Centre for London is London’s independent think tank, and a registered charity. As Research Director, you will lead Centre for London’s research team, developing new solutions to London’s critical challenges, securing funding for our work, preparing, publishing and promoting reports, supporting public events, and communicating our work to stakeholders and policymakers.
As a member of the senior leadership team, you will help develop and implement the organisational strategy; contribute to the development, fundraising and delivery of events and other projects; and promote the ideas of the organisation to build its influence in existing and new public and private arenas.
The recommendations of your team will make a difference to policy and practice – tackling issues such as housing, poverty and inequality, employment and skills, transport and the public realm, the climate and nature crises, community resilience, and London’s place in the UK and the world. You will be line– managed by the CEO and work closely with the External Affairs and Development teams.
This role would best suit someone with significant experience leading policy research programmes – in a think tank, consultancy, central or local government, academia or similar. You will have a strong understanding of policy in London and the UK, project management skills, and be able to credibly communicate complex ideas to different audiences – in meetings, in writing, through blogs and articles, and in speeches. You will have strong analytical skills, including a track record of qualitative and quantitative research. We are committed to reducing unconscious bias in our selection processes. Staff who shortlist applications will not see applicants’ personal information (including your name and responses to our diversity monitoring questions). For this reason, please create an application ID code (your initials, followed by two random numbers) and use that on your CV and cover letter instead of your name.
If you would like to speak with someone about this opportunity, please check our website for contact details to email Johnathan Tuck (Operations Manager).

Introduction to the role
In a world of generative AI and political spin, it’s hard to know what’s true and what’s not. Bad information, whether used deliberately or accidentally, ruins lives. It promotes hate, damages people’s health, and hurts democracy.
Full Fact is a team of independent fact checkers and campaigners who find, expose and counter the harm of bad information. We build world-leading technology to identify and counter misinformation, and we lead the fight for honesty and accuracy in public debate.
This is a brilliant opportunity for a highly motivated and experienced professional to take on the crucial role of Interim Head of Communications, covering 9-12 months of maternity leave, in the run up to the next UK general election and the advent of a new parliament. It’s never been more important to ensure that facts matter, and your role will be to put Full Fact at the heart of the debate, to create external impact, and help us campaign for change.
You will be comfortable working to deadlines within a fast-paced news environment, and will have an in-depth knowledge of UK politics and media. You will also understand all our audiences and the most effective ways to communicate with them, and lead a team of social media, press and digital marketing experts to enhance the Full Fact brand, as well as our aims and objectives.
2024 is a pivotal year for Full Fact. We will fact check the general election, reaching millions with impartial, independent information at a critical time, and raising our profile and impact. With a new CEO having joined last year, we are also creating a new three year strategy and investing in new areas of work that combat the harms of misinformation to our lives and communities.
You will be a key member of our senior management team and will work closely with teams across the organisation and our high-profile, experienced board to shape organisational ambition and effective external communication. We are experimental and collaborative, with a strong commitment to learning and development.
If you are interested in applying but not sure you have all the skills, please do apply. We are open both to supporting learning on the job and to rearranging tasks within the team to suit the skillsets of the best applicant.

We also want to make sure that we use your time well during this process and don’t ask for more from you than we need to. We will make any reasonable adjustments we need to make to this process to help ensure you can perform at your best. For more information about this before applying, please contact us.
The interview panel will be Chris Morris, CEO and two members of our management team.

The first round interviews will be a phone (not video) interview, lasting no more than half an hour, at a time that’s convenient for you. NHS Providers is the membership organisation for the NHS hospital, mental health, community, and ambulance services that treat patients and service users in the NHS. We help those NHS foundation trusts and trusts to deliver high-quality, patient-focused care by enabling them to learn from each other, acting as their public voice and helping shape the system in which they operate.
NHS Providers has all trusts in England in voluntary membership, collectively accounting for £115bn of annual expenditure and employing 1.4 million people.
We are recruiting for a policy advisor to join our busy, supportive and high performing team. The current focus of this role is to analyse and influence the national policy agenda on NHS funding levels, financial performance, payments systems and contracting. This portfolio is one of the most high profile and reactive areas of work in our organisation and carries with it the opportunity to develop and lead projects, working closely with directors of NHS trusts and foundation trusts, and with the senior management of NHS Providers, including working closely with our media and public affairs teams.
The postholder will also support our policy work on other priority areas, such as ‘operational performance’ by which we mean access standards, progress against national targets, planning and prioritisation.
The NHS is in a significant period of reform, due to the legislative change establishing integrated care systems (ICSs) as statutory organisations in 2022. It is also in a uniquely challenging period due to ongoing operational and financial pressures, rising demand, workforce challenges, and the need to recover care backlogs. The reform agenda and operational context both mean trusts need to find new ways to work in their local systems and deliver for patients.
This role is an exciting opportunity to support trust leaders as they respond to this challenging and changing environment. This role will require the postholder to be flexible, adapt to a rapidly changing external landscape, responsively manage parts of a wide-ranging portfolio, and contribute to media, public affairs and board development work. The focus of the role may change over time, dependent on the needs of our members.
We actively support equality of opportunity for all our staff and welcome applications from individuals regardless of age, any disability, sex, gender reassignment, sexual orientation, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion, or belief. We particularly encourage applications from those from underrepresented communities.
To apply, please send a CV and cover letter setting out why you are interested in the role and how you meet the person specification to HR Team.
The client requests no contact from agencies or media sales.

About EFA
English for Action provides free, participatory, and empowering English language classes (ESOL) for migrants in London. Our classes are spaces to build community and support students to organise collectively around issues like employment and housing rights. Our work currently supports around 500 adult migrants across London. We’ve become a national centre of good practice for a radical participatory approach to ESOL, informed by the work of Paulo Freire, and we share this approach through trainings, research and partnerships.
Organisation: We are a staff team of 8 people supported by a larger team of volunteers and 9 trustees. EFA promotes shared leadership and collaboration and we aim for our organisational structure to reflect this. In the last 4 years we’ve transitioned away from having a CEO to an executive team to oversee operations and decision-making - which you could be elected to join following your probation period. We’re still in transition and there is scope to make a real contribution to developing innovative practice within our workplace. As a charity, ultimate responsibility for, and control of, the organisation lies with the Board of Trustees.
