Job description

Music In Detention takes music-making into immigration detention centres, and takes detainees’ music out again into the community.  We’ve been doing this since 2005 and are the only arts organisation in the UK focused specifically on immigration detention.  MID works with detainees and disadvantaged groups in the community.  We use music-making and other creative activity to help people express themselves, feel better about themselves, build their inner strength and hope for the future.  They create and exchange music and lyrics with each other, and this builds support and understanding.  It’s a powerful experience.  Our participants create extraordinary artistic work, and we are working to bring their creativity into artistic life and their voices to the public.

We are looking for a new Programme & Evaluation Co-ordinator.  The main part of this job is to organise the delivery and evaluation of our programme of activities.  It thus sits at the centre of our work and our small staff team.  The key responsibilities are:

  1. Co-ordinating delivery of MID’s music workshops, performance and other activities in immigration detention centres and communities around the UK.
  2. Co-ordinating the systematic monitoring & evaluation of the activity programme.
  3. Contributing to communications work, including social media activity and event marketing.
  4. Some organisational and financial administration.

The successful candidate will have some experience of organising arts or community activity, and will be very organised, good at communicating and working with others, and in tune with our values.  We’re looking for someone who can work independently, take responsibility and see things through.  It’s not essential to have done it all before, only to be a quick learner.

We are very actively interested in bringing people into the organisation who have all sorts of different backgrounds, and we believe that having a wide range of perspectives and experience will help us do our work better.  So if your life experience helps you relate to what MID is about, then we would especially like to hear from you.

The post will be 22.5 hours per week (0.6 FTE) and the salary will be £22,464 pro rata.

Application is by application form.  The deadline is 1.00pm on Friday 11th October.
