Harington is an Ofsted registered specialist college based in North London rated good, working with around 52 young people with learning differences aged 16-25. Our mission is to create an inclusive environment, that delivers outstanding personalised education, learning, and support, which leads to further education, employment opportunities, and a fulfilling life for each of our students.  

We specialise in horticulture, retail and general employability. Our students undertake individualised learning programmes and supported internships that lead to vocational qualifications and achieving other aims. We support the wellbeing of our young people through providing mentoring, counselling, enrichment and other one-to-one support.

Our charity has two learning centres in Highgate and Hornsey. We also operate a gardening business and two charity shops, providing income for our charity, work experience placements for our students and employment for 14 young people. We work with local employers and partners to provide work experience and other opportunities for our students. 

The Role 

We’re looking for a senior fundraiser who is a skilled writer, a strong partnership builder and someone with a passion to improve the outcomes of young people with learning differences. This is a new post and you will have an opportunity to shape the role.

The person 

The role will suit someone who has had some prior experience in successfully raising funds ideally from trusts and foundations and/or from community fundraising. You are IT savvy and know how to use social media to grow an audience and design materials to effectively communicate a good cause. You are open to learning and to sharing your creativity and skills with others. 

Essential skills 

You will have:-

• 18-24 months of prior fundraising experience 

• Experience of successfully prospecting for, preparing and managing fundraising bids and stewarding funder/commissioner relationship 

• Knowledge of the charity sector, funders and funding environment 

• Excellent communication skills with an ability to present complex information in a clear and compelling narrative 

• Great organisational skills

Key accountabilities and responsibilities

• Create and edit compelling and innovative social media content optimised against a range of objectives, including the production of graphics and video
• Work closely with cross-directorate teams to develop and implement impactful social campaign strategies, ensuring appropriate messaging and content for specific audiences, channels and placements
• Provide full community management across channels on a rota
• Work with people living with dementia to champion their voices through powerful storytelling
• Support the Senior Social Media Manager to embed social media strategy
• Develop and deliver guidance and training to colleagues across all areas relevant to successful social activity, ensuring information is easy to understand for a non-digital audience
• Run paid social activity aligning with strategic team objectives and manage associated budgets
• Use analytics tools to report back on the performance of day-to-day and campaign-focused social activity, making recommendations to address gaps and optimise performance
• Identify trends and develop insights into user activity from relevant data sources to inform our ongoing approach
• Manage projects as directed by the Senior Social Media Manager

About you

The Senior Accountant (Financial Control) post can be based in either the London or Manchester office. This role is in the central Financial Accounting and Control Team (FACT). In addition to being DCMS’ financial accounting Centre of Excellence, the team leads in the production of the consolidated accounts of the DCMS Group (with 34 of its 42 Arms Length Bodies directly consolidated) and manages the National Lottery Distribution Fund. The team is the hub for all financial operational and control functions including treasury management, VAT, purchase to pay support and manages the relationship with DCMS’ shared services provider. The DCMS Finance team is relatively small and this provides opportunities for development not always found in a bigger department.

Key responsibilities of the Senior Accountant (Financial Control) will include:

• Management and delivery of robust financial policies, controls, processes and systems.
• Management of the core department’s key finance system (Integra) and the relationship with the department’s shared service provider.
• Overseeing the payment process for suppliers via Purchase to Pay (P2P), including prompt payment monitoring and reporting.
• Lead on the preparation of the DCMS core accounts.
• Leading the audit of the Core Department and ensuring all necessary documentation is available to the National Audit Office.
• Provision of sound technical advice on complex accounting, taxation and budgeting issues to a wide range of stakeholders.
• Ensuring that the Department’s financial systems, cash management and cash forecasting regimes run securely, smoothly and efficiently.
• Key influencer in the Matrix cross-departmental cluster to drive decision making for the new Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system which DCMS will be an early adopter of.
• Leadership and line management (including recruitment, development and training) of 3 direct staff and task management/close collaboration with 2 other staff members within the wider team.

The successful Senior Accountant (Financial Control) will have:

• Qualified financial accountant (CCAB, CIMA or equivalent) with demonstrable post qualifying experience in a large finance team
• Experience of preparing (or auditing) accounts in conformity with relevant accounting standards
• Experience of managing or using financial systems and advanced knowledge of Excel
• Be an excellent communicator, able to explain complex ideas both verbally and written
• Proven ability to work as part of a team delivering at pace in a fast-moving environment
• External audit background (desirable)

The Role

This is an exciting time to join the Harington, as we have recently appointed a new Principal/CEO. We want to ensure that the Harington is able to fulfil and secure its mission to benefit our young people, both now and into the future.

In the next year we will consolidate what we do well and seek to strengthen the areas where we could do better. The Interim COO will work with all stakeholders and closely with the Principal/CEO to review, plan and implement the necessary changes. The role is initially for 9 months, but it is anticipated that it will continue after the initial review and planning period.  

This Interim Chief Operating Officer role will:-

1)Support the development and implementation of the strategic plan and through the annual Operations Plan and Budget, and be responsible for measuring and evaluating progress against goals and targets

2)Drive excellence and efficiency across Finance, HR, Governance, Operations, and IT, strengthening and embedding the right policies, systems, processes, technology and infrastructure ensuring seamless execution and robust management of risk.

3)Manage our three commercial businesses (two charity shops and Harington Gardeners) so they meet our social, learning and business aims

4)Oversee Harington’s fundraising so we secure the income we need from trusts and foundations, individual donors and community fundraising

5)Ensure effective management of the buildings and estate of a multi-site organisation, and the support services required to provide a suitable and safe environment for learning and working, that meets the required health and safety standards

6) Ensure that all staff feel valued and supported, with effective management of staff, operations and administration

 You are an exceptional senior leader that is passionate about achieving the best outcomes for young people with learning differences.

ROLE OVERVIEW

Working closely in a small and dedicated team, this is a critical position that will ensure the recruitment, engagement and progression of women who take part in our empowerment programmes. 

Location: SHED co-working space for 2 days a week or at venues in London for our core programme with women and option to work remotely 1 day a week 

Salary: £22,800 for 3 days a week (£38,000 FTE) plus a 5.25% staff pension subject to employee contribution of 1.75% 

Hours: Normal working hours are 9:30am-5:30pm

The primary purpose of this role is to ensure:

• Effective outreach for recruitment onto our programmes
• That women’s programmes run smoothly and that their participants are motivated and supported to complete them through to graduation
• That those women who require 1-1 time with you are provided with this to ensure their safety and to make any referrals to external agencies where required
• All those we work with for the benefit of women on the programmes are engaged eg. short work placement hosts, mentors and venues for activities
• That evaluation data is collected and provided to evaluators/ researchers who edit final annual reports for programmes
• All data is kept accurate, appropriate and secure

KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Timetabling online and face-to-face outreach to ensure women are recruited onto programmes in a timely way
• Being the key safeguarding lead at Friday workshops and ensuring that you make 1-1 time for any women who require it (alerting the Head of Operations and People and the CEO and wider team any issues or concerns that need addressing)
• Liaising with the Programmes Coordinator on the timely production of workshop materials and any other course content useful for participants
• Maintaining excellent relationships with workshop providers
• Ensuring that the Programmes Coordinator is across needs for any 1-1 therapy referrals between women and our float of freelance therapists
• Conducting evaluation surveys with women at the start, end and 6 months after they graduate and ensuring all evaluation data is provided to the freelancer responsible for collating the impact of our programmes annually in a final report, as well as providing any data required by the CEO for grant reports
• Signing off on mentor-mentee matches with the Partnerships Manager who recruits mentors
• Working closely with the Partnerships Manager to ensure they are across which kinds of short expenses/ paid work placements with employers women want to access

PERSON SPECIFICATION

You will be someone who is naturally warm/ a people person, compassionate and enabling, and who also has fantastic project management/ organisational skills. You may come from a senior youth worker background or other front line organisations working with young vulnerable adults.

Essential:

• Substantial senior experience working with young, including vulnerable, adults
• Proven track record of project/ programme management experience to deliver successful learning/ educational events/ activities for young people
• Creative thinker with experience of conducting successful outreach for young people
• Experience of safeguarding with vulnerable individuals
• Exceptional people and relationship-building skills with those from a range of different backgrounds eg ranging from young women for our programmes to employers and other stakeholders who engage with our work and participants

SHP Westminster Floating Support Service is funded by Westminster Borough to provide holistic, dynamic support to residents of Westminster. The aim of the service is to assist vulnerable residents to sustain their accommodation and access appropriate services to enable them to maintain independence and lead fulfilling lives.      

About the role:

As the Floating Support Team Manager, you will join an experienced management team to help ensure the delivery of effective and person-centred support services.

You will support the management team to ensure the service is running effectively and the team feel well supported and empowered to undertake their roles. You will monitor quality and the effectiveness of the support services by conducting regular supervisions and supporting with the data collection for reporting purposes.

You will also develop and maintain effective working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders including Clients, Community Mental Health Teams, Housing, Adult Social Care with the aim of promoting collaboration.

• An Understanding of how to provide effective staff management and demonstrable ability to manage staff performance and motivate staff members to perform effectively.

About us

Housing Justice is a Christian charity working to alleviate homelessness in all its forms. We are a friendly and flexible organisation looking for a compassionate leader for our team in Wales. As a bi-national charity we work in partnership with the housing and homelessness sector, refugee and asylum sector, churches, community groups, UK Government, Welsh Government and local government to help provide those experiencing homelessness with a safe and stable home. 

Our work is channelled through a range of initiatives that aim to tackle homelessness in various ways at a grassroots level: Faith in Affordable Housing, Hosting people seeking sanctuary, Citadel, Support for people from Ukraine, and The Winter Night Shelter Network in England. Housing Justice Cymru is at the centre of the Housing sector in Wales and since 2021 we have played a pivotal role in the refugee and asylum sector, leading partnerships in support of the Wales Nation of Sanctuary commitment.

We have an office in London and the Wales Director will travel to London regularly for meetings. This is estimated at an average of once a month. The Wales team is remote and home-based. About the role

The role of the Director for Wales is to lead the team and the development of the work of Housing Justice throughout Wales. The Director is responsible for ensuring resilient funding for the delivery of existing projects and to develop projects in line with the strategic plan, growing the Charity’s reach to meet homelessness and housing need. They will be a key member of the Senior Management team nationally, developing and spearheading the broader strategic work of Housing Justice. 

About you

We are looking for a self-motivated, committed person ideally with experience of working in the homelessness, housing or charity sectors. We would like someone with excellent leadership skills, who understand the importance of wellbeing and involvement. 

The skills needed for the role include effective partnership working, business planning, project management and service delivery across multiple functions, as well as financial management skills including budgeting and delivery of cost and income targets.

New Routes Integration

Since 2003 New Routes has been working with, and supporting, refugees, asylum seekers and isolated migrants in Norwich to support their wellbeing and ambitions by providing skill-building and social programmes in a safe and welcoming environment. We promote cross-cultural integration and community awareness, working with individuals and families from over 60 countries of origin. We work closely with an extensive network of partner organisations, both third-sector and statutory. New Routes is one-third of the Norwich Integration Partnership (NIP), alongside English+ and the Bridge Plus+.

 Principle purpose of the post:

The Operations Manager will work closely with the Chief Executive supporting on contractual service delivery (including the management of risk), quality and improvement across the organisation and ensure quality services are provided. This will be informed and implemented by ensuring that our participants have appropriate methods to inform programme delivery routinely. 

The Operations Manager will support the Chief Executive in leading and monitoromg service and organisational quality, financial/income activity and expenditure, adherence to policies and procedures, and overall compliance with health and safety activity through a range of measures, including the use of reports and data to make critical and informed assessments.

The Operations Manager will be responsible for developing and implementing the Fundraising Strategy in order to diversify our funding streams enabling New Routes to develop exceptional services that meet our participants existing and emerging needs.

In conjunction with the Chief Executive, the Operations Manager will hold responsibility for ensuring all staff are effectively supported to undertake their roles, and will administer formal HR policies and procedures when standards fall below expectations.

The Operations Manager will provide support and deputise for the Chief Executive when required.  The postholder will be expected to demonstrate a high ability to be pro-active in anticipating and managing their workload, and work without high levels of direction.
