About us

Who we are

Medical Aid Films is a UK-based non-profit that brings together world-class health and medical expertise with creative film makers from around the world, developing innovative media to transform health and wellbeing in low income countries.

Utilising new technologies and innovative media platforms, our mission is to save lives in some of the most under-served areas of the world, by providing high quality education and training content in the field of global health.

Using film and animation, we cut through low levels of literacy, provide clear and engaging content that is medically accurate and culturally appropriate, and provide a cost-effective, sustainable and scalable way to empower health workers and communities with the skills and knowledge they need to save lives.

Our training and educational content covers a diverse range of topics including maternal and child health, new-born care, obstetric emergencies, contact tracing in disease outbreaks, identifying, treating and managing medical conditions, family planning counselling, promoting healthy behaviours, and much more.

We work in collaborative partnerships with a wide range of international NGOs (e.g. UNICEF, UNFPA, Jhpiego, Pathfinder), leading academic institutions (e.g. London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, Massachusetts General Hospital, King’s College London, Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists), private sector companies (e.g. GSK, GE Healthcare), governments (e.g. Nigerian, Zambian, Nepalese Ministries of Health), and many hundreds more grass-roots NGOs around the world.

We have an open source library of 250+ films, in 22 languages, used by over 2,000 partners in 145+ countries worldwide, with over 5 million views online each year.

In 2017 we were the highest scoring organisation in a sector wide BOND Audit for Innovation (BOND is the UK International Development Network), and we were nominated for a Learning on Screen Award -the UK’s only celebration of film and media in education and research.
