The role
We are looking for an exceptional Major Donor Manager to play a crucial role in ensuring the ongoing success and expansion of our new major donor team. Working closely with our Senior Major Donor Manager and Prospect Research Manager, this new role will lead on nurturing high-value relationships with prospective major donors who have capacity to give between £10k and £100k to FareShare, and develop and deliver a calendar of high-value cultivation events tailored to opportunities within our networks to strengthen relationships and maximise support.

Key responsibilities
- Build relationships with a portfolio of prospective major donors, understanding their philanthropic motivations, nurturing an affinity in FareShare, and tailoring opportunities for engagement to inspire major gifts.
- Foster a deep understanding of FareShare's work and strategy to effectively communicate, inspire and solicit funds. This includes developing relationships across the FareShare regional network and building a sound understanding of FareShare operations to support warehouse and frontline charity visits and tours.
- Develop innovative and personalised stewardship plans, in collaboration with senior colleagues when appropriate, to deepen donor relationships. Craft compelling written communications including emails, proposals, and reports to showcase the impact of donor support.
- Lead the planning and delivery of engaging cultivation events through opportunities presented in our networks, aimed at establishing new relationships and strengthening existing ones.
- Prepare effective briefs for our CEO and other senior stakeholders attending major donor meetings or events.
- Work closely with the Senior Major Donor Manager and Prospect Research Manager to enrich the prospect pipeline, always seeking opportunities within our internal and external networks.
- Work with colleagues across the Fundraising sub-teams to maximise cross over opportunities between income areas.
- Constantly scan the external environment and charity sector to optimise major donor experiences and identify new opportunities.
- Maintain accurate records of donor interactions in our CRM system and consistently update cultivation plans.

London’s Ari Ambulance provides advanced trauma care across the capital. They operate a helicopter and rapid response vehicle service 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, carrying out critical care procedures at the scene. World Child Cancer is seeking an experienced corporate and philanthropy fundraiser to join our growing team and play a vital role in improving the chances of survival and quality of life of children with cancer in under-resourced countries.
About World Child Cancer
Over 400,000 children worldwide develop cancer each year. Childhood cancer is most often curable, with over 80% survival rate in high income countries. However, in many low-and-middle-income countries survival rates are often 25% or lower.
World Child Cancer’s goal is to help redress that inequity and improve the chances of children with cancer to survive and thrive in under-resourced countries. We currently work with local hospitals in 12 countries in Africa, Asia and Mexico to enable children with cancer to have equal access to the best possible treatment and care through awareness raising on signs of childhood cancer, providing financial, logistical and emotional support to address barriers to access treatment, training of healthcare workers and advocacy.
Overview of the role
This newly created Senior Philanthropy and Partnerships Manager role will play a key part in raising income from companies and philanthropists to help achieve World Child Cancer’s mission.
You will be passionate about enabling children with cancer to have equitable access to quality treatment wherever they are born. MAIN PURPOSE
The Major Donor Manager, reporting into the Director of Development and working with some guidance from the Head of Major Gifts, will maintain and grow a stable pipeline of income from Major Donors. He/she will secure unrestricted and restricted income from a portfolio of Major Donors to support the activities of the Stella Maris network in the UK and overseas. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1 Manage relationships with a portfolio of Major Donors in accordance with the Charities fundraising strategy and giving programme activity.
2 Establish individual donor cultivation, engagement and stewardship strategies, ensuring each prospect and existing donor has an appropriate communications and cultivation programme in place.
3 Ensure that donor profiling and research activity is undertaken on existing and potential Major Donors (within data protection regulation guidelines) in order to enhance and develop relations.
4 Identify potential Major Donors from within the Mid-Value Donor portfolio and help graduate them up to Major Donor giving levels.
5 Working with the Governance and Executive team, conduct meetings and visits with individual Major Donors around the UK.
6 Accompany Major Donors on port visits within the UK and possibly abroad.
7 Craft carefully tailored applications, thank you letters and reports for Major Donors.
8 Support other senior staff and stakeholders, such as Trustees, in cultivating relationships with Major Donors by providing research and other information as required, and bringing them to meetings with Major Donors when appropriate.
9 Build and cultivate relationships with intermediaries, e.g. wealth advisers, lawyers.
10 Arrange events for Major Donors.
11 Ensure that all activity is recorded accurately on the charity’s Customer Relationship Management database, and that actions are undertaken in a timely and professional manner.
12 Extract monthly reports on activity levels with Major Donors, e.g. number of contacts, meetings, asks, etc., and circulate this internally to selected senior staff members.

Role Purpose
In this role, you will be responsible for leading the development and implementation of Womankind’s Major Donor Strategy to drive sustainable growth of our major donor portfolio.
The small major donor programme at Womankind has been established for several years. The Major Donor Manager will be responsible for new business within the portfolio, inspiring prospects and onboarding new high value relationships with individuals from a variety of different sources. The Major Donor Manager will also steward the relationships with our existing major donors and work with colleagues across Womankind to manage large gifts.
Key responsibilities
Strategic management and planning
- Lead the development and implementation of Womankind’s major donor fundraising strategy to grow both restricted and unrestricted income from existing and new major donors
- Develop and maintain a good understanding of gender and development issues and remain informed on Womankind’s activities ensuring that applications to donors are of a high quality and accurately reflect our organisational strategy
- Develop, manage and monitor budgets and provide internal financial reports, income analysis and forecasting and monthly key performance indicators using Womankind’s fundraising database
- Ensure that major donor income and relationships are accurately reflected in Womankind’s fundraising database at all times and reconcile income with the Finance team
- Participate in cross-organisational initiatives and groups as willing and required
New business
- Identify and research high quality prospects, maintain appropriate prospecting systems and develop cultivation and solicitation plans working with senior staff and trustees
- Increase major donor income by making face-to-face asks personally and by supporting senior staff and trustees to do the same
- Work with fundraising colleagues to maintain a strong case for support in line with Womankind’s strategy, and package up Womankind’s work to inspire major donors to give
- Develop and test tailored opportunities to give including matched giving and emergency appeals
- Lead a wealth screening project to identify new prospects including managing an external agency to deliver this work
- Lead the establishment and development of a Womankind Fundraising Board
Cultivation and Stewardship
- Work with colleagues across Womankind to deliver engaging donor cultivation events (online and in person) to maintain and grow the support of existing donors and inspire new prospects to give
- Develop and deliver an excellent stewardship programme for major donors including face-to-face meetings and reports
- Work strategically with other members of the Fundraising & Marketing team to ensure a coherent approach between major donors, corporate supporters and individual donors.
Mid-Value Programme
- Work with the Individual Giving Manager to develop a plan for a mid-value donor programme
- Use Raiser’s Edge database to identify mid-value donors and prospects
- Cultivate mid-value donors and prospects through appropriate supporter journeys
Person Specification
Essential experience, skills and knowledge
- Experience of developing and implementing major donor strategy to deliver growth in income
- Experience of identifying new prospects and developing relationships to secure income
- Demonstrable track record of raising funds from a range of major donors including securing gifts in excess of £50,000 and meeting income targets
- Experience of soliciting major gifts face to face
- Experience of producing inspiring and engaging copy for a range of donor communications
- Strong presentation and communication skills with the confidence to deal with a range of stakeholders, senior staff and trustees
- Proven ability to form good working relationships and to motivate and coordinate colleagues across the organisation

Role Context
ALIMA UK is in its start-up phase and is made up of a small team. This period is exciting at times unpredictable. RESPONSIBILITIES
ORGANISATIONAL DEVELOPMENT
- Driving and implementing a varied range of projects that support the smooth set-up of the UK charity, in collaboration with the UK Head of Development
