About us
Who we are
Location is pervasive today and that's only going to increase in our view as the meta changes of the 21st Century move forward: autonomy, IoT, M2M, smart devices, wearables are all anchored and enabled through positioning, navigation and timing technology.
Things are moving at such a pace that often the regulatory, ethical, legal and user acceptance aspects are complex and sometimes lagging.
The Royal Institute of Navigation is at the heart of these developments. We are a learned society, incorporated under Royal Charter, whose obective is to advance the art, science and practice of navigation. We achieve this by bringing together interdisciplinary teams to share experiences and knowledge and to debate the key issues of the day. We communicate with multiple stakeholders and connect people through a variety of means - from traditional conferences to digital media, forums and everything in between. We also publish the Journal of Navigation as a focus of the innovation and research that enables the changes that we are all seeing in our daily lives.
