This is an opportunity to join Refuge as a Service Manager to support women and children who are impacted by domestic abuse and other gender-based crimes. In this role you will provide line management and support to staff who work with and help women and their children who have experienced domestic abuse and are staying in our Lambeth refuges. Our Lambeth refuges are culturally specific services for women and children of African and Caribbean heritage. This will include providing supervision on complex casework issues such as child protection, overseeing operational emergencies and ensuring high standards of casework.
Please note that this post is restricted to women due to the nature of the role. The Occupational Requirement under Schedule 9 (part 1) of the Equality Act 2010 applies. This role will also require an enhanced DBS check.

Overview
The Choir with No Name runs choirs and builds joyful singing communities with homeless and marginalised people, around the UK. Currently, there are six choirs: in Birmingham, Liverpool, London, Coventry, Brighton (run in partnership with BHT Sussex) and Cardiff (run in partnership with The Wallich). We were founded on the premise that singing makes you feel good; it distracts you from all the nonsense in life and helps you to build confidence, skills and genuine, long-lasting friendships. Our choir members are people who have experienced homelessness, or who are simply going through a tough time in their lives.

We have recently received funding from the National Lottery to build our participation programme to support choir members and people from the wider community work together to create safe, accessible and inclusive choir communities, as well as contribute to the national direction of the Choir with No Name. We are looking for someone to take on this exciting new role to lead the development of our participation programme at a national level as our Community Participation Manager. This role will work with our six current choirs and build a foundation for all future choirs.
As an organisation, we are committed to moving towards greater co-creation of choirs with people with experience of homelessness. This role is a crucial part of this journey.
This role could be for you if you come from a background of volunteer management, client involvement, participation, or co-production.

Participation framework
- Carry out a skills audit across all our choirs to understand what skills are needed to run each choir with greater involvement from choir members, facilitated by choir managers. This will include discovering what skills choirs have amongst their existing member and volunteer communities, and what support and training could be shared.
- Research other organisations’ participation frameworks and volunteer programmes to identify ways in which the Choir with No Name can learn from others in the sector.
- Identify a range of tasks, roles, and responsibilities (being clear about the distinction between the these) that members and people in the community can take part in to support the running of the choir, along with the training they would need to do so.
- Identify healthy ways to step down from roles and responsibilities.
- Design and pilot a framework of roles, responsibilities and tasks, and associated training and support, before rolling out nationally across all our choirs.
Existing volunteer programme
- Evaluate our existing volunteering programme, listening to our volunteer team about their experience as a volunteer, identifying areas for development.
- Develop the existing volunteer programme to support and value volunteers and to incorporate our new approach to co-creation and co-production.
- Work with our existing volunteers in a transition from the current programme into the participation framework, whilst continuing communicating the value and importance of volunteers within the Choir with No Name.
Manage volunteer communications
- Develop and manage accessible communications to ensure volunteers are equipped with the tools they need to do their roles (training, policies, support) and feel valued (thanks and recognition for their hard work). This could include:
- A regular email to volunteers
- An online portal for volunteers to access whenever they need
- Regular meetings for volunteers to keep them up to date with what is going on in the organisation and to share practice
Volunteer recruitment, induction, training and data
- Lead on national volunteer recruitment and support local recruitment carried out by Choir Managers.
- Develop, with choir members and volunteers, a training programme to support roles within choir. This training should come in a range of forms, and where possible, led or informed by choir members.
- Manage volunteer data, including developing our data management system (currently Monday, but we are considering using Plinth), ensuring:
- Inductions are completed consistently and reviewed for long term volunteers.
- Training is implemented and kept up to date.
- Volunteer data is managed in a central database so we can effectively communicate, track and understand our impact.
- Reporting on volunteer numbers and other information is provided to the Senior Management Team and board.
Other
- Support the development of the Board Experience Programme and the Member Advisory Panel, led by the CEO and Head of Programmes.
- Work towards the Investing in Volunteers or Kings Award for Voluntary Service.
- Carry out any other duties as may be reasonably required by the Choir with No Name within the scope of the role.

Responsible for: Leading the specialist team
Main Purpose:
Working as a senior specialist practitioner you will be leading the Hope intensive support team which is a peripatetic team, who will be providing support, multiagency advocacy, case management support, guidance for support workers and clients in our refuges who are multiply disadvantaged and require intensive, well planned and implemented support to recover from the abuse they have experienced and to remain safe from further domestic abuse and to address the additional disadvantages they experience which put their wellbeing and that of their children at further risk. The role includes completing and overseeing the case management for refuge clients and families who are within the top 20% in terms of vulnerability. This could stem from a multiplicity of intersecting circumstances or being severely vulnerable in one specific area or a mixture of both, bringing expertise in supporting people with mental ill health and you will be a source of ad hoc professional advice for refuge practitioners delivering support to those with mental ill health within the remaining refuge caseload.

3. Ensure, the participation of all third-party agencies that should be involved in the case to safeguard a strong multidisciplinary working arrangement to support the family/individual.
4. Ensure that relationships are built with the adult and any children and work with the adult directly on a one-to-one basis by phone, in person or online
5. Apply a trauma informed approach to establishing and maintaining effective relationships with each client through an understanding of the prevalence and impact of trauma and the complex paths to healing and recovery.
6. Support the team and clients to assess their needs and aspirations, using a client centred, strengths-based approach in line with Safer Places values.
7. Ensure that in advance of weekly review meetings all practitioners and agencies that are working with the client have been invited to the meeting or to update the meeting.
8. Task and coordinate the work of the team for the following week and communicate to all involved including the senior practitioner or manager of the local case holder regarding the results of the review and actions for the next week.
9. Ensure clients are supported to make choices and access the services identified. This may involve advocating on behalf of your clients for their rights and needs to be met.
10. Ensure support is provided to clients and their children living in the accommodation in line with a structured plan that is driven by the risks posed to the client and the needs and preferences of the individual client, which is regularly reviewed with the client and line manager to ensure it reflects their current situation and priorities across the caseload, using mandated best practice tools.
11. Report on every case every week through a standard report to the Assistant Director and Director of operations identifying current issues and risks, progress made, next steps and the need for further support to enable the family to make progress against the goals the client has agreed within the plan such as escalation for more senior level advocacy with agencies, additional advocacy with agencies or commissioner involvement through the Director of operations to unlock barriers to progress e.g. .to ensure that a child is provided with a school place without delay, ensuring that a client does receive the mental health assessment required, or the debt management support required, in a timely manner and to ensure that all safeguarding responsibilities are being responded to by the relevant agencies without delay.
12. Ensure that the standard operating procedure for refuge services is followed at all times and that meticulous case-notes are maintained
13. Forge effective professional and close working relationships with colleagues within Safer Places and in third party agencies conducting yourself always in a professional manner.
14. Ensure accurate records are set up and maintained for all contacts and activities following appropriate legislation and policy.
15. Respond to crises, safeguarding issues, and complaints effectively.
16. Attend regular casework supervision session with your manager and team to discuss and reflect on client-related work.
17. Work closely with the Designated Safeguarding lead to ensure all measures are delivered in respect of clients and their children and that at all times you adhere strictly to Safer Places policies and procedures in respect of Safeguarding vulnerable adults and children.
18. To oversee staffing establishments to ensure they are consistent with the needs of service users and at safe and effective operational levels.
19. Responsible for the recruitment, selection and retention process for all staff and posts within the area
