About us
Who we are
The British Institute of Radiology (BIR) is a charity and professional society providing support, information, research, guidance and education for front line healthcare professionals, as well as positively influencing policy development. As the membership organisation for everyone working in imaging, radiation oncology and the underlying sciences, its mission is to help improve medicine, health and patient care through the science and practice of imaging and radiation oncology. The BIR is the oldest radiological society in the world, dating back to 1897, just after the invention of the x-ray. Its flagship journal, BJR, dates back to 1896. It's an exciting time for the organisation as it continues to grow and broaden its reach. We are located in modern offices in Farringdon.
