Yorkshire Wildlife Trust is one the region’s largest and oldest charities managing over 100 nature reserves and works with many other land managers assisting them to improve wildlife. The Trust works to involve people in nature conservation through events, environmental education and community involvement.

The supporter services team is part of the Fundraising and Engagement Directorate which includes the Membership, Events, Communications and Fundraising team.  As part of their work, the Supporter Services team process all new membership and are looking for a volunteer to help pack our mailing of welcome packs and other post.  Ideally our volunteer will also help keep both our literature and events storeroom tidy.

What you'll be supporting us with:

• Assembling membership welcome packs for new Yorkshire Wildlife Trust members
• Packing membership packs ready for the Friday mailing
• Putting together other regular mailings to new and existing members
• Filing of confidential information
• Keeping the storeroom tidy and in order.
• Discarding any out-of-date literature.
• Putting away stock after events.
• Informing staff of low supplies.
• Help gather equipment for events.
• Help take in deliveries.
• Helping with other tasks as required.

SLDAS OCN Accredited Volunteer Training Programme

SLDAS is a local organisation working in South Liverpool. We support women who have experienced or are experiencing domestic abuse. We are a small team and are busier than ever and we need volunteers to help us reach all the women who we support. Have you got some time to give us?

All volunteers complete our Open College Network training programme that is accredited with Open Awards. Our aim is to provide trainee volunteers with the skills, knowledge and confidence necessary to enable them to work with women who are currently experiencing domestic abuse or have experienced it in the past.

Do you love nature? Do you enjoy meeting people? Why not help support Cumbria Wildlife Trust events in South Cumbria, at Staveley Woodlands & Brown Robin nature reserves.

The role will be based at our Staveley Woodlands & Brown Robin nature reserves and predominantly outdoors. Our events at both locations are varied, so your duties will differ from event to event.

Wildlife Trust staff and volunteers often run events at nearby reserves and sometimes need an extra pair of hands.  We need someone who can help with fetching and carrying, supporting attendees, act as a backmarker on walks and generally help the event run smoothly.

Although no experience is necessary, being able to get along with people from all walks of life is essential, as is an ability to deal with uneven ground.  The benefits are great company and feeling that you’re helping people discover the natural world.

This is a very flexible role. Choose which events you’d like to help with.

Travel costs will be reimbursed and lift sharing can often be arranged on request.

This volunteer role is not suitable for wheelchair users.

Duration: Sessions will be ad hoc but will be planned well in advance, giving you plenty of notice, and may last from two hours to a full day.

We are looking for individuals with professional or lived experience of working with children. Our volunteer playworkers are passionate about play and providing a welcoming and safe space for all children.

About the Role

As a volunteer play worker, you will work in partnership with the Specialist Family Support Worker in the planning and delivery of play sessions. Most children will be between the ages of 2-5 years.

Play sessions will be child-centered and age-appropriate, and will include arts and crafts, sensory play and free play with toys/resources in the refuge. Working with the Specialist Family Support Worker, you will be able to respond to the individual needs of the children and adapt sessions as needed. You will record your observations on each child at the end of the session and reflect on how the sessions went with Specialist Family Support Worker.

You will be supported by the Specialist Family Support Worker in monthly supervisions. This is a space to discuss your volunteering role, what is going well for you and areas of support you need.

We are looking for volunteers to support one session per week, either:

• Wednesday 10am – 1pm (Islington)
• Friday 12pm – 3pm (Enfield)  

You will be expected to participate in setting up and in the evaluation of the session. You may also be asked your availability to attend additional sessions and trips to be held over school half terms.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking volunteers who have:

• Professional and/or lived experience of working with children
• Understanding of the impact of domestic abuse on children and young people
• A strengths-focused approach to working with challenging behaviour
• Knowledge of Safeguarding Children and Child Protection Procedures, or who are willing to learn
• Commitment to attend Safeguarding, Health and Safety, and Equality and Diversity training with Solace Women’s Aid
• Ability to communicate effectively with children aged 0-5, parents and staff
• Basic knowledge of child development
• Organisation and time management skills

Although not essential, we would welcome applications from volunteers who have a formal qualification in working with children, young people and families, or who have knowledge of trauma-informed approaches to working with children and young people.

Coping with bereavement involves painful feelings, coming to terms with loss and making adjustments in life.  We are looking for volunteers to provide short-term support to people experiencing bereavement, helping them to explore their feelings and adapt to their new life.

Your role will include some of, but is not restricted to, the following tasks:

• Provide bereavement support either in the hospice, over the phone or at the person’s home
• Provide short term confidential emotional support to clients 
• Actively listen to clients and explore their feelings around their loss with empathy
• Pass on appropriate information to the Bereavement team 
• Keep to hospice record keeping procedures
• Help with other related tasks when necessary

Why we need your help

We are looking for Ward Support Volunteers to support patients and staff on our busy wards. 

You will spend time talking with patients and help them take part in activities which meet their interests and needs – this could be in a group or on an individual basis. You may also be asked to help staff with admin tasks and catering requirements.

What we need you to do

Your role will include some of, but is not restricted to, the following tasks:

• Sit and chat with patients and identify their personal interests 
• Plan and offer activities to patients such as reading, card games, board games, crosswords and listening to music

We are a global alliance of  47 local organisations in 38 countries, working on the front line with children and families in need. About the role

We are looking for a Treasurer with experience of working with not for profits in setting strategic financial direction and it would be desirable if they have experience in complying with the regulations of the Charity Commission for England and Wales or similar regulatory bodies.

You would be joining our board at an exciting time, as we implement our new strategy, build on our campaigns and broaden our advocacy to mobilise greater support and achieve change. In line with this, we have built our model on realistic income forecasts, we plan to maintain the net unrestricted funds available, we are building restricted funding streams to fund our thematic priorities, we continue to align income and expenditure on 6 month, 12 month and 18 month time horizons and we carefully manage the commitment of our remaining surplus reserves.

Responsibilities of the Treasurer

In addition to the general responsibilities of a trustee (see below), the responsibility of the Treasurer is to maintain an overview of the organisation's affairs, ensuring its financial viability and that the organisation has policies and systems in place to ensure robust financial planning, implementation and reporting.  For example, by taking a lead role on behalf of the board in:

• Reviewing budgets, accounts and financial statements, and recommending them to the Board for approval

• Being assured that the financial resources of the organisation meet its present and future needs

• Ensuring that the charity has an appropriate reserves policy

• Ensuring that appropriate accounting procedures and controls are in place

• Ensuring that the charity has an appropriate investment policy

• Ensuring that the accounts are prepared and disclosed in the form required by funders and the relevant statutory bodies

• Ensuring that the accounts are scrutinised through external audits and internal reviews and that any recommendations are implemented

• Keeping the Board informed about its financial duties and responsibilities

• Making a formal presentation of the accounts at the General Meeting and drawing attention to important points in a coherent and easily understandable way

• Chairing the Resource Mobilisation and Communications Committee (formerly the Finance and Human Resources Committee) and leading meetings three times a year

• Ensuring that organisation has processes in place to meet any compliance requirements

Person specification

We are looking for someone with the following experience and capability:

All trustees need to have the following: 

• Understanding, or commitment to acquire an understanding, of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trustees of a UK charity. Acceptance of these duties, responsibilities and liabilities, and a commitment to operate within them.

• Good, independent judgement and the ability to operate at a strategic level.

• An ability and willingness to work as a part of a team and to support the staff team.

• Understanding and empathy with Family for Every Child’s vision, mission, values and beliefs.

In addition to the trustee person specification, the Treasurer needs to have: 

• Financial and business experience at a senior management or director level

• An understanding of the charity sector, for example an appreciation of the operations, accounting (including SORP) and legal framework in the UK

• Experience in complying with the regulations of the Charity Commission for England and Wales or a similar regulatory body

• Significant experience of financial management and strategy

• Some experience of charity fundraising is desirable

• The skills to analyse proposals and examine their financial consequences.

Desirable, but not essential requirements:

• experience of working with or on a board

• a qualified member of a recognised accountancy body 

• Experience of both local and international not for profits.

Time Commitment

This is a substantial and responsible role, and will suit someone able to commit about 18-20 hours three times a year. This includes about 18 hours a year for meetings (which are held on Zoom at a time which is most mutually convenient for attendees in different time zones), as well as time for reading and preparation. 

Board and committee meetings are three times a year, and there may be ad hoc meetings between the regular meetings. If the Treasurer also sits on the board of a subsidiary entity, there are additional three board meetings. In addition, trustees are requested to provide support and guidance to the CEO and other Secretariat staff on an ongoing basis. 

The initial term is a three-year period which can be reviewed by the Board..

Please note that this is an advisory role, with no remuneration. Expenses for travel, as

Family for Every Child has zero-tolerance for abuse and exploitation of all people and all Trustees are expected to understand and comply with the Safeguarding policy (which includes the safeguarding code of conduct) and other related policies.

This role is one of two Trustee positions on the Board providing oversight of the Trust’s finances and financial management. In addition to the general duties of trustees (more information here), the role involves:

· Monitoring the financial standing of the charity.

· Ensuring that the charity’s finances are managed responsibly.

· Overseeing the reporting of the financial health of the charity to the Board of Trustees and of the charity’s financial risk-management process.

· Providing general support and oversight for the effective running of the Trust as a member of the Board of Trustees.

The role may also include chair responsibility for the Trust’s Finance Committee (not essential).

Specific Finance Responsibilities – in conjunction with the Chair of the Finance Committee

Scrutiny of papers produced by the Head of Finance & Operations (HoFO) and the wider Senior Management Team in the following areas:

Budgeting and strategic financial planning

• Ensure that strategic plans are financially appraised and that implementation plans are aligned with budgets.
• Provide constructive challenge to the annual and longer-term budget and forecasting processes.
• Ensure transparency and accountability in resource allocation.

Management Reporting

• Ensure that a high standard of management accounting is maintained.
• Liaise with the Chair of the Finance Committee to guide the HoFO in the preparation and production of high quality management accounts to the Board.

Statutory Financial Reporting

• Ensure the finalisation of statutory financial accounts by the HoFO in line with charity regulations and statements of recommended practice and the completion of the external audit process. Assist fellow trustees to formally approve the Trustees’ Annual Report and Annual Accounts

Reserves Policy

• Review the reserves policy.

Keep the Board informed regularly of the free reserves position and advise on strategies for coping with changing circumstances.

Governance and Financial Control

• Ensure that proper accounting records are kept, financial resources are controlled, invested and economically spent in line with governance, legal and regulatory requirements.
• Attend quarterly Finance Committee meetings and support the Chair of the Finance Committee in reporting financial matters to the Board of trustees.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Marie Curie Companion is a professional service provided by trained volunteers who offer one-to-one companionship and support to people with a terminal illness and their families. The service would not be able to reach those most in need if it was not for the commitment and hard work of the volunteers delivering the service.

Companion volunteers provide companionship and emotional support, practical support, short breaks for carers and help with signposting for information and support.

Your role will include some of, but is not restricted to, the following tasks:

• Carry out weekly visits with the person(s) you’re supporting, as agreed with the Volunteer Co-ordinator. This could be in a variety of settings, eg family home, a care home or in the community.
• Provide one-to-one companionship and support. 

For example: offering a listening ear and spending time engaging in every-day conversation, activities or hobbies with the person you are supporting. Driving clients to pre-arranged health or social care (e.g. to medical appointments) or taking short trips out. Helping with small, daily tasks, e.g. making tea or accessing the internet. Allowing carers to have a short break. You may be supporting your client’s family or carers before or during bereavement.  This may involve offering emotional support, signposting to relevant local support services or finding out information as requested 

(This is only an outline as support will vary according to individual needs. Companion volunteers do not provide nursing or personal care, or offer counselling or advice)

• Keep your manager informed of any changes to the situation, or any significant happenings in connection to the person you’re supporting and/or their family, either in person or by phone 
• Submit regular visit reports to your manager and update relevant computer systems as required 
• Be reliable and committed to regularly spending time with someone and offering support
• Attend individual sessions with your Volunteer Co-ordinator, training and group events as required 
• Represent the Marie Curie Companion service positively to those using the service

Marie Curie and Northern Health and Social Care Trust have joined together to offer a service to support people at the end of life.

Spending time with patients and/or their relatives, we’re looking for volunteers to provide emotional support, a listening ear, and to simply be there for patients with a palliative diagnosis and their loved ones.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING.

Your role will include some of, but is not restricted to, the following tasks:

• Support patients in line with agreed boundaries and procedures
• Spend time listening and talking with patients, family, friends, and carers.
• Signpost families and friends to other services, as appropriate
• Write and submit, to the Volunteer Manager, a brief report on each visit.
• Keep the Service Manager informed of any changes of significant happenings in connection with the client, either in person or by telephone
• Be an active part of the team of Marie Curie Companions and the wider team of Antrim Area Hospital’s volunteers.
• Attend regular group support and development sessions for Marie Curie Companions
• Help with other related tasks when necessary.
