Job description
Programme Manager – Education
London, SW1

About Us

We are the Education Endowment Foundation (EEF), an independent grant-making charity that is committed to ensuring that children from all backgrounds can fulfil their potential and make the most of their talents.

The EEF was set up in 2011 by the Sutton Trust. Together, we are the government-designated What Works Centre for improving education outcomes for school-aged children.

We offer grants to a variety of organisations, such as schools, local authorities and charities, to trial new ways of helping 3 – 18 year olds succeed, whether that’s improving their educational performance, giving them valuable life skills or preparing them for the world of work or further study. Our projects are set up and run as rigorous trials, allowing us to build our understanding of what works in improving outcomes for children and young people.

We are now looking for a Programme Manager to join us and support the development and delivery of these projects. This is an 18 month contract that has the potential to extend.

The Benefits

- Salary of £40,000 per annum
- Support projects that are building a better future for children and young people
- Operate at the heart of the EEF’s work

If you are an analytical project manager with great relationship-building skills, this is a superb opportunity to support projects that are striving to break the link between family income and educational achievement.

The EEF isn’t simply a grant-funder or a research organisation. We are a charity with a moral imperative – to support teachers and leaders to raise attainment and close the disadvantage gap.

You will have the chance to help us combat educational challenges, create new evidence of what works to improve teaching and learning and, ultimately, help children and young people throughout the UK to succeed.

The Role

As a Programme Manager, you will oversee a number of projects to help achieve the EEF’s vision of improving educational outcomes for children and young people.

You will advise our Trustees on which projects to fund, help to design real-world trials and manage relationships with our existing grantees. You will also lead the production of guidance reports and ensure that project scale-up and mobilisation activities are successful.

This role will see you getting involved with every aspect of our work, from setting up and managing initial trials, through to supporting and reporting on the most promising interventions.

About You

To join us as our Programme Manager, you will need:

- A strong track record in successfully delivering projects
- Strong relationship-management skills
- The ability to analyse a project’s prospects of success and anticipate any problems, taking into account the wider research and context it will be operating in
- Excellent communication skills

Ideally, you will have experience or an understanding of the education environment, including different education settings. An understanding of programme evaluation methods would also be beneficial.

Other organisations may call this role Education Programme Manager, Project Manager, Project Delivery Manager, Education Project Manager, or Programme Delivery Manager.
