About the role
Hither Green Service (Spring Gardens and Hilda House) is a busy, flagship service which provides you with the opportunity to join a specialised and committed team using a trauma-informed approach, supporting 68, multiple excluded, highly vulnerable adults with complex needs in Lewisham.
We are looking for someone to join our team as a Support Worker (known internally as a Project Worker). In this vital role you will:
- Work together with clients to identify their personal aims and ambitions and support them towards achieving them.
- Respond to incident and crises as a team in a way that maximises safety and wellbeing.
- Provide practical and personal support to clients in an approachable, caring and person centred way.
- Work as part of a dedicated team in an accommodation setting to provide a high quality, positive and safe service to clients.
- Keep up to date administrative records relating to client work, housing management and health and safety.
- Work on the weekly shift rota that includes early and late shifts as well as some weekends and bank holidays.
About you
To succeed in these highly rewarding role you will have;
- An understanding of the issues faced by homeless or vulnerably housed people – you may have had personal experience of homelessness yourself.
- Experience of helping vulnerable people to identify personal goals and supporting them through a process of change.
- A sound understanding of the support needs of people with low incomes, including rent payments/arrears and professional boundary issues.
- Good interpersonal and listening skills, in order to be able to establish an effective working relationship with clients and an eagerness to learn and work with clients in a holistic and person-centred approach.
- The ability to support colleagues in diffusing difficult or dangerous situations and to summon outside assistance when necessary.
- The skills to challenge disruptive or unacceptable behaviour in a sympathetic and assertive way, balancing the needs of the individual with responsibilities for the safety of the service.

The Carers Information Service was established in 1997 and is part of the John Whitgift Foundation. We are a small, friendly team dedicated to providing free advice, information and support to carers in Croydon.
Offering a wide range of services including health and wellbeing activities, carer's assessments, respite care, bereavement support, digital and printed publications, meeting room hire and much more. We are supported by Croydon Council and work closely with colleagues across the borough from the voluntary and community sector, NHS, and local authority.
As an Advice and Assessment Worker your main responsibilities will be to focus on the Carers Assessment Service in line with the John Whitgift Foundation, Croydon Council and Care Act requirements. This will also include giving advice, information and support to adult carers who are looking after a relative, partner, friend or neighbour of someone who needs help due to illness, disability, or old age.
Based in the ground floor drop-in service at the Carers Support Centre, alongside other Advice Workers, you will provide this service via email, telephone, online and face-to-face. The ability to work well in a team is essential!
This role is for 35 hours per week.

Job Purpose
This role is within our crisis alternative service Safe Space - an out of hours service providing a safe and welcoming space for people who are feeling distressed and experiencing crisis. The service operates 365 days a year from 12:00pm (midday) - 11:30pm across all of our boroughs. The role will consist of two shift patterns to ensure the service is covered: 11:30am-6:30pm and 4:30-11:30pm. This will be on a rota basis across support workers.
Staff within the service will provide person-centred, practical and emotional support, face to face or via telephone on a one-to-one or group basis to individuals experiencing mental health crisis. This will consist of 1:1 support; de-escalating and providing interventions, signposting for specialised or longer-term support, and delivering collaborative self-management plans with clients to improve mental wellbeing. The aim of this service is to de-escalate and prevent further crises.
The objectives of the service include:
- To improve the mental wellbeing of people experiencing mental health crisis in HFEH.
- To provide support to clients accessing the service- for instance: signposting, de-escalation, planned wellbeing activities etc.
- To contribute to an improvement in individual mental wellbeing.
- To remain a source of independent support for all clients.
- To treat service users with respect, dignity and personalised support
- To raise awareness of mental health services available with the goal to improve long term mental health and reduce social isolation
- To increase self-management skills of those accessing the service
- To reduce the use of police, ambulance and statutory mental health services whilst experiencing crisis.
- To reduce the use of statutory crisis services by people experiencing mental ill health without positive outcomes for the individual.
The Role
The role of the support workers will be to support the rest of the team in delivering interventions on a one-to-one and group basis. The role will also involve triaging and assessing all clients accessing the service, signposting and delivering collaborative self-management plans with clients to improve mental wellbeing.

Peer Support Worker
£27,344 – £29,439, depending on skills and experience

The Peer Support Service operates alongside other clinical and wellbeing services to provide formalised peer support for people living with common and complex mental health needs and complex emotional needs, including personality disorder.
The service compliments and collaborates with NHS Peer Support Workers and is delivered from community-based locations and NHS Hubs across Kensington and Chelsea and Westminster to help people regain control over their lives, shaped by their own unique recovery process.
The role involves experiential sharing, connecting relationships and community building to deliver a range of peer support activities, including one to one peer support, peer support groups, training and workshops.
The successful candidate will have:
· Personal lived experience of recovery and living well with a mental health condition
· Knowledge of recovery focused approaches in mental health and trauma informed practice
· Proven experience of delivering peer support
· Knowledge and experience of common and complex mental health conditions, including complex emotional needs and personality disorder
· Experience of working with diverse communities
· Knowledge and experience of Safeguarding procedures

Night Support Workers enable people with particular needs to manage their tenancies and live independent lives of their choosing in the community. Night Support Workers are responsible for ensuring continuity of a support service at night and for keeping customers and the building safe.

What you'll do:
Building supportive, trusting relationships with customers and creating a positive atmosphere
Working proactively with other members of the team to handle the service caseload and administrative responsibilities
Conducting key work sessions as required, that are innovative and engaging in order to achieve Support Plan goals
Ensuring ongoing assessment and management of risks associated with customers within an attitude of 'positive risk taking'
Providing support with daily living activities, including practical assistance to support customers to independent living e.g. budgeting, cooking, establishing a night time routine
Supporting customers to maintain a healthy environment and where appropriate assisting them to clean their accommodation and maintain good personal hygiene
Assisting in the recording and reporting of customer incidents
Managing customer referrals, completing assessments and obtaining and maintaining all relevant paperwork
Developing productive relationships with partner organisations to improve service outcomes
Adhering to lone working protocols and maintaining high levels of awareness in relation to the health and safety of yourself and colleagues
Involving customers in the design, development and delivery of the service
Ensuring Look Ahead Health and Safety policies and local protocols are adhered to at all times e.g. fire risk assessments, fire alarm checks etc.
Taking on shift leading responsibilities by coordinating and leading shifts in the absence of a manager
Being responsible for the handover of key information between shifts
Adhering to all other Look Ahead's policies and procedures
Engaging in learning and development activity to increase knowledge and skills
Undertaking any other duties consistent with the grade and nature of the post as assigned by the Service Manager/Deputy Manager

Support Worker - Housing and Homelessness (Sanctuary Emergency Accommodation)
Salary: £24,745 per annum

About the role
The purpose of this role is to provide crucial support to enable the life changing service we provide for women who have survived trafficking, exploitation and other forms of violence. The role will provide support to the Service Manager, line management to volunteers and high quality casework support to survivors living in our safe house accommodation. The postholder will need to demonstrate a person-centred approach to ensure the provision of an excellent aftercare service
for survivors.
The postholder will have significant experience of providing practical and emotional support to survivors.
