About us
Who we are
Disabled people have the greatest levels of inequality in society – financial, social and health outcomes are all poorer for disabled people in comparison with the general population. Society is set up a way that maximises these barriers and perpetuates this inequality, not because society wants to discriminate but because society is built for non-disabled people. However, disabled people also have power through their choices. If properly harnessed, this power can remove barriers. The way that RiDC seeks to reduce inequality is by harnessing the power of disabled people as consumers and using this to influence, not just single consumer transactions, but how businesses, charities and government see and value disabled people. This includes:
- Reducing financial inequality so disabled people don’t have to pay more, just because of their disability.
- Reducing social inequality by making sure that disabled people can access products which enable them to be part of their community.
RiDC has carried out person-centred consumer research for over 55 years, during which time we have established ourselves as the UK's leading experts in research involving disabled consumers. We are specialists in our field, producing expert research to help businesses, charities and government understand the needs and experiences of disabled consumers. Our pan-disability consumer panel provides insights and solutions to help organisations create accessible and inclusive products and services.
