About us
Who we are
Together in Barnet (TiB)'s vision is that noone should spend even one night on the streets of our borough. We provide a safety net for those needing a safe and welcoming place away from the streets in Barnet. We run the only night shelter provision in the borough, offering people of all genders with low to medium needs who are experiencing homelessness emergency accommodation. With the help of a coalition of interfaith volunteers from 32 multi-faith communities we provide 17 people per night a warm, welcoming, safe place to sleep, dinner and breakfast. We take referrals directly from our long-standing partner charity, Homeless Action in Barnet (HAB). Together in Barnet truly is an interfaith and multifaith grassroots community project. We have Churches, Synagogues and Mosques in our shelter 'circuit' as well as interfaith teams e.g. a synagogue provides volunteers to a nearby church and together they run their session of the shelter. In 2019, we planned to extend the shelter from 8 months to 12 months of the year but were forced to close due to the pandemic at the end of March 2020. In response, we opened a Covid-safe 16 bed, 24/7 project in a local hotel in January-June 2021 and then opened again in October 2021 and closed at the end of March 2022. In total, we supported 52 people with emergency accommodation for a total of 194 nights and served over 6000 meals. Of the 52 people we supported with emergency accommodation, 48 of those engaged with support and moved on from the hotel into more stable accommodation. This winter we are planning on returning to our normal ways of working and opening up again as a traditional rolling night shelter.
