Job description

Independent Age works to ensure that as we grow older, we all have the opportunity to live well with dignity, choice and purpose.  To achieve this we provide information, advice and connection services for older people; campaign on the issues that matter most to them around health and care, poverty and loneliness and provide capacity building support to others working in the sector.

This is an exciting time to join the charity as we work on our new ambitious strategy for 2021 – 2023 and increase our profile, impact and reach so more people can live a happy, connected and purposeful later life.  

This critical role acts as the first point of contact for all of Independent Age’s social media channels. The post holder is responsible for creatively engaging Independent Age’s key audiences (service users, donors, campaigners and volunteers) through our social media channels, helping drive step-change growth in our brand profile, supporter base and the number of ways in which they engage with us. The successful candidate will oversee planning and content production for our social media channels, and play a lead role in developing, testing, and reporting on innovative digital content. Their input will be key to ensuring that the voice and needs of older people are at the forefront of our social media outputs. 

With the ability to work proactively and reactively, the post holder will also work closely with the media team to develop appropriate responses and support the Media Communications Manager in crisis communications. The ideal candidate will have experience of successfully engaging audiences across major social media platforms, using a variety of tools and tactics as part of social media plans and a track record of advising senior staff and internals teams on communications. Strong analytic skills with an understanding of organic social strategy, the ability to react quickly and enthusiasm for engaging supporters are also essential for this role.
