexity. You will have strong finance and accountancy experience, as well as solid analytical skills and excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Specialised knowledge of Pension Fund Management would be desirable, but not essential.
