The Role 
 
Last autumn, Yorkshire Cancer Research opened the first Yorkshire Cancer Research Centre – a fully integrated Cancer Rehabilitation Centre, Café, Shop, Donation Centre and Office, all under one roof.

We are currently looking for a Deputy Café Manager to join our Café team. Reporting to the Café Manager, you will be involved in the day to day running of the café, serving food and drink in a positive and welcoming manner. This role would ideally suit someone working in a similar position looking for a new challenge or for someone looking to step into their first management role.  
 

Specifically, you will: 

• Play an active part in running our Café in Harrogate, supporting the Café Manager in implementing processes and ways of working.

• Support the Café Manager to maximise the income and profit of the Café through active stock management, replenishment, and rotation. 

• Manage the efficient and effective day-to-day operation of the Café in the absence of the Café Manager. 

• Support the Café Manager to ensure the Café is presented to the highest standards. 

• Maintain an up-to-date awareness of developments within the café/food service industry and recommend appropriate changes to the delivery of café services and products to the Café Manager. 

• Manage a team of well-trained volunteers and staff and take every effort to create a happy Café environment. 

• Ensure there are sufficient volunteers and staff to support the effective operation of the Café during all opening hours. 

• Maximising profitability through driving sales and managing and controlling costs, stock, and margins effectively. 

• Prepare and complete all Café administration in the absence of the Café Manager including cash handling and banking functions to the highest standard, accurately and on time, always adhering to charity policy and procedures. 

• Develop and coach a team of volunteers and staff to deliver an outstanding customer experience. 

• Create a welcoming professional atmosphere and deliver high standards of customer service for all customers and supporters. 

About You 

To be considered for this role, you will need: 

• To be ideally educated to GCSE level or equivalent but not essential.

• To have a Level 3 Food Safety & Hygiene Certification. 

• To have experience of managing people/volunteers including recruitment and development. 

• To have a proven track record in hospitality or catering.

• To have previous experience in charity sector or commercial sector is desirable. 

• To have basic understanding of Microsoft Office programs including Outlook, Word, and Excel. 

• To be highly organised with good time management skills.

• To be able to to prioritise workload and meet deadlines.

• To have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. 

• To be resilient and adaptable to change. 

• To have good written and numeric skills are desirable.

About the team

The Shop Support Team Administrator role sits within our Shop Support Team in the Income Generation directorate at Shelter, you will report into the Shop Support Team Manager.

About the Role

Providing comprehensive support to our Shops and Retail function is what’s required here. You’ll be the first point of contact for staff, customers and supporters and also be responsible for all aspects of the shop supplies orders process - from price checking to placing orders. And, when it comes to finance or new goods admin – like processing invoices, raising new product codes or assisting with stock takes, again we’ll count on you. Ensuring new shops have the necessary supplies and signage, maintaining till number records, updating spreadsheets and managing the shop’s online handbook – all are aspects of this interesting, varied and vital support role.

About you

About the Role:

The main responsibilities of the role are outlined below:

• To act as organisational lead for CYP, ensuring effective development and delivery of operational and strategic policy.
• To represent VS externally to influence policy, and work collaboratively with business development and external partners to grow services.
• To progress our CYP strategic priorities to grow our portfolio, improve access and embed procedures, tools and resources to improve the quality of our support.
• To oversee the delivery of our WeMatter online programme for CYP affected by Domestic Abuse and ensure that funding and evaluation requirements are achieved.
• To develop and write procedures, guidance and tools and deliver development sessions to support practice.
• To design and undertake thematic audits to drive improvements.
• To ensure that our systems support staff and volunteers to provide quality support to CYP.

This role is home based but some travel is required across England and Wales to attend meetings, deliver training and undertake audits.

This is a national role, which will lead the implementation and ongoing development of our new case management approach and support framework for CYP services. We are looking for a dynamic individual, with a creative flare who can drive and lead change. You will have excellent communication skills and experience of developing accessible procedures and engaging resources for a range of audiences. You will have sound knowledge of the criminal justice system and the impacts of crime, trauma, and victimisation on children and young people, with the ability to inspire and motivate others to provide high quality and responsive services. • Being an accessible point of contact for the children living with our carers and to our young people, keeping them up to date with the facilities and opportunities available with TACT
• Providing support to children with emotional welfare and mental health needs
• Supporting interventions and activities to ensure stable placement arrangements
• Being able to transport children and young people to events, appointments and meetings (mileage reimbursed)
• Organising and participating in virtual and face-to-face events and occasional residential meet-ups
• Managing all paperwork associated with events and activities
• Willingness to work flexibly, according to deadlines and needs of our families which may include some after-school, evening and weekend work
• Undertaking trauma-informed direct work with children and young people 

The successful candidate must also be willing and able to travel to the Yorkshire area quarterly for face-to-face team meetings, training, and wellbeing events with the potential for occasional travel to other areas around the UK to facilitate children's residential stays.
