About us

Who we are

The Community Association for West Hampstead was awarded funding by Camden Council from 2009-2011 to develop a new community centre in West Hampstead. A Manager and part-time Administrator started work in January 2009, and West Hampstead Community Centre (WHCC) moved into a refurbished community hall at 17 Dornfell St, NW6, in June of that year. A wide range of activities for children and adults have been established in the centre, and projects are in the process of being developed for teenagers and older people. Space in the community hall is limited, and WHCC has been granted a licence to use space at a local Play Centre. WHCC hires out both venues to other organisations, and for private functions, and this is a source of income. WHCC uses other available venues in the area as required for its events and activities. The organisation has transitional funding from Camden Council that will help take us to the end of end March 2013. From then on, WHCC will be self-funding. We are currently working on plans to make the organisation self-sufficient from April 2013. Volunteers will be a key resource in driving the funding effort. There will be opportunities for new developments, including partnership working and the possibility of running the local after school play service which is to be tendered out in September 2012. The current Manager is leaving to take up a three year funded post in another community centre. The staffing structure has been reviewed in the light of our current needs and resources.
