Who we are
We’ve been on the frontline of the world’s response to HIV and AIDS for over 25 years, working with marginalised people who are denied HIV prevention and treatment simply because of who they are and where they live.
Set up in 1993 to work with community groups in the countries most affected by the global AIDS epidemic, we’ve continually adapted our approach, looking for innovative ways to break down the barriers that marginalise people living with, or at risk of acquiring, HIV. All with one goal in mind – a future free from AIDS for everyone, everywhere.
Everything we do is rooted in our two key beliefs:
That the lives of all human beings are of equal value.
That everyone has the right to access the HIV information and services they need for a healthy life.
Today, we work with communities in more than 40 countries, taking local, national and global action on HIV, health and human rights.
As a global partnership that is open to everyone, we can only do what we do – and achieve what we want to achieve – by working with partners from grassroots community groups to national governments. Our partners drive change where it matters, shaking up the status quo and making a noise on issues the world often chooses to ignore.
Are you the Candidate we’re looking for?
You are an inspirational leader who inspires genuine enthusiasm and passion in others, by bringing the Global Plan of Action of Frontline AIDS to life through the delivery of high performing programmes and through convening a global partnership of over 60 national and local civil society partners. You act as a role model, creating an environment of openness and trust, and celebrate the successes of others.
You are committed to fostering a high performance culture, and delegate thoughtfully to give colleagues real accountability and authority. You are comfortable leading in a matrix management environment and providing leadership at a time of change and ambiguity.

At Media Trust, we believe it’s by giving everyone a voice that we’ll get to a more equal society. That’s why we’re working with hundreds of charities to strengthen their storytelling, advocacy and campaigning, press engagement and social media. We do this through media, communications and digital skills training delivered in partnership with our media and creative industry partners and by matching media industry volunteers with charities looking for help with content creation and other comms support. At the same time, we are working with hundreds of young people and talent from under-represented communities to give them the skills, access and mentoring to break into the media.
About the Role
Do you want to lead innovative and impactful programmes to strengthen the communications, campaigning, storytelling, media engagement and digital skills of organisations advocating for social justice and systemic change?
We are looking for a dynamic and proactive individual with a track record of successful programme management, who is passionate about communications that drive change.
This position will report to the Head of Programmes and oversee Media Trust's thematic strategic communications programmes that strengthen the voices of charities. Our thematic programmes support cohorts of charities working in the same area, including equalities and social justice (our Stronger Voices programme) and environmental and climate issues (our Communicating Climate programme.)
In the context of rising levels of inequality, the media and policymakers need to hear from the people whose lives are most affected. In this role, you will support user-led organisations campaigning for systemic change to speak truth to power.
Our six-month strategic communications training programmes are designed to support charities and community organisations to amplify their voice, mobilise support and influence meaningful change. These programmes include in-person and virtual training, mentoring and support from industry experts, and tailored digital resources.
This role will directly manage our Stronger Voices programme, ensuring the smooth delivery of the programme, including managing our cohort of equalities organisations; overseeing the budget and timeline; managing our relationships with funders, trainers and partners; and impact evaluation and reporting.
You will also oversee our other thematic programmes (currently Communicating Climate). You will line manage the Project Manager of Communicating Climate and a Project Coordinator.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone committed to social justice, with strong programme management skills, an understanding of strategic communications and a passion for empowering the charity sector through training and mentorship. This is a highly rewarding role which offers opportunities to engage with both the charity sector and the media and creative industries.
*Please note that whilst this is a remote role, Stronger Voices is a London-based programme, so proximity to London will be beneficial for delivering in-person activity for the cohort.
How to apply:
Click the Quick Apply button below. You’ll be asked to submit a CV, equal opportunities form, and a covering letter (max 2 pages) describing how your skills and experience match our requirements. See full Job Description attached.

About World Child Cancer
Most childhood cancers are curable. We know this because survival rates in the UK and Europe regularly top 80%. But for children in low and middle-income countries, the prognosis is bleak with their chance of survival falling to 20%.
The solution? It already exists. The challenge is making sure that every child gets the diagnosis, treatment and care they need. Yet in many countries, public and professional awareness of childhood cancer is dangerously low. Opportunities for early diagnosis are missed. Referrals are delayed. And there are not enough health workers with the specialist skills to diagnose and treat the disease.
It is children and families that pay the price.
Determined to balance this inequality, World Child Cancer works with local, regional, and international partners in some of the world’s poorest countries to improve: Treatment, early diagnosis, family support and advocacy.
Created in 2007, World Child Cancer is a small yet fast-growing, ambitious international charity.

Our mission is to close the reading gap by providing children with one-to-one support at the time they need it most. We work in eleven areas/regions of the UK and will support 3000 children in 2023-24.
Our unique Online Reading Volunteer programme pairs struggling five to seven-year old (KS1) readers with reading support volunteers who are working professionals. The volunteer ask is very focused: readers commit 30 minutes a week to read with a child using a bespoke digital platform for an entire academic year. The results are transformative, boosting children's reading confidence and ability.
From a school perspective, online reading volunteers provide direct, meaningful literacy support for up to 10 pupils per class. The programme is particularly suitable for communities where it might be challenging to find parents and other volunteers who can commit to physically visiting schools to boost reading.
