Job description

There are currently over 850,000 people living with dementia in the UK, and this is expected to increase to 1 million by 2021, and 2 million by 2050.

In response to this, Dementia UK provides specialist dementia support for families through our Admiral Nurse service. When things get challenging or difficult for people with dementia and their families, Admiral Nurses work alongside them, giving the one-to-one support, expert guidance and practical solutions that people need. The unique dementia expertise and experience an Admiral Nurse brings is a lifeline – it helps everyone in the family to live more positively with dementia in the present, and to face the challenges of tomorrow with more confidence and less fear.

The charity has seen significant income growth over the past four years (income has doubled to almost £10 million), and we have ambitious plans to maintain this growth so we can significantly increase the number of Admiral Nurses, and the specialist support they provide.

Philanthropy fundraising will play a key part in this expansion and presents a huge opportunity for growth. The Head of Philanthropy & Partnerships joined Dementia UK in summer 2019 to bring together fundraising from corporate partners and charitable trusts, and to develop a philanthropy programme. The groundwork for this programme has now been done; we have a pool of warm prospects, an engaged events committee, and good connections to high net worth networks across the City and beyond. We now need an experienced Philanthropy Manager to build on and grow these foundations. There is a clear appetite for philanthropy fundraising across all levels of the charity, and the chosen candidate will have both support and independence to raise significant income through major gifts.

Our five-year organisational strategy launches in April 2020, giving us a clear, ambitious vision of the leading role Dementia UK will play in supporting families facing dementia. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone to really make their mark on a charity and make a real, tangible difference to the experiences of those living with dementia.
