Strength & Stem uses floristry to train and support women who have survived modern slavery and human trafficking, as they journey towards full independence and freedom. We believe in the power of flowers to unleash creativity, which in turn helps to build confidence and strengthen wellbeing.
We run eight-month long programmes which incorporate vocational floristry training, supplementary skills training, work experience, and mentorship. Overall, we aim to help our programme participants grow in confidence and self-esteem and to become better equipped to enter and maintain meaningful employment.
The mentoring programme is an essential part of achieving these outcomes. The purpose of this role is to support programme participants as they work towards their employment goals. Mentoring will take place over a period of six months, following the mentee’s successful completion of the Strength & Stem vocational floristry and supplementary skills training sessions.
Mentorship sessions will take place in person in London.
We expect mentors to meet with their mentees for 1-2 hours a month for 6 months duration from July – December 2024.
This is a voluntary role and will require mentors to undertake a DBS check.
This volunteer post is open to female applicants only as being female is deemed to be a genuine occupational requirement under Schedule 9, Paragraph 1 of the Equality Act 2010.

- Based in London or able to travel to London for in-person mentoring sessions
- Have employment or business experience to utilise. This should include (but is not limited to) experience in personal goal setting, navigating the UK job market, completing job applications, doing job interviews
- Understand the importance of self-management and resilience skills
- Have a kind, supportive and non-judgemental attitude, and approach
- Able to promote positive social connections and interaction and build harmony with others
- Passionate about supporting women from disadvantaged backgrounds
- Have a strong sense of professional boundaries

Liverpool Humanists bring non-religious people together to be happier and more fulfilled and to be a force for good in our community.
We are a Local Group of Humanists UK. All Humanists UK members and supporters in the local area are automatically part of the group.
Liverpool Humanists aim to provide a range of activities for non-religious living in Liverpool to meet, socialise, campaign, raise awareness of humanism, participate in local civic life and support each other. The Local Group represents Humanists UK and the local humanist community at public events and in public forums. Liverpool Humanists is led by a team of volunteers that organises events and activities throughout the year.
About the Role:
As Secretary, you will play a vital role in the effective functioning of the local humanist community
Your main responsibilities will be to:
● Organise committee meetings, record minutes, and support event planning.
● Assist in recruiting, managing, and inducting volunteers.
You may also be asked to:
● Aid the Coordinator in annual reporting
● Manage mailings and Local Group inquiries.
● Provide support to team members in event delivery.

New College Durham is looking for volunteers to join its Board of Governors and use their personal and professional knowledge and experience to shape the strategic direction of the College.
The Board is responsible for the success of the College. Its role is to establish a vision, mission and strategy, provide financial oversight, hold the College’s senior leaders to account for the quality of education and ensure risks are managed appropriately. As a Governor you will support and challenge our executive management team and help the Board make decisions that will impact on student achievement, their longer-term outcomes and the future direction and growth of the College. We want people who bring new ideas, strategic thinking, are willing to ask questions and speak their mind - we are ambitious, dynamic and forward focused and we hope you are too.
This voluntary role offers great opportunities for personal and professional development. We will work with you to align your expertise and interests with the Board’s needs. You will receive ongoing training, have access to a mentor and be reimbursed for expenses. You would be expected to attend six corporation meetings throughout the year, one or two committee meetings per term and the Annual Strategic Planning Day. We would also encourage you to get involved with College life by attending College events to meet students, staff and stakeholders such as award ceremonies, staff and student conferences, performances, exhibitions and stakeholder events.
You will be part of a thriving organisation with an excellent reputation and you will gain experience working alongside our Senior Leadership Team and Board members from a wide variety of backgrounds.
What are we looking for?

Commitment:
Estimated time needed is up to five hours per month.

Chairperson Role, Responsibilities and Attributes
The Chairperson leads the Board of Trustees and sets its agenda in consultation with the CEO. Their role is to enable Trustees to fulfil their responsibilities for overall governance, risk management and strategic direction. The Trustee Board is responsible for proactively engaging with and understanding Belong, its service users and the wider criminal justice landscape. Trustees must always uphold the best interests of Belong’s service users, ensuring that the charity achieves its charitable aims whilst abiding by charity law and other relevant regulations. The Chairperson supports and empowers the CEO to lead the organisation so that it achieves its vision, mission and aims, whilst remaining sustainable and ethical.
In supporting the trustee board and CEO, the Chairperson is responsible for:
- Acting as an ambassador and spokesperson for Belong when appropriate.
- Creating meaningful and productive working relationships with the CEO, senior leadership team and trustees.
- Providing empowering, supportive line management to the CEO.
- Chair and facilitate trustee board meetings effectively, ensuring that decisions are made fairly and in the best interests of Belong’s service users.
- Supporting the trustees to have a sound understanding and oversight of the organisations finances, including reviewing annual budgets and financial policies.
- Facilitating annual performance reviews for each trustee and for the CEO.
- Leading and developing the board of trustees and CEO including inductions, training and succession planning as appropriate.
- Supporting other trustees to arrange and effectively chair quarterly subcommittees on risk and resilience, finance and fundraising and communications.
