About us
Who we are
First opening its doors in Covent Garden in 1964, for well over 50 years, the organisation has been
the spirit and soul of African culture, supporting African enterprise and education in the UK.
The Africa Centre promotes the diversity of Africa and its diaspora, by highlighting creativity and
innovation in African thought, art, culture, business and entrepreneurship.
We are proud of our past and passionate about our future. Our vision is of a contemporary 21st century Africa - vibrant, global and seated at the table. Our central aim is to become the most welcoming cultural hub in London.
Our Southwark home is based in the London Borough with the largest black-African population.
The organisation is about to undertake a major capital re-development of its four-storey building,
to create an Africa Centre for the 21st Century.
