Homelessness Support Worker

Full time Post £24,000 pa working a 34 hour week

Job Title: Homelessness Support Worker

Location of Job: Based at Herring House Trust Hostel – Supported Accommodation

Working Hours: This post will entail working a rolling rota, which will involve some weekend, night work & bank holidays

                                  Rolling Shift Pattern:

  • · 1 x 12 hour day shift 8am to 8pm followed by
  • · 1 x 12 hour night shift – waking cover 8pm to 8am followed by
  • · 3 days off
  • · Repeat

Salary:                    £24,000 with enhanced pay when working a bank holiday shift.  3% pension contributions. 20 days holiday per year.

Training: A full training programme will be available to equip you with the skills for working in the supported  housing sector.

Additional: Meals available when working shifts.

We are looking for an enthusiastic Homelessness Support Worker to join our team.  You will support and encourage our residents at all stages of their journey, working with people living in our supported accommodation Hostel. You will provide support to each individual to manage their own well-being and to take steps out of homelessness.

This is an excellent opportunity for you to work in an accommodation-based service.  You will be a part of a small, supportive Team, where your contribution will be valued. You will develop your knowledge and skills and support people with a range of needs.

You will want to make a difference and you will have a flexible and creative approach to working.

The role will be working a rota inclusive of day shifts, night shifts & some weekends, including bank holidays.  You will work a rolling shift pattern of two shifts, followed by 3 days off. It is important to us that you have a good work & home-life balance, so the rota ensures there is ample time between shifts.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Scope of Work: This is a full-time position. This employee works to deliver a full programme of support to a caseload of clients throughout their homeless journey.  The post will work within our direct access supported accommodation Hostel.

Responsibilities:

To provide a seamless pathway of support for someone who is in emergency housing need and seeking accommodation at Herring House Trust Supported Accommodation Hostel.

Work with a caseload of clients from first accommodation within the Hostel with the aim of enabling them to progress through our accommodation schemes.

You will support the client through a stepped approach.  Each stage within the Trust offers accommodation for up to two years. You will support our Hostel residents being responsible for helping each person to reach a point where they are ready to move onto the next stage of accommodation.  You will make referrals to our Halfway House accommodation, where people will live independently with ongoing support. For some people they may require longer term support within our emergency Hostel accommodation, whilst others will work through all stages of our resettlement programme, more quickly. 

You will: -

Provide both emotional and practical support to residents housed in the Hostel.  Herring House Trust works to a strength-based approach, we support each person to find their own strengths and build on those strengths to move out of homelessness.

Undertake an assessment of the Hostel client to develop a package of support which best suits their needs.

Liaise with other specialist agencies and ensure a multi-disciplinary package of care is in place as required.

Monitor the residents general conduct and ensure the smooth running of the hostel.

Meet regularly with clients on your caseload to review support plans, provide general support, offer new opportunities and provide a safe space for them to explore new support networks.

Work with your clients to facilitate move on from the Hostel to the Halfway Houses, identify any gaps in the skills required for independent living and support the client to develop new skills in those areas.

Identify any problems the client may be experiencing and work with them to find appropriate solutions.

Develop a sound knowledge of a range of services available for people in the local area and support clients to take up new opportunities.

Participate in meetings as required and represent the Trust;

Carry out any other tasks related to the role, which may be determined by the Senior Management Team.
