The Director of Philanthropy is a key leadership role within the Marketing, Fundraising and Engagement directorate at the British Heart Foundation (BHF). Accountable for the leadership of the philanthropy team, the role will develop and implement strategies to exponentially grow our income and support from high-net-worth individuals and trusts. Our ambition is to more than double philanthropic income over the next five years.

Working arrangements
This is a blended role, where your work will be dual located between your home and our London office.
At the BHF we believe in the power of being together, so our colleagues on blended contracts can expect to spend some time in their office, at least two days each week, on average. About you
We are looking for a creative and motivational leader to nurture, challenge and inspire our philanthropy team to reach ambitious fundraising goals. You will need demonstrable experience of building long-term relationships with high-net-worth constituents as well as a strong track record of securing complex, multi-stakeholder gifts at the 6- and 7-figure level. Experience of working with trustees and/or volunteer committees to drive philanthropic income will also be important.
The ideal candidate will also possess confident communications skills, a high degree of emotional intelligence, a strong sense of integrity, intellectual curiosity and the presence and gravitas to operate at the highest levels both internally and externally.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead and develop the strategy to build philanthropic giving at EHAAT in consultation with the CEO, Executive Team, Trustees and Development Board, to support the charity’s objectives and long term aims.
- Deliver a fundraising plan across the Philanthropy & Partnerships team, including major giving, legacies, trusts and foundations and corporate partnerships, to achieve agreed strategic objectives.
- Provide excellent executive support and guidance to the Development Board and the Chair, and take a leading role in building the Board further by identifying and recruiting to its membership and the wider pool of Ambassadors.

Key Responsibilities
Philanthropy Events
- Work closely with team members to organise and manage the logistics for our major and mid-level donor event programme, comprising around 4-5 events a year, including the Rooftop Summer Drinks Party and November Private Dinner.
- Event management will include liaising with venue managers and suppliers both in the run up and during the event
- Work with the Philanthropy Executive to project manage on cross-income stream events, including sponsored challenge events such as the Impetus Triathlon, and Christmas Celebration Drinks.
Events Communication
- Support the Philanthropy team in putting together relevant event-related comms to all donors as required
- Manage systems and processes for fundraising events and actively look to improve and develop these alongside the Philanthropy Executive

Research

The Cystic Fibrosis Trust is a UK-based charity that aims to improve the lives of people with cystic fibrosis and their families. Cystic fibrosis is a genetic condition that affects the lungs and digestive system, affecting over 10,800 people in the UK. One in 25 of us carries the faulty gene that causes it, usually without knowing.
The Trust funds research into treatments and a cure for cystic fibrosis, provides support and advice for people with the condition and their families, and campaigns for better healthcare and funding for cystic fibrosis services. Previous experience in grant making is not essential. We will collaborate with you to define the responsibilities of the role, taking an iterative and reflective approach and we’ll keep reviewing and improving it together.

About the Role
The Chief Executive Officer will have as their overarching purpose the realisation of the mission of the charity; to provide disadvantaged young people with the guidance, networks and opportunities they need to realise their potential at school and achieve post-16 qualifications that build towards secure, fulfilling employment.

About the opportunity
'The Leeds' does things differently. They're a pioneering organisation when it comes to environmental sustainability (aiming to be the world's first carbon neutral piano competition by 2024) and proactively working towards greater gender equality for women.
