About us

Who we are

The Regent Hall buildings on Oxford Street were purchased by The Salvation Army founder, William Booth, and opened as the Regent Hall Church in 1882 just 17 years after The Salvation Army was founded.

Very different in appearance to a traditional church, Regent Hall was originally designed as a roller skating rink and to this day is affectionately known as ‘The Rink’.  The building is substantial and runs through to Princes Street very close to Hanover Square where a new Crossrail terminal will be located, opening in 2018.

The Regent Hall is now nearly 135 years old with a membership of around 250 and continues to attract many visitors to the services and to the iconic building.  The Regent Hall Band marches up and down Oxford Street and surrounding streets on Sundays at 10am and 2pm and Regent Hall holds two Sunday services at 11.00am and 3.00pm.

The Regent Hall also exists to serve our community of Westminster. We operate our welcoming Oasis Cafe and Bookshop from the Oxford Street entrance and hire out the main hall and other meeting rooms for conferences, concerts, meetings, market research and other activities, when not in use by the church.  The proceeds of these initiatives help to support the work of our Drop-In Centre called ‘No. 10’.

No. 10 is located in Princes Street, a day centre providing advice, support and assistance, as well as a weekly programme of activities to homeless and otherwise vulnerable adults in the Westminster area.  In order to continue its work, No. 10 relies on financial and practical support from Regent Hall and from the generosity of the public and commercial organisations in the form of financial donations, the provision of food, clothing and toiletries and through the provision of vital volunteer support with their activities.

Next door to Regent Hall at 9 Princes Street is The Salvation Army Charity Shop.  Although this is operated separately by the Salvation Army Trading Company, the shop supports the No. 10 Drop-In Centre with their clothing and other requirements.  The proceeds from sales of donated clothing and homewares supports the national work of The Salvation Army.

The Regent Hall has a rich history in London’s West End but also has an exciting future offering an oasis of calm, help and support open to all in an area that is otherwise fast-paced and commercially focussed.

Thank you for taking an interest in The Salvation Army Regent Hall.  We value support from our local community, whether that is from individuals or corporate organisations; there is always something you can do or can provide that will help us to continue the vital work we do to help those in need within our community.
