About us

Who we are

Safer Places is an independent charity which provides a comprehensive range of services to adults and children affected by domestic abuse who live in Essex and Hertfordshire. We are a progressive Domestic Abuse Support Service, passionate about reaching and supporting all victims of domestic abuse on the basis of risk, need and choice. We understand that different groups have different needs and may be more or less reluctant to come forward and we are continually developing our services to ensure that they are accessible and acceptable to all those who need them. We have a range of accommodation also which can be part of the support package including refuges, accommodation for male victims and specialist accommodation. We offer a wide range of additional services including group programmes, counselling, legal support and a range of specialist services in addition to the services you would normally expect a domestic abuse service to offer. We want to reach and support people when they most need us so we operate 24 hours a day and seven days a week, running IDVA and Community based support services.

At Safer Places, our team are our most important resource and a real asset to us. Having a highly competent, survivor focused, experienced and resourceful team is key to delivering a high-quality service. We are proud of our team and our organisational culture is really important to us. We value diversity and recognise the strengths that different life and work experiences bring and so welcome applications from people of all work and educational as well as all other backgrounds and cultures.

Working for Safer Places is no ordinary job. Every role in our organisation plays a part in delivering on our Mission. We work hard to create an environment that inspires and empowers staff to give their best and we recognise that working with survivors who have experienced profound trauma and injustice is complex and challenging. We are committed to supporting our staff and to providing continued professional development and offer an excellent range of training and qualification packages.

In our last staff survey 100% of our staff said they were satisfied or very satisfied with their job. The survey was overwhelmingly positive with staff expressing very high levels of pride in Safer Places and a great sense of belonging.

We currently have many exciting and challenging opportunities within Safer Places due to expanding our operations.  We are looking to recruit people who share our perspective and in return we can offer a competitive salary and an excellent training package providing the opportunity for those without specialist qualifications to gain those within six months of joining and excellent continuous professional development opportunities to those who are already qualified.

Also, an enhanced DBS (Disclosure Barring Service) will be required for all roles. Please note that some of the roles are for a Fixed Term Contract. You will need to hold a current driving license and have use of a car in most of the roles.

Some of our services are for women only and is therefore restricted to women applicants under the Equality Act 2010 Schedule 9 and Part 1. Section 7 (2) e of the Sex Discrimination ACT 1975 applies. This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act.
