About us

Who we are

We are proud to be one of the oldest charities in Surrey and our Patron was the former Prince of Wales.

We own and manage Whiteley Village near Walton on Thames, where we have been supporting older people in need for over a century. Our charity offers housing with care support to around 400 older people, most of whom are beneficiaries and unable to buy or rent their own home on the open market.

At Whiteley Village we offer a wide variety of homes including:

  • Over 250 listed almshouse cottages – one of the largest provisions of almshouse accomodation in the UK.
  • 50 extra-care flats in Huntley House – the first such facility built in Surrey.

Although most of our accommodation is intended for older people of limited means, we do have a small number of purchase leasehold options.

Our charity also offers residential nursing care at Whiteley Village, mainly for those who can self-fund. All the proceeds from our self-funding residents support the work of our charity and benefit the whole community at Whiteley Village.

Our culture and values

Our vision is to sustain a thriving community with outstanding accommodation; to support and care for older people of limited means; to develop and share our success, so more older people can live happy and fulfilling lives.

Our plan is to provide more affordable housing for those who need it most, and to offer support that enables residents to remain independent and active for as long as possible.

To achieve this vision the Trust is currently reviewing feasibility options to unlock a future development strategy with Elmbridge Borough Council and Surrey County Council as part of the Elmbridge Local Plan and Public Policy requirements in affordable housing for older people.

Our plans are in keeping with several recommendations from The Housing Learning and Improvement Network’s (Housing LIN) report published in August 2019 with Southampton City Council identifying the health care system benefits of housing with care.

Equality, diversity and inclusion policy

The Trust is committed to being an Equal Opportunities employer and to ensuring that all employees, job applicants, volunteers, residents, Trustees and any other third party with whom it deals, are treated fairly and are not subjected to unfair or unlawful discrimination.

We seek to ensure that no one suffers, either directly or indirectly, as a result of discrimination.

Our Equal Opportunities Policy underpins all procedures relating to access and provision of services.
