Job description

Role purpose

To amplify and accelerate our reach and impact by showcasing Voice 21’s story through compelling branding, publicity, messaging, content and case studies.

Working in the External Relations Team, you will build Voice 21’s brand and voice within the education sector, generating school and supporter interest through purposeful communications, captivating content and engaging events.

Key responsibilities

  • Making the most of the charity’s growing profile and reaching more schools and supporters through an effective communications, marketing and events strategy

  • Creating and commissioning marketing materials and content and proactively spotting new opportunities to raise awareness of our work across the sector

  • Planning, delivering and leading purposeful and planned communications cycles & campaigns

  • Writing external, broadcast communications, newsletters, email campaigns and publicity materials

  • Showcasing the stories and impact of our network of member schools - and the students they serve - in engaging and innovative ways i.e. through the creation of multimedia content, such as graphics, animation and video

  • Ensuring our website and social media channels are as engaging and impactful as possible

  • Ensure our brand guidelines are up-to-date, practical and accessible

  • Working with colleagues across the organisation to ensure they have suitable messaging and materials for their key audiences

  • Planning and leading Voice 21’s headline events

  • Co-leading user and market research across External Relations’ key stakeholders

  • Developing processes, tools and ways of working to deliver integrated communications, including through Salesforce and Campaigns Monitor

  • Managing outsourced specialist support contracts as needed i.e. website developers, graphic designers, video editors

  • Building relationships with journalists, proactively pitch stories and maintain a media contacts database

  • Making the most of local and regional press opportunities where our member schools are based

  • Regularly reviewing the charity’s position within the education landscape, identifying and generating opportunities and mitigating against risks that may impact our work

  • Co-managing the External Relations budget

  • Being an invaluable part of the ER team, demonstrating our values of trust and integrity and contributing ideas, energy, proactivity & drive.

Essential knowledge and skills

  • A track record in communications

  • A strong editorial eye and superb copywriting skills

  • An ability to convey complex and technical information in an appealing way, understanding the needs of different audiences.

  • An ability to deliver best-in-class email campaigns and content

  • Experience of managing social media platforms/creating multimedia content and/or experience of multi-channel marketing and/or experience of events and stakeholder management

  • Experience planning and managing successful projects, partnerships and events

  • Ability to form excellent working relationships, internally & externally

  • Experience using Campaigns Monitor, Salesforce and Wordpress or other similar systems (mass mailout, database and website management software)

  • Excellent organisational and time management skills, able to stay on top of multiple, varied projects and relationships.
