This is a new role for the Circuit, replacing a volunteer. In designing the position, the Circuit has aimed for maximum flexibility to secure the best candidate for the role. Initially, the person will need physically to attend some meetings to familiarise themselves with the Circuit's operations and ensure a smooth hand-over. For the right person, though, there will be considerable flexibility about how the duties are fulfilled in the longer-term. It is specifically expected that the role will allow for flexible scheduling to accommodate other responsibilities, including caring.
The Richmond & Hounslow Circuit comprises seven churches in southwest London. As with all Methodist circuits, these churches function autonomously yet collaborate closely in their ministry and mission efforts. The Circuit oversees joint resources, including staff and property. Presently, it employs four full-time ordained ministers, one full-time lay pastor, and a part-time administrator. As a part of the Methodist Church, its mission is “to respond to the gospel of God’s love in Christ and to live out its discipleship in worship and mission”. To fulfil this mission, the Circuit fosters a broad spectrum of ministry within its congregations, focusing on worship but also engaging in outreach to the homeless, asylum seekers, new parents, and various other groups. Summary of the role:

• To provide information and advice to older people and their carers on matters of social welfare, housing, health and social care etc
. • To triage and allocate referrals for the advice team ensuring that referrals for case work are appropriate and within the scope of our service.
• To provide information, advice and support to older people and their carers enabling them to access services and remain independent.
• To carry out welfare benefit calculations.
• To maintain accurate case records to Advice Quality Standard and in line with relevant legislation.
• To support all Age UK East London Advice Services to manage demand.
• To maintain a welcoming reception area and ensure all resources and information are up to date
• External representation at meetings with key stakeholders.
General
•To meet regularly with line manager for support, supervision and appraisal.
•To attend team and staff meetings, (and other meetings) as required.
•To undertake any other duties within the competence of the post holder as may be required from time to time for the continued smooth running of Age UK East London.
•To undertake all training required to fulfil the role.
•To carry out the duties of the post in accordance with Age UK’s East London’s policies and procedures including EDI, Health & Safety, Confidentiality, Complaints, GDPR, Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults.

Age UK Richmond upon Thames are a local independent charity supporting older people across the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames. We provide a wide range of useful and well utilised services designed to improve wellbeing and enhance independence. Our friendly and committed team of 45 staff and 100+ volunteers support around 4,000 local older people each year.
We have created this new role within the charity, as we look to the future. The population of Richmond upon Thames is expected to continue to grow older over coming years. New generations of older people will have different needs and expectations for us to respond to in partnership. Our local health & social care partners will need us to find new ways of providing support that will reduce pressure on them. We will also need to adapt to a more challenging financial environment. This challenging but rewarding new position has been created to help us respond to some of these challenges and opportunities.
We are looking for an excellent communicator, strategic thinker and relationship builder with significant development experience. A proactive, flexible and positive approach is also essential, with a keen interest in improving the lives of older people at a local level.
