Sessional Project Worker - Advocacy

£13.65 an hour as per sessional rate.

Location: Home based, but travel is expected to cover Cheshire East and Cheshire West and Chester.

The Children's Society has been helping children and young people in this country for over 140 years. We run local services across the North West that support children when they are at their most vulnerable and in desperate need of help. We're there for children, every step of the way.

This role sits within our Youth Impact domain, which works to provide immediate one-to-one support for children and young people who urgently need advocacy across Cheshire and support for children and young people who go missing in Manchester.

We are currently looking for a skilled practitioner to join our dynamic and ambitious team on a sessional basis. We are seeking a dynamic and proactive individual to join our Digital & QA team as a Digital Project Manager. This role will primarily be responsible for project managing the development of Ygam’s new website from concept to handover in addition to some of Ygam’s other planned digital projects.

I support the work of the Physical Activity and Physical Health team within Rethink Mental Illness. This includes supporting the successful delivery of a Sport England funded project to embed system level change in Tower Hamlets and North East Lincolnshire to reduce barriers to physical activity for people severely affected by mental illness.  

I liaise with internal and external stakeholders to support the smooth running and delivery of project activity. I also support the wider team on physical health and activity related projects.

Salford Family Partnership Hubs are places within local communities across Salford offering services and support for children, young people and families.

Salford is a trailblazer area and will become the national leader for the Family Hubs and Start for Life Programmes, making the quickest improvements to services and sharing learning and best practices with all local authorities in the country.

Salford CVS has been working with Salford City Council’s Early Help Team on the first and second years of the Family Hub work. Our role has been consulting with communities through the Seeds of Change Box and Wishing Tree project, engaging Voluntary, Community & Social Enterprise (VCSE) Sector organisations and volunteers. We also manage a Family Hub small grants scheme providing small grants to VCSE organisations to support them in delivering their services as part of the Family Hub partnership.

We are seeking two dedicated Family Hub Navigators to work across the city of Salford to improve the wellbeing of parents and carers in the following cohorts:

• Young parents
• Fathers
• Families (communities of identity)

The Navigators will work with individuals to explore ‘what matters to them’, consider their strengths and interests, and identify an appropriate activity or service and connect them to it. Why Access Social Care Exists 

Everyday millions of older and disabled people are denied the social care they need. Most local authorities can’t meet the growing demand for care, none are confident they can meet their legal duties in the future. This affects all of us, we will all need social care at some point. 

We all have a right to hold public bodies to account. But most of us cannot afford lawyers so rely on legal aid. The 77% drop in community care legal aid cases since 2010 means we have nowhere to turn. Without access to justice, our rights do not exist. The rule of law is broken. 

What we do 

Access Social Care provides free legal advice and information for people with social care needs, helping achieve a better quality of life. We work with communities to increase knowledge of the law and our rights. We highlight the gap left by cuts to Legal Aid and provide advice for those who can’t afford it. 
With a 98% success rate, our network of lawyers and barristers ensure fair access to justice when things go wrong. We collaborate with social services whilst ensuring legal obligations are met. We are working towards a future where social care is adequately funded, and we all get the support we need. 

About the role 

This is an exciting time to join our organisation. We have a new strategy and are growing quickly including across our senior leadership team. We have nearly tripled in size and income since we started operating in April 2020 and we anticipate that this strong growth will continue for the duration of our next strategic period. 

We are looking for someone with excellent people skills to play a key role in developing and piloting an approach to support people to engage with and use our on-line Social Care early legal help tool. Initially, this project will be focused on how to support carers who have multiple barriers to accessing the support they and the person they care for need.

We want to pilot a network of Peer Navigators who will act as an interface between the tool and people who are most underserved by social care and advice services and experience intersectionality of barriers. The role would particularly suit someone who has experience of the social care system as a family carer or disabled person and/or someone who has experienced barriers to accessing services due to other protected characteristics. 

The role is new and will initially focus on working within our place-based Hubs of Croydon and Gloucestershire. The role will require a creative person who can work in partnership with other members of the team, people with lived experience of social care support and social care organisations.  They will need to develop a set of policies and procedures for the delivery of the project and recruit, train and supervise the Peer Navigators.

To be a success in this role, you should be an excellent team worker, communicator, proactive, flexible, excellent people skills, highly organised and able to meet deadlines. You should also have a thorough understanding of co-production.

Responsibilities 

• With Hubs manager, Hub team members and people with lived experience – refine the aims of the project and identify priorities 

• Develop and implement a project plan for delivery of the project 

• Develop a role description for the Peer Navigators 

• Identify and test different options for advertising and recruiting Peer Navigators 

• Train Peer Navigators in the Care Act and use of the chatbot 

• Develop guidance on how people can seek advice about their employment and benefit status in relation to fulfilling the role 

• Develop and run an appropriate supervision process to ensure good quality support is offered 

• Arrange further training as chatbot develops 

• Set up and run Peer Navigator team meetings to ensure they feel supported, and we learn from their experiences 

• Devise a monitoring and evaluation framework and set up proformas for peer navigators to capture outcomes

akt is the UK’s national LGBTQ Youth Homelessness charity. We provide safe homes, mentoring, and support to ensure that no young person needs to choose between a safe home and being who they are. 24% of young people facing homelessness in the UK identify as LGBT (National Scoping of LGBT Youth Homelessness, akt, 2015) and 78% of LGBTQ+ young people cited an absence of family support (The LGBTQ+ Youth Homelessness Report, akt, 2021). The charity was founded in 1989 and operates service centres in London, Manchester, Newcastle, Bristol and works online through a Digital Service to offer support to young people outside of our four office regions. akt works with over 800 vulnerable young people a year providing both face to face and online assistance.

Job Summary

Please note this is a part time role working 21 hours per week with a pro rata salary of £15,450 per year (£25,750 per year full time equivalent). 

The role will involve the provision of youth engagement activities to a diverse range of LGBTQ+ young people aged 16-25 who are homeless, at risk of homelessness or living in a hostile environment. Our focus is in maintaining our ability to provide the highest service possible, giving our young people the opportunities to access peer support, community engagement and life skills. Overall, we aim to support LGBTQ+ young people into safe accommodation and work or education and prevent them from becoming homeless again in the future.

Key Tasks:

• Work as part of the Youth Engagement team to engage LGBTQ+ youth in a programme of meaningful activities designed to promote wellbeing and support young people to meet their personal goals.
• Ensure young people are meaningfully engaged in the co-creation of akt’s services and projects. 
• With the support of the Youth Engagement Manager develop, manage, and grow akt’s LGBTQ+ youth work programme in Manchester.
• Facilitate group work and peer support sessions and complete risk assessments.
• Support the Trans Pathway group.
• Develop and grow our programme of LGBTQ+ national and regional youth events.
• Work with young people and colleagues to explore the potential for national/regional trans youth events and activities.

The East Midlands Team, who have been rated as Outstanding in their Ofsted inspection in February 2024, have a unique opportunity for either a  Supervising Social Worker who is ready to progress their career to a Senior Supervising Social Worker or a current Senior Social Worker who understands trauma and therapeutic parenting approaches. ​We’re located a short walk from London King’s Cross station in a modern accessible building overlooking Regent’s Canal.

Snow Camp is a ground-breaking national youth charity, and we are looking to recruit a fantastic new North West Wellbeing Manager and Programme Support to join our North West team on a 4 day a week contract (30 hrs).

Our accredited programmes are unique and attractive to young people, taking them from beginner to qualified snowsports instructors in just one year with volunteering and apprenticeship progression routes available at the end. Alongside learning to ski or snowboard, young people also have access to wellbeing support with the emphasis on improving young people’s mental health and wellbeing.

You will report to the North West Programme Manager & Head of Snowsports and will be responsible for the delivery of our wellbeing workshops and providing 1to1 wellbeing support sessions to young people. You will also work as part of the North West team to assist with the planning and delivery of snowsports and life-skills focused youth activities run by the Programme Manager and assist with the apprenticeship programme throughout each year.

Experience of working successfully with under-served young people in a range of settings, with a focus on supporting young people’s wellbeing will be essential to the post. Passion for snowsports and supporting young people generally will be a huge advantage!

Youth work, wellbeing support experience, project management, logistical skills, managing relationships, communication and presentation skills will make up the role. Along with experience of delivering group workshops to help young people work towards meaningful goals to improve their emotional wellbeing.

Job Description

• You will spend roughly 2.5 days will be in the Wellbeing Manager role and 1.5 days will be in the Programme Support role each week.
• In consultation with the Programme Manager, to manage the delivery of the Wellbeing Workshops and 1to1 mentoring support needed for young people and apprentices.
• Work with the programme manager to gain the young people’s trust and confidence.
• To assist with delivery and development of The North West’s full snowsports focused journey of youth programmes which take place at Chill Factore.
• Build a good relationship with the North West Programme Manager to help provide support and guidance to young people.
• Support with the management of (currently) 3 x North West apprentices on their 1-year Snow Camp Apprenticeship programme. particularly helping to manage their wellbeing and signpost to other services where needed.
• Ensuring the apprentices have clear personal development plans and objectives.
• Provide effective and inspiring leadership to apprentices and young people.
• Providing weekly 1to1 support sessions for each apprentice.
• Having an understanding and an involvement in the development of their weekly working rotas.
• Supporting with NVQ work & assisting with any challenges that may be faced.
• Ensuring apprentices are involved and supported working on all Snow Camp programmes as the North West staff team.
• Complete Personal Development Plans and Wellbeing Assessments as required with apprentices.
• Attend regular meetings with the other regional Wellbeing Managers to provide a consistent approach and building resources focused on improving young people’s wellbeing.
• Outside of programme days, provide one-to-one mentoring sessions to young people, in-person or remotely, focusing on their well-being and offering support so they can cope with the Snow Camp programme and improve their general wellbeing.
• Be a key team member on the overseas residential for the Excel programme during the Easter holidays. *Valid passport for travel in Europe & Andorra required.
• Use our UPSHOT online database system to keep records and ensure all monitoring and evaluation is carried out.
• Attend external training as required (e.g. Safeguarding and Mental Health Awareness tutor training courses).
• Ensure that all activities and provision you deliver is done safely and in line with organisational policies.
• Support the Programme Manager to ensure all programmes run smoothly and effectively by supporting the delivery of each programme – managing venue instructors, guest speakers, apprentices, youth staff, sessional staff and volunteers as required.
• Support the Programme Manager with recruiting young people for each programme through visits to youth projects, promotion through email to all relevant youth programmes and services and presenting at key stakeholder meetings on youth service provision. Finding new young people in the North West area to support by Snow-Camp will be key.
• Support the Programme Manager with programme administration including finances, SLAs, attendance records, risk assessments, bookings and young people’s records on Upshot.
• Support with management and delivery of trips and overseas residential’s (Snow-Camp Excel, Apprenticeship & Youth Forum Residential’s) as part of Snow-Camp programmes. Including support with all the necessary risk assessments.
• Additional tasks may vary depending on different opportunities throughout the year.

The North West Wellbeing Manager & Programme Support will report to the North West Programme Manager & Head of Snowsports Morv Bett who will provide support and guidance.

The Trustee board will determine the overall direction of Snow Camp and will set the overall priorities in consultation with the Director and Senior Team.
