About us
Who we are
Our mission at St. Hilda’s East is to build a sustainable community that allows everyone to reach their potential. We enhance lives, boost well-being, and reduce inequalities by connecting local people to work, live, play, and learning opportunities.
Founded in 1889 by the Incorporated Guild of Cheltenham Ladies College, today St. Hilda’s East is a vibrant multicultural community-led charity that provides a wide range of life-changing and targeted opportunities, connecting and supporting local people from all walks of life and all ages across Tower Hamlets.
We combat social exclusion through a wide range of impactful educational, recreational, and social care programmes that enable, equip and empower individuals to thrive, improving community lives for all.
Our programmes are delivered from two main sites within Tower Hamlets, a flagship hub and community centre at Club Row in Shoreditch, a day centre in Sonali Gardens in Shadwell, as well as working in community partnerships and multiple outreach locations throughout the Borough.
Targeted interventions reduce isolation and empower people to play more active roles in community life. A preschool programme, youth programmes, social enterprise initiatives for women, a food cooperative, empowering support for older people, free legal and welfare advice, volunteering, and training opportunities are just some of the programmes we deliver that share skills, connect, and benefit local people.
Our culture and values
We believe our diversity is one of our greatest strengths. By fostering interfaith, intergenerational, and multicultural exchanges throughout our programmes, we promote greater understanding and social cohesion in our community.
Equality, diversity and inclusion policy
St Hilda's is committed to racial justice and wider inclusion and diversity. We are working towards a goal where our team fully reflects the diversity and difference in lived experiences of our local community.
