The Philanthropy Manager is an exciting role within the Philanthropy & Partnerships team which will identify, cultivate and maximise relationships with Major Donors and Family Foundations through research, networking, events, proposals, and excellent stewardship. Securing philanthropic income against target to further the work of the Canal & River Trust.
Knowledge, Skills/Qualifications & Experience
- Identify, cultivate and develop a portfolio of Major Donor and Family Foundation prospects.
- Meet or exceed fundraising targets each year.
- Develop high quality funding proposals, applications and reports for submission to prospects and donors.
- Support the development of the new Major Donor fundraising programme, taking a proactive approach to networking, and cultivating new cold contacts and prospects.
- Support the development and delivery of the Stewardship and Events programme and other Philanthropy processes.
- Depending on experience, may be involved in developing the US fundraising strategy with the support of the Senior Philanthropy Manager, Head of P&P and Director of Fundraising.
- Displaying the Trust values and behaviours at all times.
- Ensuring that diversity and inclusion are integrated into all aspects of Trust life and promoting inclusion by challenging behaviour, practices, actions, or decisions that are counter to the objectives of the Trust’s policies and values.
Experience & Knowledge
- Proven experience of philanthropy fundraising with a track record of initiating new philanthropic relationships.
- Successful track record of meeting or exceeding income targets.
- Experience of identifying and cultivating cold prospects.
- Experience of deepening donor relationships and growing philanthropic giving year on year.
- Thorough knowledge of legal, financial and ethical considerations related to fundraising from Major Donors and Family Foundations.

What's the role about?
As a team player with a positive and diligent approach, you will:
- Look after your own portfolio of donors as well as reaching out to prospects and new donors. - Work closely with your team and wider organisation colleagues to implement solicitation strategies, to secure financial support either by direct solicitation, preparing a written proposal, or working with senior management to make a solicitation.
- Be involved in the development of funding proposals for approved priority projects that will inspire potential donors to secure gifts.
- Contribute to the planning of and participate actively in events (face to face and online) to build relationships with donors and prospects for future income and to demonstrate the impact of gifts already received.

- Be jointly responsible for the planning, writing, production and mailing of Philanthropy Matters, our publication aimed at philanthropic supporters.
- Build effective relationships both within the RSPB and external to it that will enhance its reputation and ultimately secure funding. This includes understanding donors’ wishes and aspirations and identifying links with approved priority projects with the aim of securing substantial gifts.
Essential skills, knowledge and experience:
- Intermediate levels of fundraising as demonstrated by work successes and recognised fundraising courses
- Experience in how to research and cultivate a prospect. And understanding of how to write a cultivation strategy
- Ability to write funding proposals and prepare briefing documents in advance of meetings and events
- Competent in the use of a CRM system (Salesforce), the Microsoft suite, other databases, research tools and methods
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, and the ability to communicate effectively at all levels

Job Purpose and Background Summary
Half of CDP’s income comes through philanthropic and statutory funding. In the first half of 2024, we have an ambitious pipeline of institutional tenders and proposals to deliver on, and we are looking to appoint an additional fixed-term Senior Development Manager to help us deliver on this pipeline and secure funding for our mission. As a Senior Development Manager in CDP’s fast growing Institutional Funding team, you will work with colleagues to conceptualize and develop winning tenders and proposals that will fund cutting-edge work to mitigate climate change and reverse biodiversity loss.
This is a fixed-term role for six months. We are looking to appoint as soon as possible and will be reviewing applications and conducting interviews on a rolling basis.

About the Institutional Funding Team
Our seven-member team leads all aspects of pre-award project management, from opportunity prospecting through to contract signature. We already have a strong track-record delivering annual seven-figure income targets. We now plan to triple our income in the coming years, working with stakeholders including the governments of the United States, Germany, the UK, Norway, the Netherlands, and the European Union, as well as the Global Environment Facility, the United Nations and development finance institutions such as the African and Asian Development Banks.
Key responsibilities include:
- Rapidly develop a working knowledge of CDP’s work, liaising with colleagues to prepare and present high-quality information such as tailored presentations and proposals for donors.
- Lead or supervise the development of institutional funding tenders and proposals, working with colleagues from technical, finance, compliance and monitoring and evaluation departments. In this period, this will specifically include several grant and commercial contract funding opportunities with the UK, US and German governments, and the European Commission.
- Generate and identify funding leads to contribute to the global institutional funding pipeline.
- Work with other development teams, including Philanthropy and Grants Management to develop and implement efficient, effective processes to improve ways of working between teams.

Essential criteria:
- Ability to hit the ground running, rapidly becoming familiar with organization’s processes, writing style, and strategy.
- Proven ability to lead complex, high value tenders or proposals to institutional donors such as USAID, the European Commission, the FCDO, BMZ or others.
- Ability to work with interdisciplinary teams to develop thematic results frameworks and theories of change aligned with institutional donor strategies and practices.
- Experience establishing and managing donor relationships, including research, analysis, engagement, presentation, and influence skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, able to represent CDP’s interests in donor and partner negotiations and persuade stakeholders of the importance of our mission.
- Organized and methodical approach to plan and deliver against a varied workload, managing competing priorities under your own initiative and to strict deadlines.
Desirable criteria
- In-depth experience working with one of the following: US Government (international or domestic); German Government; European Commission; or UK Government commercial con-tracts
- Experience raising institutional funding for work in the fields of climate change mitigation, deforestation, water security, environment and biodiversity, capital markets, trade, data or economic development.
- Experience leading commercial tenders, impact bonds, blended finance and other innovative and complex funding proposals.
- Proven track record of securing grant or contract income at the seven-figure level.
- Experience developing and implementing income generation strategies and performing against financial targets.
- Fluency in a second language other than English (German would be particularly useful)

Reporting to the Head of Development, the Development Manager will take an active role in building a robust and sustainable major donor and corporate fundraising programme to help us expand our work across the UK over the coming years. - Manage the Choir with No Name supporter database (eTapestry) ensuring donor data is kept up to date and is accurate.
- Work with the finance and data administrator to produce accurate and timely monthly donation reports for our bookkeeper.
General
- Contribute to the annual fundraising strategy, alongside the Head of Development and CEO.
- Develop a robust fundraising pipeline and stewardship plan to generate sustainable income in line with our targets and strategy.
- Evaluate fundraising activities, embedding a test and learn approach across all projects.
- Produce accurate and timely reports for funders and Trustees.
- Ensure donation data is accurately recorded in accordance with data protection regulations.

The Role
Reporting to the Senior Corporate Partnerships Manager, the Corporate Partnerships Manager will generate income and impact for the Stroke Association by identifying and winning new partnerships with businesses that have an affinity to our cause.
There will also be an opportunity to manage and uplift some of our existing partnerships, helping to ensure that we’re optimising every opportunity with our warmest supporters, driving greater engagement, commitment and income.
This role will be predominantly focused on business development and will involve regular travel. Key responsibilities will include:
· Securing individual income target and contribute to the overall team target
· To research companies and develop proposals, applications, and pitches
· To work with the Senior Corporate Manager to establish a clear and prioritised list of target companies whose values and objectives align with the Stroke Association’s, ensuring timely and appropriate approaches with the support of relevant departments.
· Potential to personally manage partnerships once business has been secured, with the possibility of taking on management of existing partnerships to help grow and uplift the value they deliver.
· To sell in fundraising products to potential partners, often on a cold calling basis, and to contribute creative fundraising ideas to help the Corporate Partnerships team develop new fundraising product ideas for proposals, applications and pitches
About You
We need someone with creativity and flair. Someone who can marshal emotions, facts and figures to help us put stroke on the map. An ability to influence both internal and external stakeholders to articulate the value of corporate partnerships to all parties will be crucial.
You will have a proven track record of:
· Securing and/or managing partnerships (in the charitable or private sector) worth £6-figure+ sums across a variety of income streams e.g. strategic, Charity of the Year, sponsorship
· Making successful cold approaches to potential supporters/clients
· Partnership delivery including experience of deepening and broadening partnerships to increase their meaningfulness and longevity

Background and role purpose
Consortium hosts the largest network of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans + groups, projects and organisations in the UK (600 members) and offers a range of support so that they can deliver vital support and services to over 5 million LGBT+ people, their friends and families. We are also a specialist grant funder, having provided over £1.75m in grants since 2019, across 275 awards, with this being an exciting area of growth falling within the remit of this role.
We are recruiting for a Head of Partnerships and Development who will support our charity, and the LGBT+ sector, to continue growth in an appropriate and sustainable way. We are seeking an excellent relationship builder who can help us maximise our ability to generate positive social impact through relationship-building and fundraising skills.
As Head of Partnerships & Development you will be responsible for managing key business partnerships, identifying new potential income streams (for Consortium & the LGBT+ sector), and exploring opportunities to increase the impact of our work.
You will devise creative and innovative strategies including campaigns with partners, liaising with corporate contacts and building and developing relationships with new key stakeholders.
You will provide line management and support to the existing Partnerships and Development team of 5 team members (LGBT+ Fund Development Manager; Grants Officer; Communications Officer; 2 National LGBT Heath Partnership Officers). We adopt a collaborative approach across the team, so there are opportunities to actively engage with others across the entire team so we can maximise the impact we have as a charity.

About the role
