Having already raised £9.9 million for our Up Against Time Appeal, London’s Air Ambulance Charity is currently in the final phase of our campaign to raise £15million by September 2024 to replace our two helicopters. With six months to go, the team are now looking at the opportunities presented by the new 15 year organisational strategy.
The postholder will provide the programme with the stability, expertise and guidance needed to steer the Major Donor team through the first year of a new strateg. They will also be LAAC’s expert on Major Donor fundraising during this time, developing and inspiring the team to be ambitious and results focused to ensure targets and objectives are met. ROLE
Stella Maris is growing as a charity, in terms of income generation and new programmes of activity around the world. To help support this development, we have created this new important role. The Fundraising & Communications team at Stella Maris comprises about 12 staff members (some full time; some part time). The team and the charity have now reached the point in their evolution where we need to appoint a Major Donor Manager. This post holder will offer excellent stewardship to our existing Major Donors. He/she will also help to identify and cultivate new potential Major Donors from within and outside our existing pool of individual donors. He/she will substantially grow the Major Donor income stream for the charity. He/she will cultivate and steward Major Donors to give in new and more impactful ways, will increase giving levels, will increase the number of Major Donors, and will create lasting and meaningful relationships with our most committed and generous supporters. This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic, motivated and effective Major Donor fundraiser. The postholder will help us, as a leading maritime charity, to achieve our mission to support seafarers, fishers and their families around the world.
MAIN PURPOSE
The Major Donor Manager, reporting into the Director of Development and working with some guidance from the Head of Major Gifts, will maintain and grow a stable pipeline of income from Major Donors. He/she will secure unrestricted and restricted income from a portfolio of Major Donors to support the activities of the Stella Maris network in the UK and overseas. He/she will produce cultivation plans for individual Major Donors, meet them, craft tailored applications and reports for them.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1 Manage relationships with a portfolio of Major Donors in accordance with the Charities fundraising strategy and giving programme activity.
2 Establish individual donor cultivation, engagement and stewardship strategies, ensuring each prospect and existing donor has an appropriate communications and cultivation programme in place.
3 Ensure that donor profiling and research activity is undertaken on existing and potential Major Donors (within data protection regulation guidelines) in order to enhance and develop relations.
4 Identify potential Major Donors from within the Mid-Value Donor portfolio and help graduate them up to Major Donor giving levels.
5 Working with the Governance and Executive team, conduct meetings and visits with individual Major Donors around the UK.
6 Accompany Major Donors on port visits within the UK and possibly abroad.
7 Craft carefully tailored applications, thank you letters and reports for Major Donors.
8 Support other senior staff and stakeholders, such as Trustees, in cultivating relationships with Major Donors by providing research and other information as required, and bringing them to meetings with Major Donors when appropriate.
9 Build and cultivate relationships with intermediaries, e.g. wealth advisers, lawyers.
10 Arrange events for Major Donors.
11 Ensure that all activity is recorded accurately on the charity’s Customer Relationship Management database, and that actions are undertaken in a timely and professional manner.
12 Extract monthly reports on activity levels with Major Donors, e.g. number of contacts, meetings, asks, etc., and circulate this internally to selected senior staff members.

We are looking for a motivated and experienced major gifts fundraiser to join our team as our Senior Philanthropy Manager.
This is a fantastic time to join St Mungo’s as we look to increase awareness of our work and change the homelessness landscape throughout England. In this crucial role, you will lead a team of four to grow income from individuals supporting St Mungo’s work at a transformational level and will help us meet an income target of £2.3 million in 2024-25.
In this role you will:
- Lead a team of four skilled philanthropy fundraisers (with direct management of two) to achieve an ambitious fundraising target.
- Personally manage a portfolio of donors giving at a transformational level.
- Embed strong stewardship and prospecting approaches to maximise opportunities and support the team to develop their portfolios.

Using a helicopter from 08:00 to sunset, and rapid response cars at night or in adverse weather situations, London’s Air Ambulance brings the hospital to the patient when time is critical.
The team, consisting of an advanced trauma doctor, paramedic and consultant on most missions, can perform treatments such as open heart surgery, blood transfusions and general anaesthetic by the roadside. By providing intervention as quickly as possible after injury, their aim is to give patients the best chance of survival, and best quality of life, after trauma.
The fundraising team is in the final stages of their £15m Up Against Time appeal, of which high value played a key part. This role will see the team through the final few months of the appeal, and the subsequent transition to focusing on BAU fundraising.
This role will take over the stewardship of some donors, although the focus will be on leadership of the team and supporting them with their portfolios. You will lead a team of two, Philanthropy Manager (Major Donors) and Philanthropy Officer (Major Donors). Leadership skills are important, although we are open to candidates who have not managed before, or only managed one, who can showcase their transferable skills in this area.
As Senior Major Donor Manager, you will:
- Lead the major donor team, ensuring the programme is in a strong position
- Personally steward a small number of ultra high-value gifts (up to £1M)
- Support the team to deliver on the last few months of the Up Against Time appeal
- Work with the Head of the department to shape a strategy in line with the organisation’s new 15 yr strategy
- Work with the major donor team and prospect research and supporter experience teams to develop a robust pipeline
- Oversee the start of a mid-value programme (£1-5k level)
Ideal skills and experience:
- Significant experience of securing and maintaining relationships with (u)HNWIs, ideally at the £100k+ level

We are thrilled to be partnering with the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity to support the recruitment of a Senior Philanthropy Manager on a permanent basis.
The Royal Marsden Cancer charity raises money solely to support the world-famous Royal Marsden, ensuring nurses, doctors and research teams can provide best in class care and life saving treatments in the UK and around the world. The Charity has recently completed its largest ever capital appeal, raising over £70M to build the Oak Cancer Centre at the Sutton’s Hospital site, with a new appeal to support a major redevelopment project to be launched later this year.
The Philanthropy team at the Royal Marsden works with the Charity’s most generous individual supporters, connecting them to the projects they are most passionate about and ensuring a truly exceptional supporter experience. The Senior Philanthropy Manager will manage a portfolio of existing major donors to secure 6 and 7 figure donations. They will play a significant part in the Charity’s upcoming Capital Appeal, managing key Appeal Board relationships and working closely with senior internal stakeholders to explore new networks, facilitate introductions and secure gifts.
Key duties include:
- Working closely with the Senior Leadership Team and senior hospital colleagues to develop strategic and personalised solicitation and stewardship plans to develop a broad portfolio of donors and prospects in the UK and abroad.
- Identify and build new relationships with individuals with a focus on securing six and seven figure donations in line with agreed targets.
- Lead on the management of senior volunteer relationships to map and identify potential donors and ensure the most effective stewardship.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of the team’s Major Gift strategy.
- Line manage a Philanthropy Executive, ensuring they are well supported with day to day tasks, wider objectives and personal development.
We’re looking for the following skills & experience for this role:
- Extensive major gift fundraising experience, with a strong track record of success and involvement in securing 6-7 figure gifts, either individually or as part of a team.
- An outstanding track record and aptitude for high-value acquisition.
- Experience in identifying, recruiting and managing senior volunteers.
- Significant experience of managing successful relationships with high net worth donors, board members, VIPs and ambassadors.
- A background in fundraising for a major capital project or high-profile appeal.

In partnership with schools, businesses and supporters, we deliver an evidence-based programme of career coaching and 1:1 guidance for young people when they are in Year 10 and 11. This year, we are working with 3,000 young people across Greater London.

About you
Experience
Managing relationships with trusts and foundations, or similar transferable skills from a sales/fundraising background (essential): Experience of applying to and stewarding trusts and foundations to secure 5+ figure gifts over multiple years, and/or similar experience of building relationships to meet income targets.
Identification and cultivation of new business (essential): Experience of independent research and cultivation to develop a pipeline of trusts and foundations, and/or similar experience of generating new business.

The post-holder will also build and manage a pipeline of sustainable income, with a heavy focus on acquisition, supported by the High Value Relationships Lead and Senior Leaders across the organisation.
Mencap is seeking a professional fundraiser with a talent for philanthropy acquisition and securing five-figure+ sums from Major Donors. The ideal candidate will have an ambitious and creative approach to Major Donor fundraising with excellent relationships management abilities and the gravitas and skill to influence and engage cold and warm contacts.
You will have proven experience of building long-term effective relationships with senior stakeholders, both internal and external and of project management and cross-organisational working. Strong written and verbal communication skills will be a must, as well as being a strategic thinker with the ability to convey complex and emotive topics in a clear and compelling way. This role is offered on a permanent basis paying a salary between £46,771 to £48,858 per annum with flexible hybrid or remote working arrangements in the UK.
The post holder is the lead person responsible for developing 38 Degrees Major Gifts approach and strategy together with the CEO. They are responsible for crafting and operationalising the strategy to achieve strong income growth across high-net-worth individuals, foundations, grant giving institutions and their new higher level regular giving supporter group (Avalanche Network). Reporting to the Campaigns Director, the post holder will work to ensure 38 Degrees is able to better sustain its work by leveraging the support of people able to give more, and institutions who provide progressive campaigning organisations like 38 Degrees with financial support to power a movement to change the country for the better.
They are looking for someone with demonstrable experience in working with communities, foundations, and high net worth individuals, and in leading projects that have generated income from fundraising. They are looking for a candidate with demonstrable experience and knowledge in creating plans and strategies for fundraising projects and working with senior management towards strategic income initiatives. The ideal candidate will have an understanding of the political landscape and an ability to apply political knowledge to develop effective fundraising approaches and tactics.
