Community Action Suffolk has an exciting new vacancy to support the Chief Executive drive forward its vision and services.
We are looking to recruit a strategic leader as the Chief Operating Officer.
As part of the Executive Team this role will provide strategic leadership across the charity and subsidiary companies operations.

About you

About us
The Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) brings together 15 leading UK aid charities to raise funds quickly and efficiently at times of humanitarian crisis overseas. This role will require you to lead on organic social media as part of the DEC Communications team, working closely with the Digital and Innovation team in Fundraising, collaborate with social leads across our 15 member charities and public figures through our talent agency. During appeal launch periods it will also involve managing a small social media team of volunteers.
All roles at the DEC are based in our London office. We operate a hybrid working model, with some non-negotiable office attendance. We are looking for 2 organised and dedicated Project Workers who have a strong empathy with single homeless people, to coordinate our intensive housing management services across our South London boroughs.
You will be joining a small , friendly registered charity and registered provider with a supportive team.
Job purpose
The Project Worker will be responsible for the delivery of a responsive intensive housing management service to clients allocated by the Team Leader.
The central aim of the role is to support homeless clients temporarily living in CLHT placements to become as independent as possible and to facilitate timely move-on into independent living settings.
This will be achieved through regular client-led keywork sessions and in close collaboration with external partners.
The Project Worker will coordinate the day-to-day smooth running of each house they are responsible for.
Duties and responsibilities specific to the role
Intensive Housing Management
- Responsible for a broad range of housing management activities, including signing up new residents, issuing licensing agreements, delivering new client inductions, occupancy management and eviction / abandonment.
- Evictions are a last resort and CLHT works within the Homeless Link guidance on preventing evictions and abandonment.
- Work collaboratively with the Finance team to coordinate rent/ service charge collections
- Carry out regular occupancy checks.
- Maintain accurate and timely records related to housing management activities, within the requirements of GDPR.
- Maintain a healthy and safe environment and encourage clients to take individual responsibility for their living environment and for positive relationships with fellow residents.
- Ensure the accommodation where clients live is clean and maintained to a high standard, in line with CLHT property standards.
- Ensure the accommodation meets all legal and statutory health and fire safety requirements
- Work in close collaboration with the Maintenance team to ensure all repairs and maintenance issues are correctly reported and resolved.
- To promote and encourage client participation in the Intensive Housing Management process and to act as advocate for clients when necessary.
- This includes leading regular house meetings and encouraging clients to become ‘resident representatives’.
- To document each visit to projects, detailing tasks undertaken, any changes that have occurred and other relevant information.
- Manage antisocial behaviour and clients complaints in line with our Anti-Social Behaviour and Complaints procedures.
- Liaise with senior managers to ensure complaints are addressed in a timely manner.
Health and Safety
- Adhere to best practice in meeting the requirements of health and safety legislation in all aspects of the organisation’s work.

- Develop client engagement techniques, being creative in your approach to encourage client participation in the keyworking, support planning and risk assessment process.
- Always ensure that clients are provided with the full range of information required to make informed decisions which encourages freedom and empowerment.
- Signpost and refer to external statutory and voluntary sector partners where necessary
- Develop and maintain positive working relationships with all key partners, escalating any concerns about partner agency engagement to your line manager.
- Maintain up-to-date, GDPR-compliant records on CLHT IT systems, including clients signed copies of all keyworking, support planning and risk assessment documents.

The Finance Officer together with the Treasurer and local finance coordinators will undertake tasks including:-
- Develop systems and enable finance tasks to be completed more effectively and efficient
- Manage Parish Finances using the software package ‘My Fund Accounting Online’ (training will be given) a web-based fund accounting software specifically designed for churches and charities
- Implement financial decisions made by the Trustees
- Place orders, make payments and produce invoices and run payroll.
The Finance Officer will join our Support Services staff team in a pivotal role working with finance volunteers and overseeing day-to-day management of parish accounts and payroll.
- 22.5hrs per week (we are willing to consider beteen 18-25 hours per week, some home working and flexible hours).

Role Purpose
ShelterBox has changed a lot in the last five years, and the humanitarian sector is also evolving as we do, with a much stronger focus on partnerships with local organisations on the front lines of aid delivery. Yet we still send staff and volunteers on visits to programme sites, often taking calculated risks to oversee how we can learn and improve humanitarian operations. Our people are led by strong values of service and dedication, without which we could not serve communities after disaster. We are now seeking to put stronger systems in place to ensure we are getting the best from our staff and volunteers, and that we as an employer are giving them the best possible experience as members of this international organisation.
ShelterBox is searching for an experienced senior people leader with a proven ability to lead through ambiguity and transformation, with a track record of embedding high-performance cultures and navigating complex change in mission-driven environments. The successful candidate will provide leadership to our excellent people team and help to develop and deliver an engaging and effective new organisational people strategy, which must reflect the complexity of a globally distributed organisation, ensuring cultural intelligence, equity, and inclusion are embedded across all people practices. The Director of People and Culture will also work closely with our 13 affiliate offices to ensure alignment in our strategic direction on people management.
This isn't just about being a Director of People and Culture who has oversight of all aspects of the people function. This role is also about delivering visible and compassionate leadership as part of our Executive Team, consistently upholding and embodying our values of participation, learning, integrity and flexibility. The successful candidate will bring an assured presence with the ability to make decisions and influence at all levels, including Board and international affiliates. They will be a trusted advisor to the CEO and the Executive Team and be a visible, values-driven leader across the organisation.
You will be helping to build a new purpose-driven people strategy, embedding core values and our organisational mission. You will lead the team in driving our Employer Value Proposition: how we hire, train, develop and retain our people to meet the long-term aims and ambitions of the organisation. There will be a particular focus on training our future leaders and current managers in best practices, as well as establishing accountability for measuring performance and rewarding success.
You will oversee all aspects of the organisation's HR, learning and development, EDI, and well-being functions and a significant proportion of our volunteering support. You will be responsible for leading a function which works collaboratively with other teams to meet the organisation's overall people needs, and which recognises the critical importance of ShelterBox's staff and volunteers in delivering the organisation's ambitious plans.
Reporting directly to the Chief Executive, this role also reports to the Board of Trustees on a quarterly basis on all People matters. This role is also the Executive Team Lead on the Board's People and Risk Committee.
The Director of People and Culture is also a member of ShelterBox's Executive Team. This is our most senior management team, with overall responsibility for leading, planning and managing the work and development of the organisation. As a team, they are responsible for the delivery of 2025 plans as well as the implementation and development of longer-term strategy, and for ensuring that the wider organisational strategy delivers for the people we support.

Duties will include but not be limited to:
- Together with the CEO, Executive Team and People Team, develop and embed a long-term people strategy to achieve ShelterBox's overall strategic aims. - Strategically lead the people function, driving operational effectiveness, and ensuring staff and volunteer voices are represented across all levels of the organisation, including at Executive level.

This role also includes coaching a team and coordinating fixtures within our post-16 provision.
Your Main Responsibilities:
- Deliver weekly lectures using USW online content and support students with assessments.
- Monitor student progress and provide supportive interventions when needed.
- Develop and manage work placements and coach education sessions.
- Lead student recruitment and build strong relationships with local colleges and schools.
- Create clear progression pathways from BTEC to degree level.
