The Ethical Property Foundation is the only dedicated property advice charity serving the UK voluntary sector. We support over 450 voluntary organisations p.a. with expert and independent property advice and education. We are currently seeking one or more self-employed Chartered Surveyors (or with an equivalent professional qualification), to augment our team and specifically, to assist us in delivering our affordable consultancy.
We are particularly looking for surveyors with an ability to think and report strategically or offer specialisms such as building surveying and planning.
Our Associate Property Advisers are all extraordinary people: senior property professionals. As part of this team, you will be assigned projects to lead on or supporting other members. You will use your communication skills to gain the trust of our clients, many of whom support vulnerable people in challenging circumstances, and empower them to expand their property knowledge and confidence. You will use your wide knowledge of the property sector to investigate/analyse client issues and develop suitable options and solutions. The projects you will deliver include property health checks, feasibility studies, options appraisals & development of client property strategies. Average project time allocation: between 4 – 5 days. There may be opportunities to deliver webinar training too.
Our clients support every kind of good cause and are responsible for every type of property. In the last 12 months, besides conventional office premises, we have advised on: church buildings, oast houses, former schools, industrial units, fields, warehouses, libraries, theatres, and mills.
Location: Flexible working from home. Projects will include client site visits in England, Wales and Scotland.
Day Rate: £220

Purpose of role
The Director of Development and Communications plays a pivotal leadership role in steering the organization's direction, requiring a unique blend of strategic communication skills and advanced fundraising expertise. Managing a $3 million budget primarily sourced from progressive foundations and a modest individual donor program, this role oversees a multifaceted communications and fundraising strategy to enhance the organization's visibility and narrative across diverse audiences, including donors, activists, and human rights advocates.
Leading a team, the Director of Development and Communications navigates challenges and opportunities while shaping the organization's future revenue landscape amidst ongoing strategic initiatives and exploration of alternative income sources. The ideal candidate will implement and oversee communications plans that advance Women’s Link Worldwide’s objectives and ensure effective delivery of its goals against the organization’s strategy.
The Director of Development and Communications will play a pivotal role in managing existing foundation relationships. Additionally, they will oversee and enhance a substantial one-time windful gift, leveraging the funding to expand Women's Link Worldwide's impact across East Africa, Latin America, the Caribbean, and Europe. This donation not only strengthens WLW's financial support but also has the potential to bolster feminist leadership and address systemic fundraising inequalities by challenging oppressive structures. By maximizing the grant's potential, the Director will play a crucial part in advancing the organization's mission.
Primary responsibilities
Leadership and Strategy
· Work with the Executive Director to bring strategic assessment, planning, institutional positioning, and fundraising issues forward to the Board of Directors.
· Advance the Executive Director’s and Leadership Team’s understanding of large-scale field level trends, movements, and shifts so that they may be reflected in strategy and direction.
· Coordinate with colleagues to ensure alignment of long-range strategy, positioning, and fundraising within the functional priorities of the organization.
· Support the Executive Director and the Chair in recruitment needs.
· Support the Board of Directors in managing their calendar and annual work plan.
Management of People and Resources
· Guide the creation and supervision of project teams composed of WLW staff and/or consultants, and others as needed.
· Supervise work, professional development, and training of fundraising and communications staff.
· Develop and foster collaborative relationships with partner organizations, legal services, providers, and law firms.
· Plan and oversee budgets for fundraising and communications activities.
Fundraising
· Provide executive management all fundraising activities from private donors and foundations. Ensure the optimized use of budgets and people to maximize revenue while maintaining a sustainable balance between different income streams.
· Create and monitor a budget that optimizes and expands the overall yield and efficiency of the fundraising department and ensures a sustainable balance of different revenue sources.
· Increase the amount and percentage of Women's Link Worldwide unrestricted income.
· Sustain and expand an annual giving initiative designed to strengthen the pipeline for support of the major gift program.
· Work with the Executive Director and CFO to develop and build new revenue streams.
· Provides guidance to the team on the monitoring system to review key performance indicators and ensure effective and efficient management.
· Present strategic evaluations, planning, institutional positioning, and fundraising concerns to the Executive Director.
· Nurture strong connections with donors while spearheading the team in fostering strategic partnerships and alliances.
· Enhance the proficiency of both staff and the Board to actively participate in fundraising endeavors.
· Stay current on global fundraising strategies and trends and adapt as necessary.
Institutional Communications
· Guides communications team in developing a cutting-edge brand and identity rooted in intersectional feminism, anti-racism, and anti-colonialism, ensuring clear and cohesive communication both internally and externally.
· Oversee the strategy to advance the identity, position and brand of the organization through communications, marketing, institutional partnerships, and other mechanisms. This includes visual brand strategy including overseeing the design maintenance of the organizational website, publications, and social media.
· Ensure alignment and mutual reinforcement of strategy and resources with institutional communications efforts and fundraising and programmatic efforts.
· Oversees the annual institutional communications plan with measurable objectives and indicators.
· Advance positioning and role of the Executive Director and the Board.
· Lead the development of tools and training for staff to support a consistent and powerful organizational image and messaging.
· Manage an organizational communication team (and/or consultants).

We are looking for an individual to join the Grants Team on an interim basis for paternity cover to help support the development and delivery of the Rothschild Foundation’s grants programmes. As a Grants Manager you will help us to identify, assess and manage grants across our funding programmes.
We manage two open access application programmes in Buckinghamshire and a wider UK programme of grant-making where we pro-actively identify organisations to work with in our areas of interest. These include culture and regenerative food systems, connecting with activity at Waddesdon Manor and Estate, the home of the Foundation. The Grants Manager role will have a particular focus on our regenerative food and farming programme, where we are funding direct delivery organisations, as well as convening stakeholders and other funders championing a sustainable approach.
We aim to be an approachable funder focused on developing strong relationships with the organisations that we fund. A big part of the role will be developing relationships with a wide range of third sector organisations and supporting them to deliver effective approaches to community needs and issues within our areas of interest.
We value the balance in our funding approach of flexibly responding to local need alongside a deep dive into the specific interests of Trustees. This combination makes the Foundation an interesting and progressive place to work and we welcome individuals with a flexible and creative approach. The current annual budget for our grants programmes is approx. £8M.
We are very happy to be able to offer flexible working with the option of part remote and part office based. Currently we ask the team to be office based on Wednesdays and as a Grants Manager we’d expect other working days to include a mixture of visiting applicants and grantees and working from home. Key Responsibilities:
Grant Programme Management
- Developing opportunities for funding by identifying and visiting applicants, supporting them to work up proposals and ensuring they meet our due diligence requirements.
- Building effective relationships with applicants and grantees, including providing constructive feedback on applications and monitoring funded activity.
- Managing external consultants and contacts in the community who are responsible for delivering projects or coordinating networks which further our ambitions in regenerative food and farming.
- Working with the Grants Team to undertake research and keep up to date with developments in the current areas of interest and future interests of Trustees, helping develop current programmes and shape future strategy. This ideally will include some understanding of regenerative food and farming systems and identifying effective organisations and approaches to support.
- Supporting evaluation of the Foundation’s grants programmes and working with the team’s Evaluation and Impact Manager (to be appointed) to develop our approach to measuring and sharing impact. This will include use of our newly developed theory of change, reviewing grantee reports and collated data.
- Producing updates for Trustees on strategic progress, including project updates and some data analysis, as well as thinking about other creative ways to tell the stories of our funding.
Networking and Advocacy
- Working closely with staff at Waddesdon Manor and on the Waddesdon Estate.
- Representing the Foundation at relevant events, networks and groups, such as the Buckinghamshire Rural Forum, Natural Environment Partnership and Bucks Funders Group which may include occasional evening events.
- Devising and delivering ways to increase the reach and accessibility of our grant-making.
Communications
- Working with the Grants Team on the Foundation’s annual grants review, website, newsletter and social media.
Special Projects
- Project management support for internally managed projects such as research and events.
IT
- Working with the Foundation’s IT systems (including Microsoft Office suite, Blackbaud database and SharePoint). We are able to offer training in Blackbaud, and SharePoint if needed and are open to discussing other training needs.

This is a new role that will lead both our institutional fundraising and influencing work. This role will be responsible for raising significant funds from a range of institutional funders. This role will also lead on the development of a new influencing strategy to inspire funders and organisations in the disability and development sector, to increase funding for disability justice and to fund organisations led by people with disabilities directly.
Finally, this role will also ensure excellent stewardship of our existing strategic investments and partnerships.

- Proven comprehension of fire safety laws, relevant technical standards, guidance documents, codes of practice, and practical fire safety management.
- Proficient in intermediate IT skills, encompassing Microsoft/Office 365 Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, and familiarity with cloud-based storage systems, with delegated access to emails and calendars.
- Capable of analysing fire risks and devising appropriate, often technical or intricate, mitigating or control measures with minimal need for referral.
