Let us tell you a little bit about the role....

You’ll be part of a busy national press office, leading on high-profile proactive and reactive national stories, providing expert communications advice to senior colleagues and contributing to the development of strategic communication plans. 
Reporting to the Media Manager as part of a small team of senior media advisers, you will have the unique opportunity to influence the narrative around adult social care and be a driver for change in one of the most important issues facing our society.

What we're looking for from you... 

You will be someone with significant experience of working in a national press office, who thrives in a fast-moving environment, has strong news sense and excellent writing skills.

You must be comfortable and confident briefing and advising senior people and be unafraid to challenge and do things differently.

You will have an eye for detail and be able to identify risks while never losing sight of the bigger picture and your role in driving forward organisational aims.

Accountabilities

- Lead on the delivery of national media relations to support CQC’s regulation of adult social care, as well as providing advice to senior members of staff and contributing to other communications projects
- Build and maintain relationships across key media journalists and outlets, stakeholders and staff to support the delivery an effective media strategy for the organisation and ensure that its priorities, purpose and impact are understood
- Provide calm and measured responses to time-critical situations, understanding when to escalate to ensure their resolution
- Prepare well-written materials including press releases, statements, internal briefings, communications plans and project evaluations to agreed deadlines and specifications
- Respond flexibly and proactively to time-critical changes in priorities
- Keep up to date with the changing external context in which CQC works  and understand tis regulatory model and the impact media can have on its success
- Participate in out-of-hours rota to ensure a 24-hour media service for the organisation.
- Contribute to the media team’s social media offer
- Have the appropriate knowledge, skills and experience to actively promote diversity and equality of opportunity, treat everyone with dignity and respect and avoid unlawful discrimination

Specific Skills and Experience

- Experience of leading on projects within a press office environment and as part of team
- Educated to degree-level standard or equivalent
- Experience of planning and delivering high-profile national stories
- Experience of working on multiple projects simultaneously and responding positively to change
- Experience in crisis management
- Experience in advising senior staff on media relations tactics, opportunities and issues
- Experience of utilising media evaluation metrics
- Experience of using multimedia platforms, including social media in a professional capacity
- Excellent writing, proof-reading and editing skills
- Computer literate – including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook, as well as media management software and social media
- Excellent relationship-building and networking skills , including the ability to provide advice and guidance at all levels
- Ability to be decisive and to analyse information, including policy documents and statistics, in order to make decisions and develop key messages
- High level of organisational, self-motivation and reasoning skills
