Job description

Build Our REMIX Family: HR & Volunteering Manager (Volunteer)

Are you an experienced HR or Volunteer Management professional with a passion for building exceptional teams and fostering a supportive, family-like culture? Do you want to create an outstanding volunteering environment that truly values its people and empowers a new charity to thrive?

REMIX is a dynamic new social mobility charity start-up on a mission to "remix young lives" from disadvantaged backgrounds across London. We aim to guide, mentor, and inspire young people through positive role modelling, comprehensive personal development, and vital employability skills. As we launch, our volunteers will be the heart of everything we do. We need your expertise to set up our HR and Volunteering function from scratch, ensuring we attract, nurture, and retain the best talent.

This is an incredible opportunity to apply your people-centric skills to a meaningful social cause, building the framework that will make REMIX an inspiring and rewarding place to volunteer, directly supporting our mission to change young lives.

WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR:

We need a proactive, empathetic, and highly organised individual with a strong background in Human Resources or dedicated Volunteer Management. You'll likely possess:

  • Comprehensive HR Expertise: Proven experience in core HR functions including recruitment, selection, induction, training, and policy development.

  • Volunteer Management Prowess: Demonstrable experience in engaging, motivating, and retaining volunteers, ideally within a charity or community setting.

  • Strong People Skills: Exceptional ability to build rapport, communicate effectively, listen empathetically, and make people feel valued and part of a team.

  • Safeguarding Knowledge: A clear and practical understanding of safeguarding best practices, including robust vetting procedures (e.g., DBS checks) and training, crucial for working with young people.

  • Policy & Compliance: Experience in drafting clear, compliant HR and volunteering policies (e.g., volunteer agreements, code of conduct, expenses, grievance procedures).

  • Organisational & Administrative Skills: Meticulous attention to detail for record-keeping, scheduling, and process documentation.

  • Proactive & Solutions-Oriented: Ability to anticipate needs, identify challenges, and develop effective, people-focused solutions.

  • Passion for Social Change: A genuine commitment to REMIX's mission and empowering young people out of poverty.

YOUR ROLE AS HR & VOLUNTEERING MANAGER:

In this vital set-up phase and initial launch period, you will be instrumental in:

  • Establishing the HR & Volunteering Function: Designing and setting up all foundational systems and processes for our people operations, both for volunteers and future staff.

  • Volunteer Recruitment & Selection: Leading the charge to attract, interview, and select a diverse cohort of passionate volunteers, including our crucial mentors and programme developers.

  • Induction & Training: Developing and delivering engaging induction programmes and ongoing training modules that equip all new volunteers with the skills, knowledge, and confidence they need.

  • Volunteer Engagement & Motivation: Implementing strategies to keep existing volunteers motivated, engaged, and feeling valued as part of the "REMIX family," fostering a positive and collaborative environment.

  • Policy & Procedure Development: Drafting and refining essential policies, including volunteer agreements, safeguarding policies, code of conduct, and grievance procedures.

  • Performance & Support: Establishing systems for ongoing volunteer support, feedback, and recognition, ensuring a nurturing and responsive environment.

  • Compliance: Ensuring all HR and volunteering practices comply with relevant legal requirements and charity sector best practices, particularly around safeguarding and data protection.

WHAT WE OFFER:

  • The incredible opportunity to build the entire people infrastructure of a brand-new charity, directly impacting its culture and success from day one.

  • An unparalleled chance to apply your HR and volunteer management expertise to a profound social cause, seeing your work directly empower individuals and transform lives.

  • High levels of autonomy and responsibility in a dynamic start-up environment.

  • Collaboration with a passionate and strategic Board of Trustees and the founding team.

  • The deep satisfaction of creating a supportive, high-performing environment that genuinely values its contributors and helps "remix young lives."

This is a voluntary role, requiring an estimated commitment for a period of 3-6 months initially, with the potential for longer-term involvement as the charity grows. We are flexible and can work around your availability, including the hours you can support us with.

READY TO BUILD OUR REMIX FAMILY?

If you are a compassionate, strategic, and experienced HR or volunteer management professional eager to make a lasting difference by creating an outstanding environment for those who empower young people, we'd love to hear from you.

Help us build the strong, valued team that will enable REMIX to "remix young lives" across London!
