Job description

Why work for us?

Being CARE International UK’s Media Officer is a critical post in a small but effective Communications and Brand team. The purpose of the job is to ensure people in the UK are hearing about the global realities of poverty, emergencies, gender inequality and climate change, as well as about the ways that CARE and our community of supporters are urgently working to address these.

You will secure regular, timely and high-quality media coverage in UK-based national and regional print, broadcast and digital media within an overarching press strategy integrated into a wider communications, brand and advocacy programme of work putting CARE’s global mission at the heart of all we do.

You will be passionate about the UK’s news agenda, ready to respond quickly and strategically to match our expert UK and locally based spokespeople from across the world to media/social media opportunities that arise.

The coverage you secure will not only raise brand awareness of CARE and our work, but it will increase fundraising income and contribute to policy changes which have a real beneficial impact in communities around the world.

About you

Collaborative, proactive and persuasive, you will share CARE’s values including those of diversity and inclusion.  

Your ability to understand complex information quickly and simplify it is combined with strong, creative writing skills.

You will bring good experience of delivering quality media coverage and successfully pitching news and features ideas across multiple platforms.    

About the role

You will be the first point of contact for journalists and media for reactive and proactive press opportunities, monitoring and reporting on coverage against our targets. 

Building relationships with key internal colleagues and in collaboration with other members of the communications team, you will identify inspiring and important news stories and features ideas.

You will ensure that all media material is targeted at CIUK’s priority audiences and delivers agreed key messages, especially those related to women and girls, and is consistent with our organisational and brand messaging.
