Art Against Knives are looking for a Female Senior Youth Worker to support our IN OUR HANDS Programme across the Barnet Borough.
The IN OUR HANDS programme was created by a group of young people from Dollis Valley estate in Barnet in 2012. They suggested running a nail bar that would ‘put Dollis Valley estate on the map for something positive, not just negative things like stabbings’. 7 years later they’ve done just that, the programme has gone onto support over 500 young people.
The act of painting a young person’s nails allows us to build trusted relationships, enabling them to identify and share experiences, including abuse. We bring specialist support to them, within an environment that is accessible, comfortable and part of their everyday life; ensuring they receive the right support from the right people, at the right time.
We currently run 3 community nail/hair bars that are open weekly, providing a huge range of creative activity including masterclasses, showcase opportunities and Arts Award qualifications. As well as an action packed programme of pop-up activity in which we take the nail/har bar’s into community settings to engage with new young people and capture their voices through the co-production of a digital magazine. This role is key to this programme.

About the position
This is an exciting and demanding role for an outstanding individual with experience in managing and implementing development and human rights programs. The successful candidate will oversee a portfolio of the Freedom Fund’s investments in Ethiopia, focused on countering the trafficking and forced labour of Ethiopian women and girls for domestic work. S/he will join a growing team and work closely with the Freedom Fund’s partners on the ground to design and deliver quality programs, measure their impact, and support research and learning on behalf of the wider anti-slavery sector. The program will be mainly funded through U.S. government foreign assistance funding under the Program to End Modern Slavery (PEMS), managed by the Office to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons (TIP Office). Responsibilities
- Oversee Freedom Fund investments in Ethiopia with a view to maximising impact for Ethiopian domestic workers
- Set and periodically review program strategies
- Monitor program performance against objectives
- Working with colleagues in the strategic partnerships and finance teams, ensure professional implementation of the program and compliance with donor regulations

Background
Policy & Research Team

Job purpose

Research, Impact Assessment, Monitoring Evaluation and Learning (MEL):
- To lead the Foundation’s strategy for the identification, management and delivery of key strategic research programmes and producer impact assessment studies to strengthen and deepen understanding of the difference Fairtrade is making.
- To manage external relationships with professional institutions, academic bodies or individual research specialists in both the UK and the global south, to build best practice for Fairtrade’s research and producer impact assessment, identify relevant learning, and ensure that there is constructive dialogue.
- To work closely with Fairtrade International on agreed areas of collaboration in the areas of monitoring, evaluation and learning, including representing the Foundation on the Fairtrade International Monitoring Evaluation and Learning (MEL) Working Group.
- To undertake directly, or utilise Fairtrade funding to commission research on agreed, prioritised issues which arise from Fairtrade policies and standards and affect the impact of Fairtrade upon producers (issues could include gender equality, workers’ rights, access to natural resources, climate change, business purchasing practices and supply chain integration, producer access to credit etc).
- Manage the performance of any designated staff, volunteers, interns or consultants engaged to work on the delivery of our impact assessment, monitoring, evaluation and learning programme.

.Impact communication, information management and dissemination
- Work with colleagues across the organisation to ensure the delivery of a clear programme of impact communications work for internal and external stakeholders in line with cross organisational priorities. Stakeholders will include commercial licensees, government and major donors, and cross-organisational priorities include marketing and advocacy campaigns, or corporate communications. These will need to be targeted towards particular audiences, for instance commercial partner needs for evidence of impact.
- To ensure producer information and policy based research effectively informs the development of Fairtrade advocacy, media and campaign programmes, including advice on reactive issues which arise at short notice.
Strategy, Planning and Administration
- To develop, implement and review work plans, feeding into the overall team and organisational strategic planning processes.
- To identify whether external consultants and researchers are required to support the delivery of key research and policy objectives, coordinate and manage contracts and delivery of the work of external consultants / researchers.

This a highly rewarding role for an Outreach Worker to support parents and carers of children under 5 at Westminster Children Centres. We are currently looking to recruit three Outreach workers in Westminster area, where there is a significant population of Arabic and Bengali speaking families. The role will involve providing accessible information to parents and carers, particularly those who are marginalised, to ensure they receive the support they need in order to increase opportunities and strengthen family life, bringing better outcomes for children.
The role will include developing an understanding of the local area including services and facilities. You will also need to pro-actively engage with vulnerable and isolated families and carry out home visits, as required. The role will include developing good relationships with health visitors and liaising with other agencies regarding the needs of parents and carers. In addition, the successful individual will help to organise social events to bring the community together.
We are looking for someone who has experience of community and outreach work with diverse communities in an inner city environment. This will include experience of a wide range of methods/techniques to reach out and engage with isolated individuals/communities. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, along with the ability to empathise with parents and carers are required. A non-judgmental approach is essential. The ability to network is also important.

Approximately 75% of epilepsies are treatable, however in LMIC, 50-75% are not properly treated beause there is insufficient recognition of the symptoms of epilepsy.
